girl some soft drums, piano, guitar, a shaker and two violins are indeed minimal production :eartha:

A&W did have a totally new sound which is great, but it’s only half the song! only standout together with Taco from the album tbh

yeah you should probably listen to charli cause lana doesn’t really seem your style :girlbye:

some fans (like me ) know that this is what shes been doing from the start. some fans (like me) love seeing her be vulnerable and raw in her writing.

before born to die she was doing the exact same thing shes doing now, shes an expert at it. her lyricism is gorgeous.

i feel like people who say shit like this don't really like lana del rey. they just love the nostalgia that comes with her music they remember listening to. be open to change because this lana is not changing

omg, exactly! this is what she was doing back when she was just a girl with her guitar, writing lyrics and melodies just by herself

loved your point cause i feel the exact same way

yes, minimal production compared to -for example the mass layered Ultraviolence… like its not hard to understand why many people are put off by YET AGAIN such a soft whispery ballad with minimal production. her last three albums sonically sound very similar

okay but i still really don’t agree with the “it all sounds the same” take. and I think a lot of people are just stuck on ultraviolence as the gold standard and ignoring everything that’s happened since. like yeah, she’s shifted away from that sound, but to act like everything since has been whispery ballads with minimal production?? come on. that’s just not true.

and tbh it’s totally fine not to like where she’s gone sonically, everyone has their own taste. but let’s not pretend it’s because the music has no range. sometimes it feels like people just want uv 2.0 over and over, and anything that isn’t that gets called “boring". also I find it kinda funny that let the light in was the standout for you from ocean blvd, because that’s literally slow and soft guitar. basically the kind of song you’re calling out. like???

it’s just so safe like c’mon her last three albums sound VERY similar sonically including the production, compared to her previous (early) work when every album sounded very different, new, exciting and fresh … i don’t get why some fans get angry when you point that out when it’s very valid criticism :true:

okay but like i kinda get this point too. born to die, ultraviolence, honeymoon, lust for life, they all had distinct aesthetics. but at the same time you can’t expect an artist to completely reinvent themselves every album. that’s just not sustainable and honestly not even necessary. lana’s more recent stuff does share a core vibe, but that’s because she’s clearly settled into a sound that feels true to where she’s at now. it’s not about playing dress-up in different genres anymore. it’s more internal, lyrical. she’s refining, not recycling.

and like why does “sounding similar” automatically mean bad or lazy. a trilogy of albums with shared sonic dna can still explore totally different emotions and themes. she’s doing that, just in a more subtle less flashy way than before

so yeah the criticism is valid to an extent, but fans get annoyed because it often comes with this tone of “she’s fallen off” or “she’s not trying” when in reality she’s just not doing what some people want anymore. and that’s not a flaw. that’s growth.

you’re not “a better lana fan” the way you’re portraying yourself lmao i’ve been a fan of her for a very long time (Lizzy Grant era) and it’s very valid some fans miss her innovating and changing her sound instead of recycling the same sound

matter of fact i’m very open to change, i hope she finally changes her sound again instead of the blue banisters part 4 :mariah3:

okay so, first off, i think it sounds like summertime sadness, but a more happier, lighter version of summertime sadness, it actually reminded me a lot of this particular demo

i think it's very nice, pretty bittersweet, so it almost made me want to cry, just thinking about things, and life... it certainly isn't one of her all-time greatest songs, but it's very solid and one i will enjoy for years to come, just like most of her other songs <3

Now when I have listened to the song many times, I definitely noticed that that when the chorus hits it really reminds me of Summertime Sadness as well that demo version and live version. Glad you enjoyed the song!

I agree that her last couple of albums sound similar (though I don't think Henry sounds like anything on OB), and being a BTD-UV-Honeymoon widow, of course I wish she'd go for a cinematic sound, but, at the end of the day, I can't tell Lana what to do :omfg2: I honestly think she prefers making folky songs rather than being a huge popstar, which she totally could if she wanted to.

So we all just like what we like, and if you're not a fan of her music as a whole, but you're just a fan of some of her albums, that's fine <3

no exactly!! this has alwasy been her end goal. every album is more stripped back then the next as she gets more comfortable with releasing.

I mean they clearly meant album not random particular songs. But on the second hand how can she drastically change her sound while doing country? Nobody wants real redneck music from her so she did Henry in her style. I’m expecting new album to be the honeymoon x cocc mix

no your not open to change because you cant accept THIS change. i never said I'm a better lana fan. i just said that this has always been her end goal with her music and you wanting the feel the way you felt when ou were 16 playing lfl for the first time is not going to happen. she is growing. shes married. shes in the bayou. do you think shes going to pop fucking ottr pt2 out??? or salvatore?? her life doesn't aline with that anymore.

maybe you love the concept of lana del rey, but this is lana, and shes been showing us some may and Elizabeth recently. and I think that should be celebrated instead of wishing for the music she made in the darkest time in her life.

this is lana del rey, and it will stay lana del rey

Ever since Honeymoon I wanted Lana to go more jazzy... Like her voice would be so perfect! I'm kind of tired of the folk vibes, her voice is wasted for it and it's not a good match. But at this point I don't think it's ever happening so...

Oooooo now I've heard that instrumental break many times and when the harp part comes before the final chorus, it reminds me of instrumental break's end in Yes To Heaven James Ford's version

i can accept the change yet also criticize “the change” being releasing three albums that sound very similar to eachother (a part from one or two random songs) just like a lot of other fans are disappointed by that? why does that anger you so much :pls:
