Imma kick back and watch this train run out of steam while people project their guilt onto others, assume Lana's motives and intentions, and pretend to know how the music industry works. All, of course, over a tall glass of maple syrup lemonade, a mountain of spaghetti, and a slice of lemon pie cake.

NO, but 4 seriously guyz, this is, uh, insane. Pooling money together so that one person can make a trip to DC to hear some old recordings and then report back with a verbal description of them? There's liking an artist's music and then there's being pathologically obsessive. That said, i'm not trying to stop anyone here. Be merry and carry on.

To those who moralistically recoil at the mere thought of tracking down these songs, and cite the "personal" nature of her unreleased music as evidence for leaving it be: these songs are registered at the LOC, not sitting on an old hard drive of hers in oblivion. Throughout the years leading up to getting signed to a major, she has distributed her music, whether at shows, giving physical copies to acquaintances and colleagues, or putting them up online. And now she's a major artist. You think a signed artist has the agency to just release whatever music whenever they desire? What do you think record labels, label executives, and distributors are for? She's under contract, of which we don't know the terms--she can't just "release" her music as she pleases, so the argument that because she hasn't done so yet she must not want to, is meaningless. That is flawed logic and a gross oversimplification.

Maybe she doesn't care for that old stuff. Maybe she doesn't even think about it anymore. Maybe she's embarrassed by it given the age at which it was recorded. But again, Sirens was given out to people, and these other unknown songs are registered with the LOC. The fact of the matter is that she is now a public recording artist with a back catalogue of registered music. This business about her old songs being "too personal" is hogwash. The idea being discussed in this thread wouldn't even cause material to leak. Now that is another topic altogether--the moral implications of pirating intellectual property. Why don't we discuss THAT rather than making shit up?

But I don't want to pay money for someone else to hear it.

We know. Just keep listening to Born to Die and nothing else and we'll carry on

    My unpopular opinions:

Lucky Ones is the best song on BTD.

The album version of Dark Paradise is annoying and melodramatic.

I don't care that Lana has become a caricature of herself because I think she should do what she wants with her career, in terms of her writing style and all. If she wants to fit a certain ideal in her mind, go for it. I like both albums and I enjoy the diversity between them.

I don't care that she isn't Lizzy Grant anymore. Every artist is going to/needs to evolve at some point, for themselves.

Also, guys, she has a nose job. It's so fucking obvious. :imbeingsarcasticbitch2:

I think her nose looked way better before she got it done. It still looks fine, though.

I've mentioned this on Twitter and SIN, but I thought I should post this information here. Before the "List of unreleased Lana Del Rey songs" Wikipedia page was recently deleted, it mentioned a 7-track audio recording called either "Rock Me Stable" or "Young Like Me" registered with the US Copyright Office by Elizabeth Woolridge Grant in 2005, which I believe would pre-date "Sirens". The Wikipedia page had also mentioned an unreleased song called "From the End", also registered with the US Copyright Office by Elizabeth Woolridge Grant in 2005. However, the notes in this listing say "Words & music (collection)", so this may also be another album and not just an individual song. Before we get too carried away, it is possible that these songs may all be on "Sirens", or there may be significant overlap, but the possibility of two more early albums is exciting nonetheless.

To view the copyright listings, click here. Type "Grant, Elizabeth Woolridge" in the "Search for" field and search by name.

I've already made inquiries with the Library of Congress and the US Copyright office as to whether there is any possible way to listen to these recordings. I'm not optimistic, but I should get an answer within a few business days.

Also, note that the 2005 listings show her birth year as 1985, not 1986, which indicate that she is really 27 years old, not 26.

    Proceed with caution.

Hey, wouldn't it be great if the producers had taken note of all the BTD criticisms we virulently spouted on LDR.FM and made suitable changes for the re-release?

I really want to hear acoustic Lana, like Sirens, but modern

I wish there were some more upbeat songs!! Something like Go Go Dancer!! It would prove to the critics that Lana isn't 'depressing', and she does uptempo songs so well. I hope she doesn't hold back with the vocals, like she did on Million Dollar Man. When she recorded it she just didn't have the right vocal skill to do the amazing shouty bits she does live. It will never happen, but Million Dollar Man (remastered) would be incredible. I like Body Electric, but I find the lyrics are quite samey.. it's a little boring.
I'm pretty excited for it!! Born to Die seems so new still, but it also feels like the end of an era. The PE will be such a great way to top it off and end on a high.
