  1. PLUTO is one of my favorite tracks on this whole album. I'm shocked to see some of y'all trashing it, and calling Powder the best song too?? Anyway.. These deluxe tracks aren't what I expected but I'm having a good time with them. Really just wish Garden or N&T had made the cut somehow.
  2. I meant for the videos! I think K-12 shows that she lacks what it takes to make a successful film, because she clearly couldn't decide whether she wanted to make a feature-length music video or an actual movie where the plot was the focus. It was pretty and all, but that's about it.
  3. Also, I know this is just how music works now, but does anyone else get tired of all the "stream the album for music videos! Stream the album for the deluxe! Stream for a gold star sticker! Streamstreamstream!" everywhere? Usually for shit they were going to release anyway, lol. In her case it might actually make a difference though, considering she said Atlantic hasn't given her the money for the movie yet. She should really just cut her losses and scrap it for high budget music videos though, because look at how good Cry Baby was as a visual album. Now imagine if that had gotten the $6M instead of K-12!
  4. I'm excited and all, but please tell me it's not actually called "Milk of the Sirens" now, lol. "Leche" is perfect if it has to be a part of the title at all. I think it just reminds me of all the weirdly placed milk references throughout her discog though, and other weird references to food/body parts/etc. which have always been hugely hit or miss for me.
  5. If she was going to keep Tunnel Vision on the album, I really wish she would've just used the original instrumental. This new version is neutered and sounds like it was given a frontal lobotomy.
  6. Aside from her photography and visuals, I'm starting to feel like I like the idea of Melanie Martinez more than I actually like Melanie Martinez.
  7. So the album is okay(not great, not terrible), but it's not exactly what I think any of us expected after the wait and hearing such top tier leaks. Tracklist aside, the biggest issue that I have is the mixing. Even in the HQ it's messy in a lot of really noticeable places, and a lot of the vocals are completely cut off or are muffled under the instrumentals. I think if she had at least kept the ambient sounds from the leaks instead of these new transitions, the album would've been a lot more pleasing. I just feel confused at how some of these sound more like demos than the actual demos we heard in 2021.
  8. I really do think that Needle & Thread is her best, most widely relatable song, and it has such a great instrumental all the way through. The lyrics are also some of her best by far. It would've made a perfect closing track, and honestly, I'll be really confused if she never does anything with it.
  9. I need to say sorry, That's the only thing you say when you lose someone I used to say I'm sorry, For all of the stupid shit you've done
  10. This thread is so frightening and entertaining all at once, lmao
  11. I'm pretty sick of the cursive singing baby voice too, but clearly that's still what she wants to do or she would've dropped it with all the other changes she's made to her sound.
  12. I swear to god y'all's opinions change daily like the fucking tides
  13. The HQ hasn't even come out yet, let's all chill. K-12 may have been CoHeSiVe and all, but I hardly liked a single song on the whole album after not even 2 weeks of it being out, and the extreme kidcore stuff was not it for me. It felt like a parody of Cry Baby. Even the movie was visually stunning, but so underbaked. I don't expect PORTALS to be perfect by any means, but I can already see that it's going to be objectively more enjoyable for most listeners than K-12.
  14. I mean, DEATH has some iffy pieces, I'll give it that. But you really can't say these singles have been objectively bad, or worse than any of her more criticized music(K-12 mainly). VOID is especially good for what she's been doing for the past 5+ years, and I'm happy to see her branching out and taking steps towards a more personal sound. Criticism is fine, but we have to remember this is for her, not us.
  15. THESE GAYS, THEY'RE TRYING TO MURDER ME!! Lol. Anyway, VOID was a solid 7/10 for me. I like some parts of the live better, but they're both really good and are giving me a lot of hope for this era. Been craving something different from her for a long time now. Just wish it would've had it's own special cover, and maybe an extra verse or bridge. Then this would've been at least an 8/10.
  16. I agree but I think using the same picture is an attempt to be artsy about the whole "start in the womb end in the tomb" thing.
  17. Love her and all but Melanie can sometimes be the queen of "that one lyric that ruined the whole song for you", lol. The last few days before a highly anticipated release are the worst. It makes me feel all crazy when I usually couldn't care less about having to wait! So looking forward to the HQ, even if it's not exactly what we hoped for when we heard the OG songs.
  18. I'm sorry but this is what happens when you make K-12
  19. It's honestly fucking hilarious(and kind of bold) to make the song that you know is going to be eaten up by the TikTok kids a song about addiction to social media. I approve.
  20. As someone who's been a fan of Björk for longer than Melanie has been making music, I can promise you there's a million references to Björk in most of her projects. She even mimics Björk's throaty yell-singing technique for certain songs. No one wants to talk about that though, because they either get pissed and call Melanie an outright copycat, or get pissed because they don't believe the references are there at all(I.E. all the people trying to say this era is nothing like Björk when there's clear inspiration everywhere) and think you're trying to shit on Melanie's creativity, lol.
  21. Uh, yeah.. After watching that a second time I'm feeling gaslit by all of the people saying this is such a great video, lol. Considering this is the first video since the Bakery, first major video since Cry Baby and the debut video for Portals, I expected her to have saved a much bigger budget. This CGI looked muddy, y'all. A lot of it was just goofy, too. That last shot of her popping out of the dirt and mole digging away from the grave? Omfg. The opening shot of the dirt pulling away from her clearly(poorly) CGI'd face? So bad. Those 2000s music video close ups of her making faces into the camera? Not it. I could go on but I don't see the point. Like.. I don't know what I was expecting, but after all the waiting and all the hype we've been riding on, this wasn't it.
  22. Also, I know the Björk Vulnicura vaginal chest wound and Oliver Tree references are important and symbolic and all, but I really would've rather seen her "dead body" in a better costume. Remember this design for the Bakery that she wasn't able to use, with the gelled hair swirled and laid flat onto her skin going down her arms? She would've looked amazing laying there styled like that, with candles all around her, and flowers covering parts of her body. https://i.postimg.cc/yNGDcN8R/frzo7ietjdr51.png
  23. I just expected so much more emotional heaviness, and some scenery closer to the single cover, but the majority of the video was dancing shots and her trying to get out of the grave. It didn't really go anywhere for me. What honestly put me off the most was the poorly CGI'd dead Melanie, poorly CGI'd umbilical cord tail Melanie, all of the Mad Hatter dancing, close-ups of her making faces at the camera, and the hoop which I feel would've made more sense being saved for another video.
