  1. :lmao:

    I need a facepalm emoticon. :imbeingsarcasticbitch2:

I don't get why you're this bothered by journalists repeating her claim (which is a mere one year off from her real age). Do you think they're going to check her copyright files and do extensive sleuthing of her personal accounts and other sites on the suspicion that she might have lied about her age? You think they read LDR forums to verify what has taken fanatics months of research and stalking to ascertain? If you were a journalist and you sat down to write an article on an artist and saw that every source gave the same date of birth for said artist, you'd dig around to confirm the birthdate without having any actual reason to doubt it in the first place?

  2. ASCAP. She has definitely rerecorded them and licensed them. See here. (Search Writers -> LANA DEL REY) All of her original AKALG songs are there as well like 'Yayo' and 'Gramma' (because AKALG was an actual official release unlike Sirens) but you notice that there are doubles like 'Smarty' and 'Smartie', 'Put Me In A Movie' and 'Little Girls' (same song), 'Raise Me Up' and 'Raise Me Up (Mississippi South)', 'Mermaid Hotel' and 'Mermaid Motel'.

Alternate titles get registered as well. Every registered title does not necessarily indicate a separate, different recording. I'd advise against saying definitely in this case.

If you look at the link above, Burning Desire is a real track. Because of You is not on the list but that doesn't mean that it's fake. Body Electric and Blue Velvet aren't on the list but we definitely know they're real. (Body Electric might not have even been recorded yet because it's always performed live).

Blue Velvet is already a registered song from over 60 years ago.

Why are people always obsessed with these two songs. The two snippets are obviously something like 'iTunes previews' for the tracks because they are only around 30 seconds long which means that the two songs are meant to be part of a completely different album altogether.

Can you explain this logic? How are you concluding that because only snippets are available that it's "meant to be part of a completely different album altogether"? What does that even mean?

  3. A lot of people do. For women, it often manifests as something called Intense World Syndrome. Usually IWS makes people want to avoid intense situations (because they are overwhelmed sooner/more easily), but sometimes it expresses itself in thrill-seeking behavior. Or so I've read. I don't think this discussion is mean at all; I think it's exciting that our society is becoming more open about these things, and learning more about what diverse issues different people cope with every day.

Her "un-feminist" lyrics don't strike me as superficial, but rather complex. Sometimes our culture oversells Power Feminism (IMO, like women aren't allowed to have human needs/weaknesses/failings because at this point in history we have to "represent"), and I see Lana's strong perspective of apparent submissiveness as partly in reaction to that -- a stand for individuality. Yet, I also see her sometimes-submissive demeanor as apparent, an act. Not only because it's fun to role-play, but also to some degree because one effective way to subvert a patriarchal mindset is to infiltrate it and bring about change from within. (I may be projecting this, though, based on my own life story. It resonates so much with me.) For example, I see the video for PMIAM, more than the song, as participating in sexual "exploitation" to regain a sense of personal agency, while at the same time protesting it by interspersing clips of a man being taken away in handcuffs. And again, I may be projecting, but I imagine that she could be doing a similar thing in OTTR, to an extent, though perhaps with more participation and less apparent protest.

So anyway, that's what I mean when I say I think Lana subverts both the patriarchy and Power Feminism :)

Hard living (drugs, thrill-seeking, possible cosmetic surgery) can definitely take a toll. But things like heavy makeup and lack of sleep will temporarily age a person as well. Check out recent airport candids; I think she looks more fresh-faced in them. Also, look at these photos from the Tartan Clef Awards last year -- she's the same Lizzy she always was!

THIS. I am both an egalitarian and a feminist. (I even occasionally call myself a "masculinist," to what I hope is a healthy and beneficial extent, though I don't tend to focus on it as much.) My life has taken me from a casual feminism through patriarchalism into a fierce egalitarianism that seeks to promote and protect women and girls, men and boys, and those who don't quite feel they fit into those categories. But I am uncomfortable with both Power Feminism and Victim Feminism, and I'm seeking a happy medium, though I don't quite know what to call it yet. (I'm toying with "Shalom Feminism." Might be too obscure.) I believe it is the responsibility of each one of us to see, support, and promote the dignity in every human being, whether or not they make it easy for us.

The GQ cover and the boob-groping pic are SO NOT egalitarian, it's ridiculous. Yet it is a human perspective. I don't like it.

THIS too. I love her so much. Love you guys too. wub.png

This is why i love reading your posts and why you’ve always been one of my absolute favorite members!

I'd like to add that, despite any perceived simplicity and superficiality, Lana--her persona, her lyrics, the breadth of her recorded output--is complex. I wouldn’t be here right now if i didn’t think that. She's certainly not easy to box in, though journalists seem to love doing just that, while simultaneously singling her out as highly individualistic. What makes her interesting and engaging is that she’s highly idiosyncratic and filled with paradoxes, which she embraces. A lot of her work has an uncomfortable quality to it that can often fill the listener with uncertainty. Lines often get blurred. There’s a vulnerability, a rawness, and ambivalence in the simplicity of a lot of her lyrics and themes. And, you know, she’s flawed. But that’s great--she’s human. Post-feminists and detractors of feminism tend to make the dubious case that women who are seen as feminists should basically be infallible. It’s yet another bogus, flawed, and unrealistic argument aimed at discrediting feminism and oppressing women. Change from within is definitely my stance as well. bell hooks makes that argument a lot. There are clear ties there to the civil rights movement and the progress that came about due to the different “sides” working together. The oppressed obviously need the compliance of the oppressors, it can't just all come from one direction. This is why it’s important not to isolate feminism and designate it as a strictly female mindset/ideology. I also think feminism needs to stop toiling away in academia, but that’s another discussion, though very much related.

  4. How exactly does the "Go to last unread post" system work? How is that information stored? Is it linked to browser history? If i were to delete my browsing history, cookies, and all that, would it clear and reset my settings on here of what i've already read?

  5. There's a few mistakes in the lyrics here. You should copy them from where Lana herself posted the lyrics once. You can't play the video, but if you go here and maximize your browser, and then click on "More Info" in the upper right corner, the lyrics appear. Rahh!

Also, I remember seeing a screenshot someone took of her posting the original "Yayo" video on Jimmy Gnecco's wall on Facebook with the lyrics and a note saying something like "For you Jim <3". But I think the post has since been deleted and I can't find the screenshot anywhere.

And you wonder where your title of resident stalker comes from...

  6. I'm still trying to figure out what tune it is that the music box is playing in the intro and outro. Does anyone know?? I NEED to know, it's killing me badly! I think it's a traditional French song. Do we have any French people on here?

  7. Everyone else in the world seems to think these highlighted lines are "Sweet serial killer" too, but I can't make myself hear it that way. Does anyone else hear "It's a real killer" at these spots? I know I'm not losing my mind, there's only five syllables there... right?

PrettyBaby, you apparently are losing your mind, sorry. It’s okay though, you can go ahead and commit yourself to the asylum that is now taking patients who dislike I Sing The Body Electric. :P

It’s Cherry Coke and sweet serial killer. Though to your credit it really does sound like it’s a real killer if you tell yourself that’s what it is as you listen to the line. It's hard to decipher the line because she pronounces serial oddly (for rhythmic purposes) by placing the accent on the middle syllable, RI, rather than the customary first syllable, SE, so it sounds awkward, hence the confusion. However, the giveaway is that the first sound of the line is undeniably an S sound. That's what makes it certain. Also, the fact that she indisputably says sweet serial killer very clearly in the other section of the song adds to the likelihood that that is indeed what she is singing previously, no?

Ugh, some of the Auto-Tune in this song. WHY? That goddamn software should never go anywhere near her ever again. It’s so incredibly unnecessary.

  8. It's "In her Kiki Montparnasse". Explanation here.

Kinky mom pant ass. Wow. MILF alert. Best misheard Lana lyric ever.

Oh! That was you! I remember reading that back then and thinking, who is this fine fellow posting Man Ray links in the Lana Del Rey thread of this forum that i know absolutely nothing about?

    Kinky mom pant ass 4-ever

  9. Yeah, "The Man I Love" is a fan construction made up of repeated/looped/edited sections that were excised from what is known as the Trash Magic demo, which i still maintain (even without definitive evidence) is itself made up of two different recordings--the choruses of Trash Magic and the sections that make up "The Man I Love"--with some amazingly odd edits.

  10. It's my understanding that "Lolyta" was never an official title, but a fan error introduced early on that stuck around.

    This is correct.

And yeah, extra typing concerns be damned.

Also, people who do not like or even actively hate I Sing The Body Electric need to check into an asylum.

  11. I’m happy that the topics that came up with the GQ shoot are still being discussed and have now spilled into another thread; it's important and it's nice to see it being discussed. I agree with whoever said that everyone should be a feminist. Why in the world not? What single good reason is there not to be?

Anyway...about the topic of this thread:

As some of you may remember, i really hate the National Anthem video.

I like the Blue Jeans video much more than the Born to Die video.

TIWMUG is my least favorite song on the record.

I have no interest in Damn You, it’s a weak song with bad production and i think it’s been singled out as such a coveted song because that’s what previews do--they whet the appetite and make anything more appealing. I think there's a need to fill in the gaps and a desire to grab hold of the dangling carrot. That song stinks.

I think Lana can be incredibly cheesy and i love it. I also enjoy all of her paradoxes. I actually love that she has terrible songs sitting right alongside amazing ones.

I often wonder if she’s mentally unstable. She seems a bit off.

I don't know if this is an unpopular view or not, but she's weird, genuinely weird. Not Lady Gaga/Marilyn Manson weird, which isn't weird in the slightest. That said, what the hell does it even mean to be weird anyway? But yeah, she's a weirdo.

There are a few interviews in which i cringe because she comes across pretty dumb. I think she plays that up though and uses that as a sort of tool to be evasive.

I wonder why people--if they’re interested in this sort of thing--almost never bring up her nose job and instead focus on her lips. Anyway, discussion about her lips and nose is boring.

    That's it for now.

P.S. ednafrau, it’s nice to see you again!

  12. IDK all I can say is read this http://www.missrepre...the-year-cover/ but we all have different opinions and that's ok! :)

One doesn't even have to read a single word, just taking one quick look at that set of covers suffices. Again, this is not about nudity. Nor is it about dignity, or any moralistic link between the two. For me it's not even about Lana Del Rey's choices, because a big part of what i like and appeals to me about her is that there's something fucked up about her--so many of her lyrics, even her persona itself, often leave me feeling somewhat uncomfortable and confused. There is nothing safe about her.

My contention here is how problematic and transparent this magazine's whole approach is. This is the sort of thing we see everyday everywhere. But, still, it's upsetting, frustrating, and exhausting to continually see it--in this case in such an unmistakable and blatant fashion--men's control of the media (read: everything) and heteronormative male fantasy as the cultural norm. I mean, really, four "men of the year" uniformly displayed in tuxedos and the lone "woman of the year" naked, looking coy and vulnerable? Really? Can you dig a bigger hole for yourselves, GQ? This is a text book example of patriarchy, androcentrism, the media reducing women to their sexual capital, and a bunch of other insidious, poisonous things that sadly most people either don't notice, don't care about, or dismiss altogether.

  13. @TrailerParkDoll (forum user MissDaytona I believe?) posted this link on Twitter, which I think really says it all.

Ugh, that is so upsetting, and yeah, that's what i'm talking about. Great juxtaposition of pictures in that link that totally exposes GQ's aforementioned bullshit. This is so blatant and stereotypical it almost, almost seems like satire. Is it really the year 2012?

  14. I am relieved and find it refreshing to see people questioning aspects of Lana’s decisions rather than the obligatory OMG she is SO FLAWLESS. And PrettyBaby, i appreciate you bringing up gender a lot! There’s nothing inherently immoral, tasteless, or trashy about nudity, but sheesh, when it’s filtered through the androcentric lens of GQ then we’re just retreading the same old problematic terrain. I don’t know why anyone would want to take part in that magazine’s bullshit. That said, i thought this was a great interview.

Also, did anyone else think that the nudity was a physical manifestation of her being "naked" and "vulnerable" in the interview? She was "stripped" and "bared all."

    No. It's fucking GQ magazine.

  15. Yes, hence the "BAHAHAHAHA!"

(I was debating whether to add a *beat* or pause somewhere, or take the laugh to the next line. Apparently, I should have! :P Also, I thought "BAHAHA" as laughter was fairly universal, but maybe it's a local thing. )

It seemed like some sort of evil, sinister thing, so i thought maybe you were just being a Heavy Hitler. A local thing, huh? Where are you, in an isolated gothic castle atop a hill underneath a cluster of black clouds, reveling in your own evilness?

Oh gosh, the importance of a beat and a line break.

  16. Oh wait, i see what you mean now regarding the blue stars. I didn't realize what you were referring to because i was seeing them as blue dots, but now i also see blue stars. And when you hover over either one, they both say "Go to first unread post." Strange. Is there a reason why sometimes it's a dot and other times a star? I imagine there has to be some distinction, but they both appear to serve the same function.

EDIT: Okay, i think i figured it out. When it's a star, it indicates that you've posted in that thread.

  17. 1. We already have this feature! if you see a blue star, that's where you have to click on to read the unread post.

Hmm, i'm not seeing a blue star anywhere.

    2. It is customary to have them, we can discuss about lana achievement there.

Many things are customary. Prearranged marriages, for example.

    3. It is need to be in Lana portion, as it shows the inspiration of fan art based on lana! If you see other forum, you will get it :D

As evilentity said, moving it to the General section allows people to share fan-made art for other artists as well.

    6. um, what?

    I don't know, i was on a making-suggestions-kick, i just went with it.

    At any rate, thanks!

Thank you! I'm glad someone agrees with me. Perhaps this could just be a subsection under "News and Discussion" instead or even just a thread?

I really don't see more than a single thread being necessary for the topic of chart and sales. But then again, if forums were run according to my likes and needs, they would probably just implode into nothingness.

While I'm at it, I think "News and Discussion" should just be called "News" (it's a forum, discussion is implied) to be consistent with the name used in the "General" section.

    Ah, OCD. I like it.

I do think it would be useful to have a place to discuss the different albums as a whole (Sirens, AKA, and Born to Die).

Yeah, a separate Albums section is essential. Cast my vote!

Perhaps we're guilty of trying to get you to remake this forum in it's image.

Thou shalt not make graven images, my son.

Sorry, this post is an explosion of quotes.

  18. Pretty please, a feature that takes you to the last unread post when you click on a thread; that is truly one of the most useful features on a forum.

A Charts and Sales section isn't necessary and will hardly ever generate content.

The Fan Art section should not be in the main Lana Del Rey section, as that is too subjective for the general Lana Del Rey section. Perhaps it would fit better in the General section.

It would be nice if, with whatever changes are made to better organize the place, things remained unified as Lana Del Rey rather than making a distinction between Lana Del Rey and Lizzy Grant, as that is soon to be, if not already, moot.

It would also be nice if there was an option for people to customize the look/interface of the forum so that a color other than white can be chosen, so as to prevent blindness/suicide.

Sauerkraut goes really well with eggs.

    Muchisimas gracias!
