  1. I came online as a secret Arianator (I have to hide it all from my friends and family; they will abandon me and I will be disinherited from millions) really only in the last couple of years, so it's exciting to like, actually be paying attention to the rollout and the drama and the gossip in real time.

I was gonna say - I've heard of producers and folks in certain areas of A/V using older versions of software because of plugin compatibility, or they are "stuck" on a particular version of software due to it being a really reliable and "stable" version, and if they'd upgrade there's risk of bugs or known compatibility issues with their hardware or other tools/plugins. Sometimes the stuff they are using is air-gapped and not connected to anything online for security reasons, so things are outdated, or some folks just don't want to shell out the money for new software or new licenses, or they used a friend's home studio that wasn't entirely up to date, etc. etc. Plenty of reasons. The version definitely sets a line in the sand that says "this totally wasn't exported/created BEFORE this minimum date". I think the version of the software taken with an export date is really the key. That being said, I also wouldn't put it past people to fuck around. People upload shit all over the internet and re-encode it to lower quality, tag the fucking hell out of it, etc. etc. I wouldn't put it past people to edit metadata to fuck around with people either. Idk. Someone with more knowledge and insight feel free to correct me.
  6. Lauryn Hill realness. Dropped an album and then followed up with everything but more music.

Just curious - is that *always* a guarantee though? Couldn't some people and producers be using old versions (I know I myself am using a 5 year old copy of Ableton)? Is there an export date hidden in the metadata that might be more reliable?

Correct. And if we really wanna dig and get referential, there's plenty of songs I can scrape up from the 90s and 2000's where it's really just 1 lyric, 1 chorus, maybe a little ad-lib vocal moment during a dance break, repeat 2x, end. Quite a few of those songs in the 2-minute range as well. Yeah. I *would* like there to be some fully fleshed out "Charli" material on the album, but if she's sticking to her inspiration, it's gonna be short and repetitive, which I'm fine with. It's just a mindset thing, which really shouldn't be anything new for us. We have emotional Charli, and we have throwaway pop-trash Charli. We're just used to having both on the same record, and this time it may not be the case.

We're sorry for the smell; there was blood on the seats after this woman fell from the ceiling of the plan and was leaping all over the place, we had to sterilize the interior. Oh your bags? We're not responsible for any dirt or fluids found on your baggage; damage may occur during transit and we can't be held responsible for that.

I think I was wanting more of the "darker" sound from those projects at the time and then Sucker came along and it was just so BRIGHT and exuberant comparatively. Now I look back and honestly I have no shade for Sucker. 2014-2015 was around the time my music tastes really EXPLODED, so it took a moment before I fully embraced her. Back in the 90s I was very clapped to top-level Pop names (Mariah, Madonna) and a lot of euro hits that made it across the Atlantic and got US airplay. Every so often something on MTV would perk my ears and I'd throw it into the pile, but on the whole I was pretty rigid on who and what I'd be interested in. Then in the 2000s I lurched forward a LOT and opened up to more rock, alternative, r&b, techno, trance; I was much more open to a lot of pop music from all areas, but in general I was still "silo"ing artists - if I heard an artist or a band I liked, I would fall in love with them, at that specific point in time. If they changed up their sound or their image, I would throw them in the discard pile and look for a sonic replacement. But around the early 20-teens I started to loosen up a lot more and start rolling with artists' changes, and I started to open up and embrace a lot more smaller artists, indie artists, and flex a lot more whenever people shifted their sound. I think I'd have dipped hard on Charli if I wasn't there yet by the time Sucker popped. Same for Marina, actually. I was (and still am) a die hard EH puritan; Froot gave me whiplash worse than Sucker did, but eventually I adjusted to the temperature of the water.

When Sucker dropped I was confused because it was such a different direction from TR. I was like "....what is this sellout shit???" because I was ADDICTED (and low-key still am) to Nuclear Seasons, Cloud Aura, You, Stay Away.... and then Sucker comes in and I was just "......", Other Angels I knew at the time felt the same. Fancy dropped and we thought it was a fun little feature to get Charli some attention, but then Sucker came after and it was like "wait hold on not this." And then like after a month it was (at least for me) "....you know, it's not that bad." I wasn't too deep into 'the culture' back then, but I had heard of folks losing their shit. Now she's grown on me. Boom Clap, Doing It, Famous, Caught in the Middle... all good.

Will this thread even be here by then, or will the Angels have torn each other up over sad green foldy cardboard cover and "Von Deuce TIkTok Teasing ASMR Edging Video"? Stay tuned, next time on Dragonball Z.
