i get the scarface reference and yeah like i'm not trying to start an argument by saying lana is better than lorde, but like every single one of lana's songs is more developed lyrically than anything lorde has. lorde does not have genuinely poetic intentions, and lana does. my focus on everything is the poetry, and sometimes the production but not really. their melodies and harmonies are equal but the production on born to die is what makes the album. the production on pure heroine is solely pop genius, but like so what. that doesn't make lorde talented. it makes her producers talented. lana is a genius. lorde is 16. they're both artists, but unfortunately lorde is revealing herself to the world before she has bloomed artistically. lana is a queen. lorde is 16.

ugh um the album's not that good. tennis court is so fun, royals is really smart and cool, and buzzcut season is really smooth, but other than that it's kind of just like... ok lorde we get it you're only 16 and you're a weird internet girl like what insight do you have actually have. compared to like... literally anything by lana she's just not good. like just studio version of diet mtn dew >> anything by lorde.

I don't know if it really changes what I take from the song. I think any Elvis song would have the same effect.

i can say from experience that when you are sitting next to a man you may possibly love while he just plays video games and you just sit there and think fuck, this is how she felt when she wrote the song, the song really makes a lot more sense. it's about helplessness and finding freedom in simplicity and humility. it's also beautiful poetry. the combination of images is unique and stirring.

Lana Del Rey Officially Announces TROPICO, "Coming to a City Near You"

i know it was most likely a mistake, but i like that idea of making gods and monsters possessive. the idea of god and monsters owning something gives them a stronger sense of power, which, when applied to the song itself, creates a totally different dynamic. it's like a lyrical remix in a way. sorry i'm weird. -
i think this song is beautiful. it's similar to black beauty, but it's more poetic than descriptive. i think the idea behind the song is that she is relating the deterioration of her life and her lover's life to the deterioration of beaches on the east coast. these places were once full of such joy and youth and a type of ignorant innocence, and now they are barren and trashed and spoiled. the image of "neon palm sway" is incredibly genius to me. very sad. and very powerful for an a cappella song! definitely one of my absolute favorites. it's very brave and very sweet (like leonard cohen's description of janis joplin in chelsea hotel no. 2).

i love it too!! i think it's her song that's most directly based on (the novel) lolita. it really tells a story well and the melody is so fresh. and the line "july to july" is genius!

i didn't know that but it really gives the song more breadth. knowing that she's probably talking about a guy who's either addicted to meth or recovering from it gives the song more purpose and it's even more heart-breaking.

sorry, my bad!

uh no it's definitely alive. why would "a lie" make sense? they're not trying to prove their true love to anyone. they're trying to hide their love. a fear of their love not being alive is a beautiful lyric, whereas the fear of their love being a lie, given the them of the song, would be stupid. just think about it...

"Summertime Sadness" - Next Single in the US, July 2nd
FIREANDWATER replied to Kimi Rose's topic in New Releases
uh why does it even matter if people play the remix and then other people "don't" become fans, or "don't" really listen to the lyrics. so what. her remixes are amazing to begin with because they show that people who make music in a different way than she does are inspired by her music, and honestly who cares about "fans" or "being popular" or "other people really appreciating her lyrics." just appreciate it yourself and don't worry about other people. because why else are you listening to her music? it's not disrespectful- it's just commercial fun.
