triangles19 2,454 Posted January 16, 2019 Hey y'all, I don't see any discussion around comic books around here. I live in France and here there's a public for it but it still is a niche. It's a little bit costy here and there's mostly a year of interval between the US release and the french one. It's known as something VERY american. I personally read a lot of them. For the americans here, are comic books that big in your country pop culture ? Is there an adult public or is for young readers ? And what about the other countries ? What are your favorite comic books (titles or series) ?

And what about the other countries ? What are your favorite comic books (titles or series) ? Our most popular movies the past decade have been based on comics, so it's a pretty big thing in pop culture. Some people view comics as things for children, but most comics I've seen recently have been more adult based and are more acceptable as an art form than in the past. Here's what I've been reading the past year America Batgirl Bingo Love Bitch Planet Bitter Root Exorsisters Faith Ghost World Hack/Slash Jook Joint LumberJanes Gotham Academy Man-Eater Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur Moonstruck Motor Crush Ms. Marvel Paper Girls Saga Self Made The Silencer Snotigrl Squirrel Girl Tank Girl The Guild Unnatural I highly suggest Unnatural, Bitter Root, Jook Joint, and Exorsisters. They all started last year so they should be easy to catch up on Imagine Comics has been releasing the best stuff the past few years. If you want to start reading, I suggest literally anything by them you think looks interesting. More classic comics, like Batman, Captain America, Spiderman, etc. have so much back material that I can't even attempt to start. Batgirl is already hard enough to keep up with.

Omg i don't know most of all that titles, I'm digging it right now. I'm too focused on DC Comics since my childhood so I need to open to smt else. I tried some Valiant series recently and it's pretty good. I've read all the Batgirl series, my fave is the 52 one but I LOVE the Rebirth too, especially since her new outfit. Nightwing is very good too in that type of ambiance. Edit : What is the "America" title ? Is that the Marvel one ? Is The Guild close to some kind of Buffy tonality ? The titles I've read recently are : Flash 52 <3 Batgirl Rebirth + 52 Catwoman by Ed Brubaker + 52 Action Comics Rebirth Moon knight Archie Comics (Archie by Waid / Archie Horror Comics) Justice League / Teen Titans Rebirth <3 Cyborg (DC You) : That one is amazing as hell, that character moves me since my childhood Kill Or Be Killed Old School 90s : JLA Batman Batwoman 52 (I was so disappointed by the Rebirth one) All the 52 Green Lanterns that are my all time fave. I wish I could discover a little bit more the Marvel comics, but in France their diffusion is so chaotic, do you know a title that can unite various character but can still be understandable for a debutant ?

I haven't tackled much DC or Marvel because of how intertwined their series are and how much material there is. I'm happy to meet another Batgirl fan!!! Rebirth is my favorite and Stephanie Brown is my favorite Batgirl; I still need to check out her Spoiler character some more. II just recently started trying to get a complete Batgirl comic collection. I'm only on Cassandra Cain and the newer series (not even attempting at older stuff because a lot it is too expensive) but it's been fun collecting again. America is the Marvel one! The Guild is based around pc gamers and is pretty cool, like a lot cooler than it sound lol. It's based off a youtube series if you want to check that out. There are some things on your list I want to check out, just need to wait for some of the current series I'm reading to come to an end. Collecting gets expensive I'm actually about to leave to go to a local comic shop and buy some more things lol.

SlowGinFizzzz 15,354 Posted January 16, 2019 I'm not a huge fan of comics, but this biography pretty much left me speechless. Honestly, it's so well-made!

I don't like to read a book on a screen and I don't think it's very good for the eyes health but it's ok with comic books. Stephanie Brown is the only Batgirl I don't know well, I have the collection but I have to read it yet. If you wanna dig her Spoiler side there's a Batman collection called "War Games" where she's important. I'm taking a serious look at the Guild, it looks so cool <3 LANABOARDS EXCLUSIVE Okay I've never really told anyone this, but when I was younger I had a huge collection of Sonic The Hedgehog comic books lol Hope is a dangerous thing for a cutie with your past I only care about Watchmen but ppl here have good taste so I'll take a rec if ya got any I never read Watchmen but I know it's one of the biggest thing that was made. If you're interested by this dark adult vibe, the Miller's Dark Knight series can be great.

callmedecember 2,319 Posted May 25, 2019 Y'all should check out the Paper Girls saga, I started it over a year ago and I'm finishing it and ugh, so good. I'm also reading the Sabrina comics since I've watched the first season of CHAOS in Neflix back in October and I want to see the second once I'm done my finals.
trayertrash 7,210 Posted May 25, 2019 I second Paper Girls! I grabbed Vol. 1 & 2 a few weeks ago and it's really good so far! My local shop had a thing all month where if you came in every Saturday & got your card stamped, you'd get a free comic. Today, if you came in with all 4 weeks stamped, you got 15 free comics. Most of it was stuff I had picked up on FCBD, but it was still cool. I'm currently reading Blossoms 666. I've never been super into Archie comics, but this one has me hooked! I also got Afterlife With Archie a few months ago in a monthly goodie bag, which was good too. I might start reading all the Archie horror stuff? I picked up things from my pull list and a few older things I ordered. Batgirl, Faithless, Dollface, and Middlewest. Last week I started Last Stop On The Ride Line and it's great so far! Thumbs, and Sonata start in the next few weeks and I'm excited for them! In August, r(ender); comes out and I'm suuuuper excited about that! Umm... and y'all, PLEASE read Unnatural, Die, and Bitter Roots. They're so damn good.
