  1. The real question is if the album is called ROCK CANDY ? SWEET or ? ROCK CANDY SWEET ?
  2. This is a great album. Lana produces amazing, gorgeous records. I know this is a Lana forum so it's taken for granted that everyone is a fan, but I really just have to hand it to the woman for her amazing discography ... and it seems she has no plans to slow down.
  3. I definitely believe this is her next album, but the timeline is def fishy haha. I'm going to assume it'll come out in December, since it takes 6 months to press enough vinyls for a day-in-date release — that's still 2 records in one calendar year. Impressive.
  4. This is maybe the worst assessment I've ever read of Born to Die. What the f is he talking about? B2D is a masterpiece of submission and mania, not "speaking truth to masculine power". Massive eye-roll.
  5. This Entertainment Weekly review isn't nearly as positive as I am about the album, but I think it's a very good review, and actually about the music: https://ew.com/music/music-reviews/lana-del-rey-chemtrails-over-the-country-club-review/
  6. In 2011 ?, she ? emerged ? as an aesthetic ✨? howitzer ?, exploding ?? a broad ?? but ? deeply ? personal ? index ☝ of iconography ? into her ?? own nation ?? of death-driven ☠️? kitsch. It was Xanadu ?, built ?‍♀️ from a blissful, degenerate ?, high-femme ?‍♀️ sort ? of jingoism. ???
  7. I see the album was delayed until after tax refunds and stimulus checks for a reason...
  8. Friendly reminder that the things that come from airplanes are Contrails. Chemtrails only exist in fiction.
  9. I finally figured out my own interpretation of the title song. I think the verses and the chorus are describing different time periods — the chorus describes the past, her childhood, and a desire to escape “normality”. The verses are addressed to a lover, one in the present with whom she has learned to embrace the beauty of the ordinary. The themes of lazily watching the apocalypse from “The greatest” are continued. The climax of the song comes as the chorus is repeated a final time, this time with an expression of longing for a restoration of the world she once escaped from (“I want only Like when we were kids under chemtrails and country clubs”). When the song first premiered, I was taken aback because the title is so aggressive that I was expecting something more brash and satirical, but I think the resulting song is more subtle and thoughtful. Chemtrails [metaphorically] are a silent killer, and Lana is suggesting that the only way to live in a world of Kafkaesque terror is to settle into the deep normality. Chemtrails are suburbia, native genocide, police, everything silent and threatening about America. But the cancerous sun is still beautiful, and since we’re stuck under the chemtrails in the meantime… we can contemplate God.
  10. Tammy Wynette had five husbands, many of whom were physically abusive to her. She had serious health problems her entire life including a painkiller addiction. She wrote the song "Stand by Your Man" that definitely has the opposite message as and is sadly ironic because of how abusive Wynette's husbands were. She died at 55.
  11. Hi all, I'm new. I joined this board because I re-discovered this video of Lana and my dormant obsession has run wild again. Such an intense, beautiful performance of a terrific song, and a great band.
  12. Two official sources have now included A.K.A. in their rankings of Lana's albums. That, and the Pawn Shop Blues music video ... I'm not saying anything specific but at least she's acknowledging it as a part of her discography.
  13. tbh I think Lana sings Born to Die songs still because they are her biggest hits. If you go to see most artists live, they will play their biggest hits as crowd-pleasers.
  14. I've recently become obsessed with the early Born to Die era performances, especially how jazzy they sound in comparison to the studio/demo versions. In particular, her first live performance of Off to the Races belongs in a museum it's so good.
