Lana's Contribution Cut From Brian Wilson's Upcoming Album

Recommended Posts

Having read an article today, and just hearing Brian sing Last Song on Jimmy Kimmel-

this song is most certainly not a song anyone but Brian should sing.

It is a bitter, anti-Mike Love (Beach Boy) song about the breakup of the Beach Boys and in that reference, it actually is anti-Beach Boy (though Wilson IS the Beach Boys.

They never would have been anything without Brian.

So perhaps indeed Lana did not see a reason for this song-

ALSO- now it makes sense the Bob Dylan clip. That was exactly what this Brian Wilson song is saying. So it was Lana's cryptic response to Brian Wilson insinuating something.

It was about Brian, not about her.

Just more Lana negativity by the press and others in the industry.

Perhaps James Franco is correct too- Brian namedropped her to get her fans to buy his new album, knowing full well all this time she would not be on it.

Just another in a long line of artists that name drop Lana for their own good (until like Sam Smith or Lorde, they forget how much they owe Lana).

Lana is our modern day Edith Piaf. Totally unique. a mixture of Brian WIlson Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Elton & Bernie. Born to Die/Paradise is comparable to Elton's Captain Fantastic. All the records need to be listened whole. Waiting for a box set vinyl of all 400 songs not on any lp

I heard Brian sing it on Jimmy Kimmel (saw the youtube of the show).

Personal lyrics only make sense to Brian. Totally out of context for someone else to sing this song as it is a specific and nasty reference at that to the other living members of the Beach

Boys who Brian perceives to have screwed him for money. (Mike Love owns the rights to the touring as the Beach Boys name, and when they reunited last, Brian was fired by Mike

and Mike said he was only a hired hand. Imagine that.

One day it would be nice for the two to duet on a more appropriate song.

Lana is a big fan of the Beach Boys, and the Beach Boys evoke a positive mind frame. This song is a slow, sad negative bitter song.

More enlightenment, or mud for the water if you prefer

The Lana Del Rey collaboration, however, was nixed for editorial reasons.

While she recorded vocals on “The Last Song,” Wilson explains to Radio.com that he “decided that we were going to use our version [without Del Rey’s vocals] instead. It is a nostalgic lyric about the ending of something. It’s the last song at the end of the album.”

Was elaborates on that answer, offering further insight into the decision. “She sang a great version of it. It was actually really cool. It’s such a significant song. Brian’s had a 50 year career… and with this song possibly being a coda to that career, I don’t how you could have someone else on that song. It also means something completely different when  a young woman is singing it. It didn’t feel like someone taking a look at their life.”

So Don Was, the producer now says her version is  recorded.

Look for it to leak at some point and then look for the two of them to duet at an award show later on.

The song if one heard it really is about him and the Beach Boys and their lawsuits and breakups and his getting older.

Was is correct, that Lana singing it gives it a different meaning altogether.

But now I can't wait to hear her version. Any cover she does she does better than the original. (That Kasabian song comes to mind and one day would love to hear Lana and Leonard Cohen actually sing together).

Now to decide if I should drive to Florida for the last date on the US tour. (Washington, NYC, Boston, NJ not enough)

I was just reading this review of her show and came across an interesting comment at the bottom posted yesterday:

'Interesting comparison to her song sounding like Beach Boys Kokomo. Saw her yesterday on a Beach Boy TV special doing some of the songs on Brian Wilson's album.'

Anyone know anything about that?

Here's where I saw it http://www.oregonlive.com/music/index.ssf/2015/05/sasquatch_2015_lana_del_rey_st_vincent.html
