literally only the 2 seconds of sax in the chorus is jazzy, the other 4 minutes of the song i would categorize as another genres
she called it jazzy.. but she meant "has a touch of jazz"
-
unless lana thinks she knows what surrealism is, like when she said TLY is jazzy but it isnt
tbh.. i really thin the hbtb pics captured surrealism... and then she put out a bunch of other good pics.. but i was expecting more stuff like hbtb.. anyways
kinda like with fuckin west coast.. she even said she felt like part of the dreaminess of it got lost in the editing and black and white or something
-
i really hope its not b&w because that would ruin the whole surrealism aspect of it
i was just thinking this exact thing

Yeah, I disagreed with a lot of the cons, hence why I still rate the album higher.
Lyrically I do think it was weak in spots, though, but the delivery was her best yet. (IMO! IMO!!!
)
well i mean.. i kind of agree. he was completely right that sometimes lanas lyrics are kinda.. trashy.. but i also think thats lana in essence.. she is kinda trashy but also very like extravagant and sultry .. i think the picture of the two is sort of what makes her her.. but.idk.. sometimes the lyrics are just a bit cheesy... i kinda liked the stranger than a stranger line tho.. i like how she uses the same word right next to each other but switches the meaning. its word play.
i also love blueblueblueblue in freak.. ehehe

Same here, I agree with a lot of his pros and his cons, although I like the whole album overall a lot more than him (I'd probably give it an 8/10)
except when he said it was vocally weak... people who don't like her style of voice immediately write it off as bad vocals so
-
lana is still #1 in alternative even tho she doesn't have any songs in the top 10. doesn't really get any radio play at all.. barely promotes herself. thats pretty good i think?

why are we even discussing the ride issue... i know i joined in the discussion but i regret it now lol .. this is supposed to be about art deco fml
-
Oppression doesn't have to be targeting at anyone specifically but the people of that culture were clearly not having it whatsoever.
well.. i mean this is pointless because this already happened anyways nothing any of us can do to change it.. hopefully lana learned from the situation.
but i feel like i partly agree with you, what she did was thoughtless asf.

If you think Lana did all of that community outreach in Native American reservations yet can't provide sufficient proof of them existing, you're totally wrong. And yes each feather of the war bonnet is given to the warrior for a heroic deed within their community, Lana didn't earn anything by fighting in a war, being an elder or anything like that...lol.
Still to say Lana is oppressing EVERY or even Any Native American ...? That's all I'm really arguing with. You're totally right it was offensive and rude for her to wear it. I've said it to many people. I've imagined it myself being part of a culture where I had to earn that, and then to just see some random white chick wearing it for no real reason in a music video would piss me off.

She will sell 100k at most now, because she will lose potential sales cause of #1 exposure.
...does #2 mean nothing.....?
-
But the thing is white people aren't oppressing anyone. Yes some people who happen to be white people are, but to say that as a whole group we all share the same idea is silly.
i mean i agree that white people as an entirety aren't oppressing people.. thats just as over the top as saying all black people live on welfare. so u right about that sorry

Ooh Baby (up until the chorus)

Body Electric
Mermaid Motel
Kill Kill

She's Not Me
too many others

youre absolutely right!!! culture appropriation can be a good thing when used appropriately and in context, some people just over exaggerate it
i wouldn't say cultural appropriation can be good... but for other cultures to fully embrace other cultures as well as their people would be cool
Acting like people of color are a monolith that are, as a whole, different and separate from white people is in itself more than a lil racist...
-
She prob used 'ghetto' cause she likes how it sounds and most importantly cause it rhymes with 'Deco'
why make such a big deal out of it?
THIS IS SO TRU XD
-
or people can stop seeing the differences between eachother and realize that incorporating other cultures in art/everyday life is truly stating ones passion for difference. It's getting real fucking old with the "ur white u can't wear this" or "ur black u can't wear that" um last time I checked we were all going forward as human beings and not closing ourselves off to little groups that reserve specific things? I mean the way you differentiate people like that makes you the racist for wanting to keep the "we'll never be the same" mindset alive. tsk tsk
well i feel like the issue is that society will embrace a part of (for example) black culture.. abut then oppress black people.. this can be said with many cultures..
and also i feel like.. i mean its right to say we aren't the same.. people of color and white people are not the same! even some white people vs other white people aren't the same.. same with poc vs poc..but.. that doesn't mean either one of us should be treated in a lesser way, or oppressed. were all humans at the core ..but to say we are all the same really kind of (imo) disregards each persons cultural background idk ;-;
-
I bet the people who are letting this "you're so ghetto" thing slide are the same ones who think it was anywhere near ok for her to wear a war bonnet in the Ride video...we can admit that homegirl has a lot of shit to learn.
sorry but no.. cultural appropriation and saying the word ghetto are two very different things... plus what if the person was literally from a ghetto? what if they described themselves as ghetto to her? like u don't know
ALSO .. for cultural appropriation to be a thing.. i really feel like it should be when a culture as a whole says its okay for them to use another race/ethnicity's culture but then oppress the people
BUT if you're going to be calling a person specifically out for cultural appropriation.. they have to have taken a minorities culture and actually oppress that minority... as far as i know lana del rey actually fucking worked/did some kind of service on indian reservations.. so how is she oppressing the people whilst embracing the cultural headress ...if she's not actually oppressing any? JUST CURIOUS .. i get it .. its kinda fuking rude to just nab someones sacred garment for ur music video but.. she wasn't really oppressing anyone...
-
People just think it's about Azealia because of the "you're so ghetto" line.
How is she ghetto though when she always wearing expensive shit and living in luxury? that's the only line that makes me think its not about AB
its cuz she's black and people are racist like that LOL
-
yo these were Lana's best live sessions I swear MTWBT, HBTB, UV and SS all sounded like the album versions
-
-
-
honestly that was such bullshit.. i swear this whole thing was a publicity stunt.. from calling it
"a live acoustic session" then just playing other acoustics .. to the fact that they only played her most popular songs in the background....
i wanted to hear lana live.. not hear songs I've already heard played in bullshit quality. if i wanted to hear music to watch boys to in low quality i would have fucking listened to the urban outfitter leaks FML .. i wasted over 4 hours for this ... I HATE FRENCH RADIO
