longtimeman 8,907 Posted May 16, 2018 To me, the performance was not great, but the backlash was all about how the world was in 2012, more than about how she sang. Everybody thought they needed to 'expose' new pop stars as fakes, and this was just the perfect bandwagon for people to jump on, letting them be among the first toi bash a new artist who had been hyped. It was the same idiocy that was leading a bunch of people to write about how her father had 'bought' her recording career ( ) - yep, everything they knew about the music industry came from old sitcoms, and they were going to take her down. There's no way that it was a deliberate ploy by Lana for 'publicity' - don't forget that it sent her into a depression that lasted about the next four years, and stopped her from wanting to ever appear on television again (a nervousness that seems to still be on her mind to this day).
Peachycream 3,647 Posted May 16, 2018 It was not that bad. People were just being dramatic because they weren’t used to her style of singing and twirling

This. The fact that some fans think she did it for publicity That's worse than that shit about Rob paying her career lmao
Greenwich 1,052 Posted May 17, 2018 I agree the performance launched her career. Love it or hate it but a lot of us probably wouldn't know Lana without that exposure
softcore babyface 4,375 Posted May 17, 2018 and the fact that all SNL performances generally sound like shit. I know I remeber watching Adele on SNL a few years back and she sounded like a dying animal. it wasn't that she's a bad singer, but the bad acoustics.

AnarKissed 278 Posted October 13, 2019 Listening to those two songs on Saturday Night Live...I like them. No, they're not perfect, but still good. I like L.D.R.'s SNL performance. She should go back to the show again.
cjfinley 88 Posted October 13, 2019 I've only just taken the time to watch these now - I'd heard a lot about it but I have to say it's not as bad as I was expecting based on the initial reaction
