I do find it interesting how Charli thinks Lightning sounds like it could be off TR-honestly while it does feel like a mature continuation, it wouldn’t fit on that record album with the freestyle beats. if you placed delicious on TR it could actually fit next to Grins and Cloud Aura

Love Hanging around-can you hear the Beverly Hills influence? Also lightning reminds me of White heat by Madonna if we’re linking it to her. Otherwise it reminds me of one of the happier songs from Echo and the Bunnymen and Freestyle music.

I don’t mind autotune or vocal effects when used purposely- I think nuclear seasons and lucky are great examples for this to show emotion. I do like a lot of her projects and don’t actually know where this narrative has come from that I only like Sucker and TR. Theres people here who are vocal about only being here for the PC stuff so I don’t know why I’m exemplified for this? Regardless Crash has bops and I’m excited to see what’s next. XoXo

I mean it’s all subjective isn’t it? it’s actually one of her worst for me- The Over Tuned vocals for no reason. The bad lyricism, The Kids TV show instrumental-it doesn’t reflect any of the reasons why I like her music.

I would honestly just leave it be. you’re not going to reach anything with this neither is the other person- the non binary discussion is wide reaching and there’s a lot of societal aspects to consider- I personally don’t see why we can’t just be who we are without conforming to societal ideals and having to list ourselves as other?

I can see what you mean but come on now how is any different to Move me? I can agree Some of Charlis work is subjectively overrated to me and TR is still her best but it’s all opinion. Lana hasn’t produced a good album to me since Honeymoon and has changed from a once innovative artist to someone stuck in an LA fantasy whispering over piano. Once she changes her sound which has been stuck in since NFR we can talk. Atleast Charli innovates and makes a conscious effort to evolve.

Ooh I know what you mean, apologies if anyone thought I was doing an internet self diagnosis. I was just examining the lyrics and the character she’s portraying itself.

Even though I don’t think the Lyricism is her best-this is clearly her most personal album. It’s concept is about both breaking free from destructive tendencies and people whilst also doing this herself and the hypocrisy surrounding it. This links with the cover-is Charli Causing the Car crash as a victim or is it intentional and her own fault? it seems at times that she’s discussing borderline personality disorder almost: The symptoms of BPD can be grouped into 4 main areas: emotional instability – the psychological term for this is affective dysregulation disturbed patterns of thinking or perception – cognitive distortions or perceptual distortions impulsive behaviour intense but unstable relationships with others she even has a lyric calling herself borderline funnily enough. Twice leaves the concept open ended-is it a positive that she is ignoring the difficulties of life or is she lunging into more destructive tendencies?

Ranking:- Great- Baby Lightning Crash(length is too short though) Good- constant repeat Good ones Every Rule Move me Twice Used to Know me Okay: Beg for you Yuck Bad: New shapes overall this is a good album but not a great one and the length is problematic for its enjoyment-Songs like Constant repeat, Move me and crash are over before they get to the euphoric point.

Is the mixing why her songs are good though? I think it’s mostly Charles melodies and the producers input that does the work. Geoff doesn’t have enough dynamic range-the Lightning strike in Lightning should have been a bit louder.

I don’t see any comparison to Katy Perry nor Dua. it’s funny you say this because move me could of been fit directly on lust for life. lightning is a mix of Freestyle with aspects of the TR dark wave moments. I agree with the Lyricsm though-but that applies to every album after sucker-it became less metaphorical and more straight to the point.

Lightning belongs in Donnie Darko-the Freestyle vibe with a slight Darkwave influence is perfect.

The yuck album version is too sanitised, the demo is miles better despite some vocal compression issues.
