my choice may be controversial but I Don't Wanna Go vs American
  6. although i'm not necessarily manifesting that particular genre, it's important to note that country / folk doesn't have to be all bare, twangy guitars and singing about ranches! just look at what lee hazlewood did, especially his work w/ nancy sinatra! i believe it's referred to as "cowboy psychedelia" and "saccharine underground". and his solo work is beautiful too i'd be more than happy with an album of more "produced" and out-there/psychedelic country influenced songs, along with a spattering of more classic country style songs - i mean, it is lana after all, and the collaborative work we've heard between her and nikki lane are very much in that classic vein. i also believe now that lana's lyricism is at a point where those more stripped back songs can stand on their own two feet because there'll be some amazing lyrics to carry them. for me, 'stripped back' is only a problem when 1) it's every single song on the album [just bc i can get bored] and 2) the lyrics and/or vocal performance offer very little of interest, so that it's just like listening to nothingness. but now lana's vocals are better than ever, as are her lyrics, so i'd be fine with a number of those stripped back songs. that being said idc if she does country or industrial swing or heavy metal jazz, i have so much faith after the perfection that was Ocean Blvd

    Gods & Monsters vs Kintsugi
  11. random list of moments from this album that i love: • when kintsugi starts playing and you hear that initial “there’s a certain point, the booooody can’t come back from…..” chills every single time • the sheer chaos of the interludes • the outro of grandfather • when candy necklace’s tempo picks up in its second chorus and goes a little jazzy • the added vocals during “down in florence alabaaaaaama” in paris texas • the bass intro of peppers !! so cool • additionally in peppers, when it breaks down into a surf rock style for like 10 seconds!!! soooooooo rad • “skippin rope in the bayou / slip softly into rain” from fishtail, just such a gorgeous lyric - oh and “wearing nothing but the summer bruises on my knees” UGH gorgeous • the random swooshing noise in fingertips that i assume is meant to obscure the word “mother” honestly, i just love this record so much

  15. poor little baby.... there's so much to be said for how she gained her infamy, so much to disagree with and so much discourse to be had, but i could never bring myself to hate any child - much less one that was clearly groomed and exploited for the financial gain of adults. this is so heartbreaking. i know there is controversy and mystery surrounding this news but i truly hope that - whatever comes out of any level of investigation - adults take this as a lesson that children need to be protected, looked after, embraced and never judged. if a child is acting strangely, question why; there are a surprising number of adults who believe that only applies to children who are acting extremely withdrawn or quiet, and not those on the other far end of the spectrum that are acting unusually boisterous or obnoxious. i'm sure the majority of us online know that Lil Tay's comically obnoxious nature was all a persona (propelled by the adults in her life for monetary purposes) but that also goes for "ordinary" children in real life too. it's a different scenario completely, but how many confused and stressed out children have we dismissed simply as nasty brats? how many children out there only know how to respond to discomfort by lashing out? how many children out there rely on arrogance and aggression because they believe it will protect them? in nine out of ten cases: an angry child is a hurt child. an overly attention-seeking child is a hurt child. an identity co-opting child is a hurt child. i cannot stress enough just how little children know and understand, how scary this world is for them, how they often can only react instead of cope. sorry, i've gone off on a total tangent there but this story just triggered some thoughts and feelings i have and i reeeeeally hope that it triggers those parental/protective emotions in other grown-ups too bc this poor little girl never even had the chance to be herself or live her own life before she lost it. rest in peace <333

  23. woke up at 5am today for no reason other than the sun coming thru the blinds, i was exhausted but i couldn’t get back to sleep so i just got up and started cleaning and prepping breakfast for my nephew; i opened the back door to hear the birds and let some fresh air in and i put on this album from start to finish and wow…. i’ve said it so many times but this is SUCH a perfect “morning album” for me. i always feel i enjoy it the most when it’s early - those opening strings on the title track just feel like dawn - and i’m currently on HIAB and it’s crazy because at this point i just feel totally absorbed in NFR’s whole world, yknow? and when it’s over i’m probably gonna go from start to finish again. i’ve had a lot of special moments like this with NFR, i’m so grateful for this record
