    misleading title -_-

I'm not going to take some of the "bitchy" things stated in this interview to heart because I understand that it was a translated interview and somethings might have been lost in translation or whatever. But I really wish like people already stated she would get over her "fear" of the US. She should know she has a solid fan base in the states as well. Just because she doesn't attract the crowds she attracts overseas, doesn't mean she doesn't have people who like her. Charts should be enough proof for her.

The emotional quality (or lack thereof) in music is a purely subjective point, yes, but a large part of the premise of this thread/argument is absurd because Lana Del Rey has a relatively big vocal range, and i'm talking about her tessitura, so i'm not even including the extremes of her register where she still hits notes that are outside her vocal comfort. Yeah, she's not Yma Sumac, or even Mariah Carey, but those singers are rare in pop forms of music. She is also known for switching seamlessly between vocal styles, tone quality, and octaves within a song, sometimes even within one phrase. I wish people were familiar with the definition of a word before tossing it around so that is has absolutely no meaning.

I think people say that because they feel the need for her to make unnecessary stuff with her voice and reach high notes in every single song like a lot of popular artists do this days (that's not bad), when she's clearly not that kind of singer she just stays in the same mood through the whole song (something she doesn't do live), so people don't find it "entertaining" enough. In my opinion her voice has more soul and feeling than others who just sing about partying or that stuff they don't really feel but may be more fun to some people, when she needs to be soft and simple with her songs she does it, and when she needs to high up her voice she does it too, there's too much examples of this: Big Spender, Off to the races, Cola, Is it wrong, etc... Its just the only songs people know about Lana are Vg, Born to Die, bj and maybe ride, so they make a judgement only thinking of those.

A hater pretending to be a fan so he/she can bash Lana. Gtfo.

I wouldn't call her voice emotionless. Somber and a little understated perhaps, but the detached almost dead-pan quality gives gives her a different type of emotion. Vocals don't have to be loud and soaring to express something. Less is more.

Some will call lies others will say she contradicts herself when the subject is the confusion around her past. Whatever you callled something tells me Lana does it consciously. To me she is far away from being innocent on this Lana Del Rey tumblr, youtube interscope turmoil. Lana had 2 many bands, 2 many names and tried 2 hard to get "there"to be this lost soul damaged floating around (now) London town. She said it herself ïf you think I didn't plan to turn around this way..." I also think she took advvantage of the US backslash to put herself like an european type of singer and her managers are milking that all the way. If this is a critic? Not really I kind of like her more for that. I don't think is a smart move all the little lies (easy to see that are lies) she tells all the time like the creation of the Lana name or whatever but I really respect her perseverance. I find the Lana fenomenon fascinating not just because I really love Lana's muisc and videos but because of the reaction she inspires. To me part of the US critics trashing her is because she represents part of a reality that they don't wanna see. Lana was once Lizzy, Lizzy was once in a couple bands. Lizzy was once a blond girl playing guitar in gigs that have less people than a saturday party a throw with 20 minutes notice. Than Lizzy decides to become Lana. But changing the name was not really good enough the style was missing. The girl next door disapears and Lana Del Rey is born. Full make up, big hair beauty queen style combined with pumped up big lips. Looking back the music, the style of lyrics didn't change much. Not even the arrengements. What changed was the girl that owned the voice. What the critics couldn't understand is that the judgement was not only about Lana but about themselves since clearly Lizzy wasn't good enough even if the music is the same.

Her fear of the US is annoying as a fan. It just all seems so...dramatic? I mean surely she sees her chart successes here, all of the albums sales, top ten debuts, etc. I don't want to belittle the hurt that she must have felt when she got all of the backlash and bad press out here earlier this year, but it was a year ago and opinions have changed. She won't even try anymore and is sure to mention it in every interview and it's clearly just her decision. If she had her way, Paradise probably wouldn't have been released in the US, but of course Interscope wasn't having that.
I just think that her punishing the fans (no tour dates, really?!) because of the bad press she had gotten in the past is selfish and kind of childish.

it makes me sad she feels such resent towards america, her own country, where i live. if i could have five minutes with her, i'd show her that at least one fan here loves her, on behalf of so many.

kinda disappointing but I had a feeling when the demo leaked that it wouldn't.

Welcome to LANALYSIS, where we get real unhealthy in our obsessions and absolutely revel in it.

This is a project I've been maintaining for a while now--Lana + Analysis...get it? The basic purpose is to relate every one of her songs (that's right, every last one of them) to her known and assumed relationships. Not a stone is left unturned. Privacy is violated. The fans rejoice. Mind you, it’s all pure speculation, but ~this is what makes us stans~

It’s pretty long but an interesting read, if I do say so myself. I hope you enjoy it in all it’s updated glory, and I will continue to update as new information is revealed and new songs come out. I will also be adding pictures, sources, etc. Stay tuned!

    Let’s get started!

    EARLY RELATIONSHIPS (1985 - ~2005)

    LOCAL ROCKSTARS (~2005 - 2009)

YOU MADE ME NICE FOR A WHILE (2009 - 2011)

    POST-BREAKTHROUGH (2011+)

    IN THE LAND OF DISCREPANCIES

    ADVANCED LANALYSIS

    IN SUMMARY..

    Lingering questions…
    - Who the fuck is K?
    - Who the fuck is Ray?
    - Who the fuck is Bill? Is Bill really K? Does Bill matter at all?
    - What significance do cars play? She mentions eight in total (white Corvette, white Pontiac, blue Chevy Nova/Chevrolet, Cadillac convertible, Mercedes, pickup truck, Lamborghini, Bugatti Veyron)
    - When was she/who was she with in New York City and New Jersey? Ditto LA? Most mysterious and pressing, her time in the South?
    - Did she have a fling with Bradley Soileau?
    - Did Chris C. matter enough to her for her to write songs about him?

    Assumptions Made:
    - Lana was a gogo dancer.
    - K is a drug dealer/murderer, dead or on death row.
    - Jimmy is her ex-fiancé, addicted to cocaine despite a Wikipedia page stressing how healthy he is, associated with Chevrolets.
    - Much of Sirens is about completely different relationships.
    - She fucked Bradley.
    - Mike controlled her career but their relationship wasn’t associated with anything fucked up like drugs or stripping.

Thanks for reading! I crave both your feedback and theories! This remains a forum collaboration and I don't claim to have the final say on Lanalytical manners.

For the sake of believability, I'm always hunting receipts, and currently:
    - The interview where she refers to "Yayo" as the prequel to "Video Games"
    - The interview where she describes "Video Games" as dealing with mutual sobriety in a relationship--her and her partner both staying clean.
    - The interview where she talks about meeting her boyfriend in rehab and being dazzled by his small-scale celebrity.
