while i like Zach Dawes’ work, i think Zach had a lot more of a role in that song than people think. Hell, Zach is the first credited producer, Jack is credited second 😭

jack discourse again so i’m just gonna say it again as well, i don’t understand any of the hate! not even on the mixing, which i’ve seen people criticize too. there’s not a single lana+jack song besides one that i listen to the instrumental of and think “oh this is bad”. other than that awful out of place beat that was added to How to Disappear, the only complaints with some of the songs he’s worked on actually stem from lana herself, like the melodies (which she writes) are boring or drag on. but i don’t have a single complaint about any of his production or mixing choices besides HTD

drew’s work with lana so far is a hit or miss me for me. i do notttt like Beautiful and Violets for Roses, Sweet Carolina is okay, but Arcadia and IYLDWM are great. can’t say i was necessarily excited to hear that he was working on this album again but I don’t have bottom of the barrel expectations either, i still trust him to make something… dare i say… beautiful

if anyone’s not completely familiar with time signatures it’s just how many beats are in a measure; like Shades of Cool is in 3/4 so you tap your foot 3 times to match the beat, Born to Die is in 4/4 so you tap your foot 4 times to match the beat. imagine trying to tap your foot 5 or 7 times and think of a melody that still sounds good rhythmically lol
-
she has! only recently though, specifically in Black Bathing Suit where the time signature changes from 4/4 in the verses to 3/4 in the prechorus, to 4/4 again in the chorus, it’s very uncommon for time signatures to change in the middle of contemporary songs lol. 5/4 and 7/4 are really odd time signatures to write music in and have to be rhythmically and melodically structured differently, the only recent examples of songs i can think that use them are Tolerate It and Closure by Taylor Swift (5/4) and Look at Me Now by Caroline Polachek (7/4)

i still am so curious how she is going to make this work rhythmically 😭 like i think i have an idea for how she’ll sing “some small intention or maybe get your attention for a minute or two” but have absolutely no idea about the rest it’s very easy to find with a google search i’m not getting my first warning point today!

I JUST SAW THISSSS omg if we get another album this year i will pass away she could just be talking about the B-sides but that is kind of a weird way to phrase it/tease it if she is. i was just thinking yesterday that i hope it won’t take another 5 years for another Nicole album
-
i’m curious… would y’all have rather the track list been announced at the same time as the album, meaning that by this point we would have drastically less to speculate about, or are you glad that we still don’t know it and have something we can always talk about until we do? i’m so desperate for these damn song titles but also the drought would kind of be worse if we already knew them and had them out of the way
-
also i just uploaded Breaking Up Slowly to AHA and it comes up as just “Breaking Up Slowly - Lana Del Rey” with no mention of Nikki despite her being credited on streaming, so yeah i guess we will see how the features are credited exactly 💀 we’re so hungry this is such a minuscule and weird thing to speculate about lmfaooo
-
i was curious about this as well, however i think it depends on the DSP for how features are formatted in relation to the title. so maybe that’s why his name isn’t on the AHA page? like for example, on Spotify, Breaking Up Slowly is just called “Breaking Up Slowly” but the artist line says Lana Del Rey, Nikki Lane; meanwhile on Apple Music it’s called “Breaking Up Slowly (feat. Nikki Lane)” and the artist line just says Lana Del Rey. i guess we will see, i wouldn’t mind the samples not being credited, but Dealer kind of annoys because Miles is on over half of the song and isn’t listed as a feature 😭 it would just be weird again for the contributors with entire verses or more to not have their name attached to the song
-
Jon is credited as a writer on CN and track 7 (which we now know as the second interlude), so i guess we can assume he’s featured on it unless he just wrote it with her and got his feature credit from the track 7 interlude. although it’s worth nothing that just “Candy Necklace” doesn’t fit in the track 6 spot on the blurry track list, but “Candy Necklace feat Jon Batiste” fits perfectly
-
these are funny to me because the album really couldn’t have been called anything but Born to Die, it just couldn’t have been. Born to Die and Ultraviolence are the only lana albums that i think their given titles were the only reasonable option in existence, i just can’t see them being called anything else like all of the other albums could've been

right!! just the melodies on Afraid would’ve complimented other Paradise tracks like Bel Air and American so well
