Party Party 3,532 Posted November 25, 2016 ( Surprised there's no thread for this PC Music queen, but please correct me if I'm wrong I've searched everywhere for a GFOTY thread, so I thought I'd make one. ) Polly-Louisa Salmon, is a British pop singer-songwriter and producer. Better known by her stage name, "GFOTY" (abbreviation for "Girlfriend of the Year"). Since early 2014 and on, she has released multiple singles and EPs through the experimental pop label, PC Music. Much of her best-known work are released in the form of mini-mixes. She currently has 4 released singles, and 2 EPs, VIPOTY and Call Him a Doctor. She also has 5 mini-mixes out, which you can find here, on PC Music's SoundCloud account. Here is one of her first singles, Bobby. Hope everybody enjoys her music!

KillForLove 13,361 Posted March 16, 2018 Dude, she fully apologized. https://www.google.com/amp/s/pitchfork.com/news/59874-producer-lotic-and-pc-music-slam-racist-comments-made-by-pc-musics-gfoty/amp/ Her apology was half assed ~at best~ and the whole "I was actually trying to be funny, but I'm sorry" isn't really an apology, it's more of an excuse. Regardless of whether she tweeted sorry because she received backlash, she still sent it in as a review knowing it would be published, you can apologize for being racist, but you still have to deal with the consequences of being racist. *Also PC Music as a whole lifts a lot of their material from trends started by LGBTQ+ POC but rarely shows out to support those artists beyond working with Mikky Blanco once but thats a whole different issue.*

He was their creative director for awhile, and it seems like they are all still friendly. Danny is friends with / has worked with Superfruit, as well as MNEK—and had Kim Chi in the Me4U video. Dorian Electra is non-binary...I can’t find it in an interview atm, but I’m pretty sure she identifies as queer. When SOPHIE put out IOTC, she received a bunch of support from pretty much the entire label on Twitter. Additionally, A. G. has collaborated with Father (and the tracks are supposed to come out, but haven't yet). And, if you're including Mykki, might as well include the mixtape collabs with Starrah (who is Black & queer), Cupcakke, and Abra. Danny's worked with Tkay Maidza as well. Obviously, the actual roster of the label is all white, but they are not not supporting LGBTQ+ and POC artists. I think only more collaborations will continue to happen as A. G. & co. gain traction, largely thanks to Charli's exposure.

PC Music and the whole queer culture that they parade around there music borrows heavily from the Ball Culture, something pioneered by queer POC (and something definitely lacking on their label). I guess a lot of it comes down to perception, but in my eyes they really pay faux-respect to the whole thing. It's a bunch of straight white people up on a stage playing repackaged queer-inspired sounds while attempting to vogue but be "ironic" and do it poorly. It just comes across as very appropriative to me. To me PC Music started off as a camp project and I just feel like the more they push this queer image, the more they're doing it just to seem "different" and "weird". I just feel like they don't actually respect these queer people that they surround themselves with (minus SOPHIE) and that they're really just using them to build an image. Also please don't get me started on Dorian Electra as if anyone would know who they(idk which pronoun they use?) are if they didn't build internet support through white supremacists and the Libertarian party in the early 2010s.

Make it sticky 453 Posted December 15, 2018 Off topic but to continue: I don't really get the ball culture/vogueing vibe from PC music? Or that they are inherently 'queer'/pandering... just that their fan base mostly is. Unless There are certain performances/shows that have taken place that I haven't seen? I feel like I get a more awkward nerdy white kids vibes who enjoy making music/art from them, I've never thought of them as super Queer/ball culture/camp other than a few select tracks from them (that edge on camp) and I've never got that vibe from their visuals either.
