i think Fingertips is kind of heart of the album. mentioning many times, speaking about it like it is game-changer. it's important to album for sure and having impact to understand about what album is, something like summary.

Given how much she seemingly loves this song, as well as the fact that she also mentioned it as the "first" song of the album last May, I wonder why it didn't get the track #1 treatment. It really feels like it might be the lyrical highlight of her entire career.

Anyway, it's also quite interesting that she hasn't talked about The Grants at all. Based on what she said about the theme of the album being her family origins, I highly doubt that it's going to be Sweet Carolina redux. In a way, The Grants, Kintsugi, Fingertips, and Grandfather please stand on the shoulders of my father while he's deep-sea fishing might be parts of an unofficial thematic tetralogy.

  2. A&W was added on the Pitchfork Selects playlist this morning, joining Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, Text Book, Black Bathing Suit, and Sweet Carolina as the only Lana tracks to make the cut (the playlist was first created in March 2020). It’s also the fifth Lana song to get the Best New Track seal of approval along with Video Games, Love, Venice Bitch, and The greatest. Ocean Blvd is coming for NFR’s wig. :sass::ma:

    @Fingertips @GeminiLanaFan You’re so fast, lol!

  4. The drop in streams isn’t worrisome. A&W’s unfiltered streams (1,761,045) are stronger than the title track’s filtered streams (1,718,111) on Day 3, and the title track was actually added on multiple playlists that day (it was a Friday). For a 7 minute track with zero promo, it’s been performing remarkably well so far. Hopefully it’ll stabilise!
Streams/sales are most definitely not reflective of a song’s quality, lol, but it’ll be cool if this turns out to be a hit.

Now knowing how the NFR sample is on A&W is, I’m SO curious how the VB sample will be on Taco Truck :cryney2: I’m guessing similar to how it was on A&W but maybe more in your face/frequent, which I’m perfectly fine with :oprah4: I’m so excited omg

Yeah, Jack posted on IG that Venice Bitch will pop its little head somewhere on the album, so I suppose the sample will be more present albeit not *that* prominent. Anyway, they did a wonderful job on A&W and I seriously cannot wait to hear Taco Truck. Kintsugi was very high on it! :trisha:

This was exciting to read. I must've missed when BoZ commented on the interludes, all I heard was something about them (or at least one of them) being a 5 minute low quality phone recording of a pastor yelling while muffled giggles can be heard over the top. I mean this sounds cool for an interlude but... 4.5minutes worth??? That's longer than most pop songs. Didn't think there was any instrumentation on it but glad to hear I'm wrong

Yeah, the Judah Smith Interlude’s instrumentation is very unsettling and eerie according to BOZ. I’m actually very excited about it. It feels like the natural continuation of the darkness of A&W. He loves the Jon Batiste Interlude. Apparently it’s very wild and heavy on electric guitars! Both interludes will be divisive - Kintsugi dislikes them, lol! -, but I’m glad she’s not playing it safe. What intrigues me the most is that both insiders told us that the album is

sonically adventurous and unexpected and that there will be something for everyone. The track rankings will be all over the place, but it’ll be the sign of a great diverse album.

so far this album is among her best work and we've only got two songs, I'm lowkey nervous it's not going to be able to remain this level of quality for 16 tracks. (looking at you 5minute spoken word preacher "interludes")

     judging-really.gif

Given that both insiders told us that the second half of the album is stronger than the first one and yet we’ve already been gagged by tracks 2 and 4, I think that we’re going to get a truly great record. :true:

So many tracks have been highlighted by them: The Grants (full and gorgeous), Candy Necklace (massive), Kintsugi (best song of all-time according to our favourite insider), Fingertips (stunner), Paris, Texas (delicate highlight), Grandfather (BOZ’s favourite), Let The Light In (singled out by both insiders), Fishtail (the potential fan favourite of the album), Peppers (a slutty vibey bop apparently), Taco Truck (an outro for the books). Even Sweet is praised for its beautiful strings, Kintsugi thinks that Margaret is actually great, and BOZ adores the instrumentation on both interludes. :crying:

This album is shaping up to be one of the most important works in Lana’s career.

  8. Very strong debut on Spotify:

1st Day - Partial (only 9 hours of tracking)

    🌍 WW: #139 (NEW) — 1,251,647 (filtered)
    🇺🇸 US: #93 (NEW) — 410,167 (filtered)
    🇬🇧 UK: #89 (NEW) — 92,349 (filtered)

The title track got 1,355,631 filtered streams on its first day (partial), so the gap between the two tracks consists of 100,000 streams. For a surprise drop of a 7-minute album track with zero playlisting on a Tuesday, this is quite impressive. Hopefully it’ll have a healthy run and - why not? - perform even better (the TikTok stans have to make it go viral though!) in the upcoming days/weeks until the album release date. Lana deserves this. :true:

  9. Crude Drawing of an Angel is my favourite track by far. Absolutely transcendent. I also really love Pretty in Possible, Butterfly Net, Blood and Butter, and Hopedrunk Everasking. Billions has aged beautifully and is such an amazing - and fitting! - closer. I’m less keen on the rest of the singles which all have their strong moments, but mostly feel ‘slight’ compared to the rest of the album (Bunny Is A Rider is very cool though) . I also love Dido on Fly on Me (Grimes almost ruins the song, lol).

  10. I’m so excited about Taco Truck x VB. The way she revisited, payed tribute and even sampled older songs/sounds in A&W is absolutely astonishing. Kintsugi saying that Taco Truck’s outro is one for the books makes me even more impatient. And Jack teased it on his IG story today, as well! I’m pretty sure it’ll be a glorious ending to a sublime album.

I’m also very curious about the interludes which are supposed to be psychotic and creepy. I wonder if Candy Necklace is going to take us by surprise, too. I remember BOZ saying that all the long tracks on the album have unusual/unconventional structure and this track has an insane amount of instruments on it. And Kintsugi described it as « massive ». :crying:

also the mind behind beautiful, Arcadia, and violets for roses......

BOZ praised The Grants, Fingertips, and Let The Light In, and Kintsugi told us that the sequence between track 8 and track 16 (which includes Fingertips and Let The Light in) is the best section of the album. Not to mention that BOZ also mentioned how beautiful the strings on Sweet are. So I’m not worried about Drew’s work this time around. BOZ hated Drew’s production on BB btw, lol.
