She definitely sounded a little uncertain about it in multiple parts of her Mojo interview. “She says she finds listening to the new album ‘a fight’, conceding that she’s offering a pre-emptive critique. ‘It wasn’t so much that I though the songs fantastically fit together with like seamless, sun kissed production -- but, you know, there’s a life lived there.” Also the way she spoke about her vocals in White Dress. But, as the magazine stated right after, and Lana agreed with, the ‘not great’ vocals on the chorus absolutely fit the tone and message of the song. It just seems she’s nervous about the content of the record, and the way it will be received after the widespread success and ease of Norman. It’s her easiest album to get into, and provided a taste of that success and praise she didn’t get before. Though, she said in the interview that she felt people were into the record, not necessarily into her as an artist. The Mojo article gives great insight to the assumed nervousness/paranoia she has after years of being discredited and mocked publicly. Understanding how that’s affected her self-perception (idk if it has, but I think it would) and her art is important to understanding her as an artist and human. I do hope that one day she won’t feel like she has to bring it up during interviews, because to some extent it keeps it alive and fresh into each era, among other things. Based on what we know and what the interviews show us, Chemtrails is going to be an emotional stunner, raw and unexpected, the same way UV was after BTD. Seriously cannot wait!! I’m not mad about Weyes Blood closing out the album, though I think it’s an interesting choice to have anyone but Lana herself do so. Titanic Rising is one of my favorite albums, so there’s some bias for sure. Love Natalie’s voice, and appreciate that she’s friends with Lana. They’re quite different musically, but both offer depth in storytelling and evoke strong emotion. Maybe it will make sense. Our girl didn’t want to center herself (except with Neil, but even then her eyes downward) on the album cover/PD, so maybe not being focus on the album art/the last to sing presents a loose theme. Probably not lol, but I’m really curious if this is something Lana put thought into, or just seemed right when recording.

I sincerely hope you’re correct! A project in the vein of Big Thief, or Adrianne’s abysskiss would be incredible. Reading that review has me even more excited! Each album has been significantly different from the last, and one called Chemtrails carries a higher expectation of depth and interest behind it, and it really seems she’s going to deliver!! The shorter track list saddens me a bit (RIP for now Dealer), but I trust that it’s because each song present represents the vision succinctly. No skips, the album and story are meant to be consumed in full. Even with LMLYLAW, while it’s not my favorite song from her, it’s grown on me a lot, and it’ll serve as a gorgeous, glimmering break from the darkness/the deepness of Chemtrails

I isolate as well! Give myself a chance to feel completely submerged and succumb to the inevitable emotional breakdown that will come post-listen. After the first listen I’ll smoke a joint or two, and go into the experience again. Seriously cannot wait!

The windbreakers are cute (wish they weren’t cropped), but I can’t help but think that’s what the black sweatshirt should have looked like!! Hope there’s more on the way
