@Elle would it be appropriate to have a thread where all lyric analysis for every song can be in one place or is that not necessary?

genuine question is there seriously not a full lyric analysis thread here after over a decade of this site being up or am i just not finding it… if there really isn’t let me go ahead and make one

i actually love this conversation, it’s interesting seeing how people interpret her lyrics, especially her more recent ones because they’re so full of metaphors and hidden meanings. is there a thread here for analyzing song lyrics? i’m gonna check, if there’s not trust i will be making one tonight

right i feel like “my body marred my soul” is the thesis for the whole song, a lot of people have been wondering what the tunnel under ocean boulevard is specifically a metaphor for and that line tells us straight up. on the outside people don’t see her for who she truly is

I can hear mind too but marred just objectively makes more sense considering the following line; handmade beauty sealed up by two man made walls, marred literally means “to impair the appearance of”. it makes absolutely perfect sense in the context of the song and it connects to the metaphor throughout the entire thing and it’s beautiful. even if it’s not marred i’m choosing to believe it is

lana accepting lanaisababe’s request and like praising her still surprises me because didn’t lana block and unfollow her a couple years before? i remember all of the big fanpages back then like lanaisababe and lanaisiconic used their lana follow to DM her and ask her to give them merch for free or something and then she blocked them all and they all freaked out maybe lana forgot that happened and never unfollowed her on honeymoon

i’m really curious how people are listening to the song because on my like phone speakers and car speakers i can hear all of the other things but when i put on my good headphones and turn the volume up it’s very clearly “marred”, “thrive”, “give me fire”, the only one that i’m not confident in is leaning/lennon but i think it’s lennon

i’m not getting my hopes up because that could literally be any shoot and it might just be chuck doing a photography gig, but if it is a MV set i don’t think it’s unrealistic for us to expect a MV by the beginning of March it took about 5-6 weeks between when FIILY/TG was filmed and then released

chuck’s work is a hit or miss for me, she has some really beautiful work but then also sometimes she puts free iphone app polaroid frames around digital pictures, doesn’t even try to make the digital picture look like actual instant film, and then lets it be used as a professional press shot

lennon/leaning is the one that i’m most torn on, both make very good sense but if she said “leaning” then she pronounced it extremely lazily, it’s very clearly a short E rather than a long E. but also i still can’t hear her say “in knots” instead of “on [ice]” in MTWBT whatsoever so

i really am oddly so excited for interludes esp because they’re so long… long interludes add so much to an album and make it feel like such a journey and experience, miss cinematic lana is back
