Especially with her saying “you’re a family man, but, but…” it makes me think of Sean possibly stringing her along while he was engaged. He would claim he cares about family and seemed to have at one point promised her a family of their own and yet… I’m coming back to this to say maybe the “hard stuff” she’s mentioning in the second verse includes her letting go of this relationship because it’s what spurred her to look into her family history and now she’s learned what she needs to. She’s left the relationship in the past for her family line.

Her delivery of it sounds sarcastic with the emphasis of “for once”. Ideally you would dance with good news but the way she says it makes it sound like this person has said this before (about them having a chance) and it’s an empty promise.
