Lot of artists face criticism but once they prove the haters wrong it mostly stops. Let Halsey prove people wrong instead of bringing old discussion back.

I mean, I do agree the people who come on here just to attack Halsey are not correct but neither the people who respond the same way with Lana Del Rey arguments. I came here to talk about Halsey because like I said I actually got interested in her music besides my personal opinion on her as an artist.

@@KillForLove would you please point me where I defined sample for you? Thank you. I just said how the BTD samples worked on the tracks. As another user pointed, there are songs like 212 where the sample is basically the whole song. Or Old Money's melody if you want to talk about Lana. That's sample driven, not Born to Die.

Emile samples are different though. They are mostly bits of recordings used as another instrument or to add something to the song (ex. Off to the Races). There are LOTS of songs with these kinds of samples (ex. Rihanna's Cheers). I haven't listened to Easy though, so I can't give my opinion on that, but don't try to make it feel like BTD is sample driven.

Ever since I listened to New Americana I wanted to check her music out because I didn't want to judge her based on one track. Her music is catchy and it's not as bad (except that cringeworthy chorus ~ we all know which one) as I expected it, but I don't know I also have this feeling she's too manufactured. I mean, she's like the cool anti-popstar everyone on Tumblr and American Apparel where waiting for, and it's not like - for example - Lana or Marina or Lorde who brought something new to the "mainstream alternative" artists clique, she's the embodiment of everything that is ~•~cool~•~ nowadays it hurts. Also, the fact she's with Capitol, the label with the biggest puppet ever (Katy Perry) and tried to launch Sky Ferreira as the new Britney Spears... I don't know. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Anyway, I'll happily take a look at her album once it's out.

Why is a hit not important though? Also, you're making it seem like hits are always generic songs when they're not. I mean, look at Video Games. Did it hurt BTD's quality? Or Amy's Rehab. Or Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know. I personally don't like the last one, but it surely is an alternative track yet hit the mainstream without "compromising" quality and being taken seriously. Why do guys care if someone doesn't like the song like... if you like it then enjoy it and don't let other people's opinions get you mad (even more when those opinions were expressed in a way to make people mad on purpose). It's not like everyone has to like every single song she puts out.
