Billboard should rechange some rules about their numbers: preorders for vinyls or CDs should count as week one and not count the week they are sent. That way, we could get back to the good old days of short pre-releases like HM. 7

I get that they changed it so vinyl that weren't even in production didn't count but the new rule only makes albums delayed for months and it's boring (for fans and for the artist, specially those who rely on physical sales so they are not allowed to release digital only first like Lana?) 3

Ppl would be putting in thousands of fraudulent preorders and then cancelling them after being counted towards sales. Billboard will nevaaa do that 3

Expand i understand why Billboard changed the rules in the first place because the biggest artists in the world were abusing them and ruined it for everyone, of course, but it really is so messed up because it’s affected the whole industry and album release rollouts so much. it’s so ridiculous and annoying just as a fan, i can’t even imagine as an artist. i agree, they really should change the rules again but come up with something so there aren’t any loopholes the biggest artists were cheating and forced billboard to adjust the rules to stop it, which is already going to affect turnover. and then now those same big artists are the ones pressing millions of vinyl and overwhelming the pressing plants, which makes turnover time for everyone else even longer. i love taylor but i am especially looking at her 4
