you make some valid points tbf, but as Sadness is a Butterfly said, we only have snippets to go off of. even if the complete song was only 2:00 long, 30-40 seconds is not enough to make a final judgement on the song as a whole. i think we mentioned before that Mel has full creative control (you may have been offline for that tho)

in theory, i would LOVE any rock sounding songs (for the most part) but given how weve been desperate for songs like Sirens or Dragon's Blood, these rock leaning songs are not giving like i feel like they should be
