You have a good point. Record companies can have specific demands they want a certain artist to meet that's strictly within their genre. Do people honestly think Interscope would let Lana (an alt pop artist) make a heavy metal album if she wanted to? Nope.

Cruel World and Heroin are two amazing songs in their own way. Lemme explain: Cruel World Pros: - The guitar makes the song what it is (for me) - It sounds dreamy and psychedelic - The lyrics are fun and cool - It's a song you can listen to whenever you feel like it - It's a fan favorite Cons: - It drags on for way too long - She repeats the lyrics over when she could have filled in the melody with different verses ------------------------ Heroin Pros: - The production is soft and calming - The structure during the bridge shifts dramatically when she sings "It's fucking hot, hot,..." - You can hear a lot of emotion in Lana's voice - The lyrics are amazing and well thought out - Also seems to be a fan favorite Cons: - Personally I find I have to be in a specific mood to listen to it - It's not getting a music video

All I know is that Cruel World goes on for way too long. That's all I'm saying.

Hmm I think the acoustic Insta version had lots of potentional. Maybe if she changed a few notes it could have succeeded. But it's the cheap trap beats in the studio song that ruins it completely, the song could have gotten away without a beat.
