  1. Yeah, it's been pulled from every US retailer.

So, i just went to my local record shop and returned it. They had already pulled all copies from the racks. They told me that they had already reported it and been instructed to ship back all sealed and returned open copies. The record company hasn't given them concrete news, but they should be getting in a new shipment of the correct pressing sometime "soon." The employee told me to "like" the store on Facebook because they're going to post when the corrected copies come in. In the meantime i made an even trade for one of the new Beach Boys mono/stereo remasters :) Fuck yeah.

I'm really interested in seeing how this all turns out though--what sort of statement, if any, Interscope might release, if Lana states anything about it publicly, how many defected copies sold in total, how much money Interscope is losing, if this is going to affect sales/charts, as well as public perception of the album, because it's getting negative reviews on merchant sites based solely on the bad pressing. It's an odd situation because there's a new record out, but it's going to be unavailable for some time.

We should keep this thread going as the source for any news on any of this. I'd like to follow the developments but a) i'm lazy and b) i don't have the time. So if someone wants to keep tabs on this and update this thread that would be most welcomed and i'll telepathically send you a virtual cupcake for your efforts.

    B young, B dope, B proud.

  2. Bangs are TRANSFORMATIVE. If any woman in the world got bangs she would just shoot up (at least) 34% in attractiveness. It's true, there was a scientific study done on it once. I think it was done in Tulane, but it was also corroborated by researchers in Berlin. What, you don't believe me? I don't make things up!

God, Charlie looks like such a dude. Hey d00d wuts up, bro? Ur sister liz is kinda wierd no? LOL

I always have to look up TPD's initialisms on urban dictionary because i never know wtf they stand for. I am getting a good education though, so thanx TPD.

  3. See, this is a great interview, at last. And it paints her in a very different (favorable) light. More of this kind of interview, please.

    A few points:

Do you still read as much as you used to?

I can’t seem to stay focused on a book I haven’t read before. I sometimes listen to audio books, but otherwise, whether it’s with literature or music I have a tendency of constantly returning to a bunch of classics.

I think this explains and sums up a lot about her in general, the obsessive personality, the almost neurotic repetition, the pathology, the resemblance to Intense World Syndrome, as PrettyBaby once suggested.

Concretely speaking, how do you write for cinema?

I’ll show you, it’ll be a lot easier.

I start with an acapella that I record, alone at home, on my computer, on GarageBand, and then I let my arranger Daniel Heath listen to it (she lets us listen to a few minutes of a song that’s still in working: an acappella melody of an unbelievable purity. Her voices constantly changes ranges with a dazzling beauty. Her song, even if still ‘naked’, carries the track of the chords and arrangements.)

That’s what I give him, and I already start evoking which instruments and sounds we should add to it.

And then, that’s what he offers (we find the same song, but enhanced with symphonic chords and opulent piano arrangements; exactly what the first version was suggesting. It’s very astounding: you have the impression that the musical chords were already on the first naked acapella, when in fact they weren’t!)

My songs have a lot of information, even at a primary stage. And Daniel knows exactly how to translate my ideas.

    :legend: Revelatory. FINALLY.

Gosh, she really should release a whole record of her a cappella home demos. But, of course, there’s not a "market" for it. I would kill a baby elephant for that kind of release though.

Also, hello dream job. I’m going to put Daniel Heath out of commission and take his job, BRB guyz...

Do you always think about the chords when you’re composing?

They are fundamental to me, I hear them in my head while I’m writing.

Chords and voice: that’s where I start.

That sort of contradicts certain things she's said in past interviews. The truth probably lies half between being a full composer and being solely a melodist. But i think it's that she used to compose more fully in the past and has more recently let others handle the chords. The credits on Paradise list her as only having written the melody on every song except Yayo, which just lists it as being written entirely by her.

I listen to a lot of movies’ soundtracks, it’s in my DNA, like those of Giorgio Moroder or Thomas Newman…

Miraculously, even if I’m not a big musician, I always seem to acquire from my team what I had in mind. I explain everything in the smallest details and they understand the ambiance, the mood, the color that I’m searching for.

In Bel Air, I wanted the sound of children’s laughter in the park, but also rain: it symbolized the end of summer, the death of love, the collision of two worlds…

I adore the studio, that’s where I’m most meticulous and joyful. I would have loved to know more about the techniques because I rely on a sound engineer that frisks around with all these mysterious buttons.

Being independent in the middle of the night would be great. But I would miss team work.

OMG, hire me, Lizzy, cum on. I will teach you about engineering and i am well versed in film music! We can eat chocolate cake and spaghetti together...

The strength of these new songs lies in their vibes and ambiances. Unlike these of the album, you are not imposing hip hop beats that almost ruin them.

It’s a natural progress, I’m immersing into a more sixties ambiance, more Americana, more peaceful… I don’t feel like sending my songs to producers so they can add more beats to them …

See, there is a god and it is good.

Among these new songs, you chose to revive Yayo, one of the songs of your 2010 album under the name of Lizzy Grant. Will this album ever be re-released?

Like I did for Yayo, I would like to redo certain songs like Kill Kill and Mermaid Motel. They mean a lot to me, they are the most autobiographical out of all the songs, my sprees to Coney Island …

But I don’t like their production, I can’t re-release them as they are. I recorded them 6 years ago, an eternity…

Oh come on, Liz, 6 years is an eternity? Really now? But you mostly listen to music from over three decades ago. Oh well, guys, i guess AKA is gonna remain our little hidden treasure. Now we just need to find it in lossless...

    very nervously but with pleasure

I love the ring that this has to it, i think i'm going to use it for a title.

    Also, in the intro paragraph:

In the mid 50s, Elvis shocked strict America with his sensual gipsy look and his long ghetto capes.

Uh, Elvis wearing his silly capes in the '50s? Two decades collapased into one.

    Lana Del Rey angers everyone

    Pardon?

  4. Oh, i'm feeling all sorts of nostalgia here. I want to click on frankee's profile but i can't! Can you please unban frankee? PLEASE? Frankee should definitely be the one exception to the no spamming rule. I mean, COME ON, what's wrong with you people?

Okay fine, i will not be fooled! I know which mod is doing a spot-on impersonation of our beloved frankee. But i won't tell.

THERE IS NO CONGA ON COLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. TBH, I was a lot more judgey of other artists I didn't care for

Remember when you censured me that one time on ye olde dot fm forum for, what was it, ending a sentence in a preposition? Now PrettyBaby, what do we have here? Not only the same thing for which you once rebuked me, but judgey??? JUDGEY, PrettyBaby? Really now?

Jaykay, u no i luv u. I'll let it slide because i'm cool lyke that.

  6. First of all, Billy, there is no such thing as a congo drum, unless you just mean some generic drum from the Congo. Second of all, there is no conga on Cola. Hey, that sounds awesome, THERE IS NO CONGA ON COLA. Say that like twenty five times out loud in the middle of the night while everyone in your house is asleep. Just belt out THERE IS NO CONGA ON COLA until you start foaming at the mouth and someone inevitably calls the cops.

But, yes, you're right, those parts of Cola sound like the chorus of Kill Kill. Just as the intro of American sounds like the intro of Summertime Sadness, and other similarities i've caught that i can't remember right now. Because i can't be fucked to recall them.

  7. I remember on ldrfm a lot of people didn't like Kill Kill and it was heartbreaking. I see that somehow things have changed since then, which is amazing. Mmmm.

I was about to ask where is Kill Kill underappreciated/underrated. I don't remember this. I thought it was one of the songs that are pretty unanimously liked amongst her fans.

Kill Kill is definitely in my top LDR songs. It's heartbreaking to hear that she's not happy with how it turned out and wants to rerecord it. I mean, what? But it's not really surprising either.

  8. I'm actually sorry to have offended you, and approaching this from that stance would probably do us both a world of good. Seeing as Monicker, too, was offended, let me refer you back to what I told him:

Hey, i wasn't offended. I just think your line of reasoning was absurd and i explained why i think so. Believe it or not, that first post about coconut oil was me actually trying to offer a helpful tip to anyone who is so inclined to using lubrication.

  9. Lol yeah right, these cunts will need to get back to 6000 people if this shit was true. Contact the manager? where is that cunt? sipping his latte downstairs in the lobby? get upstairs and get this shit sorted, we got fan lust we need to indulge ourselves in.

You know...this stuff does happen. Sure, it's an egregious error, but not incredibly uncommon. It has nothing to do with an artist's manager.

And it has about as much to do with Lana as it has to do with each and every one of us individually.

  10. We can get them illegally in way higher quality

What? Way higher quality than lossless? 24 bit you mean? Erm...

One of the commenters there give phone numbers for Interscope:

I called. Twice. The first time i got disconnected and the second time they transferred me to the wrong department. Both times they were a teensy bit curt.

  11. I suspect that this is an issue with the copies in the US. They obviously pressed duplicates of the 12 track master rather than the 15 track one. Also, i have a feeling that the way they're going to rectify this is lame: by offering free lossless (or maybe even 256 kbps mp3) downloads of the 3 missing tracks. But everyone really should push to get a free copy of the correct pressing instead, which evidently is what Europeans have been getting?

  12. Interscope is not going to be happy. They messed something up when pressing the CDs. I got mine from my local independent store in town and it's also missing tracks 13-15. There's gotta be some sort of recall campaign, although i don't know how they'll go about doing it, if we'll have to send it back directly to Interscope or go through the retailer from which we bought it. Oh man, they're going to lose a LOT of money.

  13. You just answered your question, SitarFace ( :creep: )--they aren't available in higher quality. So...i tolerate it because what other choice do i have in hearing them? But if i have the option, and i can either listen to a CD or mp3s (and people often do some weird, stupid-ass shit to mp3s, which i would like to never have to deal with ever again) why would i choose the latter?

  14. You didn't listen to the leak?

Make sure someone is there to clean your body parts up

Nope. I've only heard Blue Velvet and Ride a few times, maybe thrice, and haven't heard the rest. From what little i can tell so far it seems this batch of songs are engineered and produced much better than BTD and that alone has me excited. We'll see though, tomorrow morning.

If it ain't CD quality, Mo's not here for it.

Speaking of which: Monicker, how do you listen to the songs from her that have never even been on a CD?

On my computer through headphones or i output my computer to my stereo and listen on my speakers. I'm not really sure what you're asking here.

    It is exclusive.

I meant the painting not the digipack. Is that what you meant? Is the painting nowhere to be found on the 2CD and single disc versions? :(
