I mean, when one slut leaves a power vacuum, another slut must step up to fill it.... Either that or it's a zombie meaning dead tracks are coming back to life.

Honestly with some of these files leaking (not just Miss Xbox) and folks saying "they are the OG!" when the analysis shows that SHARP line of demarcation @ 15khz - I wonder if folks have gotten wise to 'leak culture' and export in diminished quality just to take a stab at it. I mean of course there's some hoarders as well who most likely re-encode at less just to get their rocks off, but in general...

He is, and like I mentioned in my comment it kinda just goes full circle because ToF sourced his stylings in a subversive nature from police and military garb. I did do a little looking around after my post earlier though and I have a question mark on JW for a sweater from his collection that's a rather distinct shade of brown, with a police/military man printed right on it. It's....a choice, for sure. In the grand scheme of things I'd rather err on the side of cautious appreciation. I'm not calling for cancelling anyone, but at the same time, fashion has a history of flying too close to the sun, and I think it bears merit to point it out sometimes. It's def not a LB conversation, but it's a whole debacle involving some prominent people in that community, and it's spurred conversations on what sort of attire and stylings are acceptable in the vein of fetishwear/Tom of Finland style, and where the line is on when it crosses over into 'dangerous resemblance' territory. It's why I personally looked at the JW campaign and had an eyebrow raise up, since it's in my current sphere of scrutiny. That being said, fashion constantly recycles and redefines and repurposes silhouettes, shapes, materials, stylings - the meanings and history behind them often get mulched a bit whenever new subcultures and age groups pick it up.

I'm getting flashbacks to literally every article talking about how much money (6 mil!!!!!!!! omg 6 milll!!! DAE 6 MILL????) was spent on the K-12 flop film. Like is she fishing for a round two there? Cause I'll hatewatch if it happens.

So this debate is actually going on rn on kink twitter b/c some prominent porn people got outed for doing literal N*zi fetish play (symbols and armbands and all), but I digress.... It's hard, because 1940s Germany didn't and doesn't have a historical monopoly on trench coats, leather, or muir caps, but then you have photos like this, and the iconography and association is very hard to ignore - they definitely tainted it. It's doubly difficult because a lot of fashion brands and designers have their roots in and around that time period (Hugo Boss literally did design the outfits, Coco Chanel was a sympathizer....), so when those brands put out shit that calls back to anything around that era, it's....icky. JW Anderson is a UK brand though, headed by an Irishman, and prior to starting the brand he worked for Loewe (Spanish house) - so it's not like it's a look coming from a person or place with direct historical ties to the era that I can see. Leather and muircaps are also associated with a lot of fetish stylings (Tom of Finland stands out), which came from reclamation and subversion of the aforementioned and was done by folks in an attempt to take the iconography and stylings of oppressors and make it their own. Those bits sort of pull me out and away a bit from criticizing that look harshly as squarely penning it as *that*.

Okay glad I'm not the only one who had that thought in the back of their head on that promo photo. (Currently sensitized to the topic due to other drama happening on Twitter unrelated to pop-dom) That being said, the shoot is a (nervous) serve.

I won't be reading all of that, sorry. 2 sentences is already 2 much. /s

You don't need teeth to type sis. Were you out here slapping dentures on the keyboard tf. Ya I'm surprised most people don't know to just go with a VPN for it. (Honestly should be on anything/everything you're downloading that's illicit/unofficial/unreleased etc, but that's just me b/c ~~cautious)

No, the drama would have been avoided if it was leaked though. I'm sure of it.
-
I typed releasing I s2g but that autocorrect just did what it wanted. Anyway happy brain melt Wednesday
-
none of this drama would've happened if Charli had beat label execs into released XCX World anyway with a deluxe rollout and also someone leaked Spring Breakers in lossless

I think the caveat here is that sometimes things DON'T get worked out in private, and that going public with it is essentially another tool in their arsenal. Going "you haven't been budging on this issue for awhile now, so we'll see what happens when I do this", and gambling that the weight of public opinion will be enough to get something moving - that's an option that they have.

Never had friendster. Xanga was hardly used, but I did have it.

For starters, this is a Grimes thread, so we really shouldn't be pulling focus off her, and second, I just can't fucking wait for some TikTok-brained zoomer to hit me with the "oMg wHaT iS tHiS eSsAy tHiNgs lOngEr tHaN 4 SeNtEnCeS aRe oVeRwHeLmInG", but: The entire 'Pedo Guy' controversy and his weird doubling down on the thing He could have just said "My bad", deleted the tweet, and moved on. Instead we hired PIs and had whole lawsuits over it. Weird. The COVID vaccine denials and off-the-cuff remarks about COVID during the early phases of the pandemic Spreading conspiracy theories and leaning into so much right-wing rhetoric. The transphobic comments around gender/pronouns Self explanatory, and this rubs off on Grimes because she is/was very popular within queer subcultures from what I can tell??? The aggressive running of Tesla that's led to a lot of lawsuits around worker safety and harassment, as well endorsing/pushing for union busting SO many reports of treating staff like trash, absolutely insane expectations of people who work close/near him to be available 24/7/365 Fostering a company culture that let racial and sexist harassment go on unchecked in his factories The tweeting about his business that have ramifications on stock prices and run against SEC regulations and rules There's certain kinds of information that you have to run past exec boards and prepare formal information releases for; you have a fiduciary duty to uphold in doing so. I know; I work for a company and am in a position where this kind of information crosses my desk. Also, LMAO-plug for the Azealia Banks live tweeting Elon losing his shit after tweeting about taking Tesla private or w/e and being there while Grimes was having to calm him down cause he was apparently high AF when he did it Literally *everything* he's done at Twitter has been HIGHLY unpopular Senior staff and engineers fired or laid off; so many reports of stalling to pay out benefits and severance The changes he directly pushed for and wanted implemented have lead to a rise in hate speech across all fronts on Twitter; it's also irreparably damaged Twitter's reputation as a reliable outlet in many cases as a platform where quick and breaking news could be shared by a variety of government and commercial entities He's had a history of 'questionable' decision making when working with groups of people/teamwork Literally was ousted from CEO of PayPal via a vote of no-confidence by board members after none of them agreed with him or the direction he was pushing A lot of his joke tweets and shitposts dances on lines that point to right-wing beliefs and humor It endorses the content and legitimizes several harmful and hateful movements down the line Has he done good? Absolutely. When I think of electric cars and pushing technical advancement forward, I don't think of Prius (barf, boo hiss lame ass eco shitboxes), I think of Tesla. He shifted the market with the concept of what electric vehicles could and should be, and now, years later, other brands and manufacturers are finally catching up. Starlink is absolutely wild. Satellite internet has been VIOLENTLY STAGNANT for DECADES; folks in rural areas now have ACTUAL competition with ACTUALLY USABLE INTERNET SPEEDS. SpaceX getting them into space is another bridge of success there - I'm a big believer in humanity going as far as it can do, and pushing for as much as it can push, and a non-government entity working in the market sector of "space freight" is absolutely needed in order to lay down the building blocks for bigger things to come, for both science and knowledge, as well as commercial pursuits, as well as humankind evolution and expansion. But all that being said, to me, at best, he's a rich idiot who just doesn't play well with others and his financial privilege has insulated him from tangible and real consequences that would otherwise change how someone perceives and handles things. At worst, he's a deeply insecure and highly defensive person who thinks rules and regulations and consequences are for other people and that he should be immune to all of it because of his "ideas" for the future. Like it's giving rich deluded billionaire who has lost touch with the common people and lacks any sort of empathy drive. Him and Grimes getting together was ~~quirky at first, but looking at who he is as a person and what he's done over the years, it's so strange, given that she was considered sort of an alt-left creative pro-feminist kind of icon and he's.....absolutely not that.

Grimes? Agree. Elon? Disagree. His intentions may not be malevolent, but the consequences of them are showing a consistent pattern of negative outcome. At some point people need to stop getting free passes for it.
