Rank Born to Die: The Paradise Edition Songs from Best to Worst
Rosalito replied to joshuasean2900's topic in Lana Thoughts
National Anthem Cola Summertime Sadness Without You Gods & Monsters Blue Jeans American Million Dollar Man Radio Diet Mountain Dew Bel Air Blue Velvet Burning Desire Off to the Races Lucky Ones Born to Die Carmen Video Games Ride Dark Paradise Body Electric Yayo This Is What Makes Us Girls Lolita I'm more into her lighthearted stuff currently since Ultraviolence and Honeymoon were both very very slow and serious. I hope her next record is more "warm" and tropical sonically. I need a new summer album for next year...Honeymoon really wasn't my cup of tea at all. -

The song is awful. It's hype will fade away just like FMWUTTT's hype did.

Marina's tour/set list is an absolute mess but this is kinda cute.

I really like the "dark blue" title, but I felt it didn'tsound ~lipster~ enough, so I used this beautiful shade of blue as the title. I tried to be as realistic as possible... Indigo Tour 1. Freak 2. Cola / Art Deco (played interchangeably on different dates) 3. West Coast 4. Religion 5. Ultraviolence 6. Blue Jeans 7. Music to Watch Boys to 8. Born to Die 9. Honeymoon 10. Video Games 11. Burnt Norton (Interlude) 12. Shades of Cool 13. Terrence Loves You 14. Summertime Sadness (possibly switched with Black Beauty if Lana is taking fan requests) 15. Salvatore / Swan Song (played interchangeably on different dates) 16. High By the Beach 17. Cruel World 18. God Knows I Tried 19. Ride 20. Brooklyn Baby (Extended Version) Okay, so here's my little concept: 1. ACT = Past Lana reflects on her youth and her past love affairs. There's a sort of religious theme going on from Religion - Born to Die. The original Ultraviolence video was going to be inspired by the Jonestown Massacre with Lana falling in love with her 'cult leader'. I think that sense of 'worshipping' is present in BJ, as well as WC and Religion. The act ends with Lana dreaming about how things could have been vs. how they actually were. (Honeymoon & Video Games) Intermission: Burnt Norton deals with the concept of time & destiny and how they're intertwined. The poems essentially states that worrying about 'what if' is basically irrelevant, since it will never become reality due to the fact that the past is over and over done with. We cannot change anything from the past. 2. ACT = Present, Future This section focusses on Lana's most recent relationships to Barrie (SOC, TLY) and Francesco (Salvatore, Swan Song), as well as her dealing with fame and the media. The section ends with Lana finding freedom, love and happiness. Living the simple and untroubled lifestyle of a "Brooklyn baby", listening to jazz music , smoking pot and fucking her cool boyfriend .

This is an almost perfectly accurate representation of what an average would look like. Although BD would most likely be replaced with Sad Girl.

Edit: I just realized I made a post here before.. Not including AKA Best: Brooklyn Baby Black Beauty Cola National Anthem Blue Jeans Worst: Sad Girl Guns & Roses Lolita High By the Beach Salvatore

I agree with the majority of comments tbh. Honeymoon is very cohesive and quite beautiful and dreamy but overall very tedious to listen to. UV has much more edge and depth to it. UV is heavy and Honeymoon is hollow. The production and lyrics sound rushed, which is weird since UV was actually the rushed album. I honestly think she was much more inspired during UV bc she really had to turn her anger, depression, frustation, etc. into those flawless songs we've got in the end. UV and pop don't go in the same sentence. The rock production and her meeting up with Dan A. is what initially sparked UV or reignited the fire and passion for it as Lana herself put it. Yes, it may have gotten a bit of hype bc it was the follow up to BTD but Lana actually has quite a lot of casual listeners who simply appreciate her as an artist. Honeymoon, I believe, just didn't get ppl interested. Imo that is because High By the Beach and Honeymoon, the two weakest tracks from the album were used as previews. Terrence Loves You is good but very acquired taste and much too slow and acapella-like. Freak, should have been the lead single. It has the sort of dreamy and hypnotic vibe Lana is famous for and it has a much better trap production than HBTB. The song is a total bop but it's not as retarded as HBTB and could ahve actually gotten ppl interested in the album.

I think Freak is much better than Art Deco. The latter is non sense imo. I don't understand the metaphor she uses in that song and I think it's really overrated. Everywhere I go I see people saying it's the best song of the album and I can't really relate.

Best: Pawn Shop Blues National Anthem Cola Brooklyn Baby Black Beauty Worst: Brite Lites This Is What Makes Us Girls Body Electric Sad Girl (I'm not counting G&R because it was a bonus track) High By the Beach

Honeymoon - Pre-Release and Discussion Thread

I actually kinda agree. I think you put it a bit harshly but I can't deny that I feel sort of the same way. -
Meh I don't like this song. It's kind of tuneless and doesn't have a memorable melody imo. I also don't like the stripped production that much. Rick Nowels can do much better. I'm actually really disappointed right now. Lyrically this song is one of her best ever! But the melody is just all over the place and I hate that it's nearly acapella. The production in Lana's songs was what made them even better and now the production is extremely weak on all the tracks. I hope you guys don't get mad at me for being so negative but I'm really not feeling anything from this album so far.

RIP European tour RIP the good songs from UV (PWYC, Black Beauty, Flipside)

OMG amazing! Let's hope she'll add more UV songs and brings back BrB! Also...I wouldn't mind if she cut Chelsea Hotel and Serial Killer, hell even Off to the Races to make more room for songs from that album. It's just frustrating to wait months to hear all these great songs live and all you get to hear are the 4 promo singles.
-
I really don't like the setlist for this tour at all. Too many unreleased songs which don't need to be promoted AT ALL and too many cover songs. I'd rather have her perform more songs from UV instead of cutting them down even further. Brooklyn Baby is the only one I am really excited to hear live and I'd be incredibly pissed if she would skip that one in favor of Ride, which I don't like that much. I think now that she already cut out YCBTB, Do Right and UATW it's time to add at least three more UV songs before she starts adding Honeymoon songs, which imo is another dumb move. She could still do songs from Honeymoon when she tours that album. Also, didn't she actually rehearse 19 songs? What happened to that? Cruel World Cola Blue Jeans West Coast Us Against the Wold Born to Die Ultraviolence Summertime Sadness Chelsea Hotel No. 2 Brooklyn Baby Ride Shades of Cool You Can Be the Boss Serial Killer Video Games Why Don't You Do Right? Off to the Races Money Power Glory Gods & Monsters Body Electric There are 6+ free slots for other songs. Why does she keep shortening it?

Oh, I like those! I've done the same for my versions of BTD and Ultraviolence. I kept Paradise seperate from BTD, though. BORN TO DIE: 1. Born to Die 2. Blue Jeans 3. Video Games 4. Dark Paradise 5. Carmen 6. Radio 7. Diet Mountain Dew 8. Off to the Races 9. National Anthem 10. Million Dollar Man 11. Without You 12. Summertime Sadness Bonus Tracks: 13. This Is What Makes Us Girls 14. Lolita 15. Lucky Ones I made those last three songs bonus tracks, because I rarely listen to them and because I think that they're kind of out-of-place on the album. ULTRAVIOLENCE: 1. Cruel World 2. Ultraviolence 3. Shades of Cool 4. Florida Kilos 5. Brooklyn Baby 6. West Coast (Rob Orton Mix) 7. Money Power Glory 8. Old Money 9. Black Beauty 10. Is This Happiness 11. Pretty When You Cry 12. Flipside Bonus Tracks: 13. Guns & Roses 14. Fucked My Way Up to the Top 15. Sad Girl 16. The Other Woman To me those last 4 are a nice additional side-story to the story told in the first part and I think they're not as strong as the other songs I put on my version of the main album. Flipside and The Other Woman both serve as perfect album enders imo. This way I can have them both!

Bridge: You're hot, hot weather in the summer Hot, hot neglectful lover Hot, hot weather in the summer You're crumbling, sadly You're sadly, crumbling Definitely my favourite part of the song. I just wish her vocals were a bit clearer.

https://twitter.com/diegorbermejo/status/596142696013565953 This jazzy instrumental song is Bel Air, but played on guitar. That's not a song from Honeymoon.
