also? idgaf how many songwriters are on a song - so when i said “i want her to be a good songwriter again” i meant that as in…. i want her to be able to recognize what’s good songwriting again. and sometimes that means recognizing that maybe you could benefit from a co-writer

its weird too, because i do think froot is overall her best work and that was self-written so? maybe it just depends on where she is in life. i know with froot she really had something to prove so maybe she just REALLY gave it her all, but, if she insists on writing alone, i wish that passion and drive was still evident

Just listened; I do like the chorus, the rest is messy: intro is really bad, and neither bridge nor outro impress me enough, the instrumentalisation is unbearably simple which contradicts any TFJ or FROOT the song sentiments. Feels like it needs a radio mix or something, a weird lead single choice. We went from her listing places in To Be Human and Ancient Dreams to her listing colours now, okay?

 

Sonically reminds me of Blue, sorta. But why is it a lead single, when it's neither ambitious nor pop enough? Thought she would enter a cunty era but currently it feels more clowny.

The pitched vocals really doesn’t do it for me still I think lyrically it’s just a really awkward section and it just doesn’t work. They should have been more background vocals than the lead for that bit, but hey ho.

She should've made Love + Fear with Rick Nowels. All of it. He'd save it. He'd slay vulnerabie songs with her - Marina's I Never Learn/Ray of Light where? - and take care of the sonical mess the tracks are and handle it with grace just like he did on Honeymoon with Lana. Make it work.

it's baffling... he has so many unreleased songs with artists/bands and none of it just come out? i can assure you it's not a case of not being employed. im so sorry papa nowels

Right! There only being one Rick song on that album is such a tease… it was the perfect album for him to work on 😭😭

 

Ugh the production on that album always upsets me so much, it’s so boring, but rick? oh boy he would’ve made it sound like heaven

looking at his recent discography is so depressing. it’s all the most random ass songs that no one is listening to. tiesto? dj khaled? tones and i? this man writes pure poetry and THESE are the songs getting released? (and most of them just being interpolations of his older stuff)

Listen to David Kushners new album. All of it is produced with / written with Rick nowels and omg it's amazing

Tbh I love the production on most LF tracks because of it's semi-electro-minimalism (can't specifically describe that). Not talking about Baby or Enjoy Your Life or something but look at Emotional Machine, Handmade Heaven, Soft To Be Strong, End Of The Earth, To Be Human, Believe In Love, Too Afraid, even Superstar. They sound so crystal clear, smooth like silk in water.

 

I still dunno why am I still so soft on Love + Fear but I guess it had a huge impact on me.

This crystal clear vibe is what she shoulda stayed with. I like it a lot but this tropico vibe elsewhere is off putting admittedly and why is this all mixed in one single project sends me.
