A similar thing happened to me as well, with 6 other people in the room not paying attention. You'd think your first instinct would be to yell and swat them off and fight, but it's just not. Men especially have a hard time understanding this because they think differently than we do. (Not saying a man wouldn't react the same way in this situation).

I don't know if you read the actual account. But Melanie did not "flirt her way" to intercourse. She coerced Timothy who repeated again and again that she didn't want to, made excuses to turn Melanie away. She was not sexually interested in Melanie and has reiterated that. This was not a flirtatious fling. Melanie took advantage of her unwilling friend. What you're doing right now is called victim blaming. When I entered college I had to go through sexual assault and consent seminar, maybe some of you guys should look into that

When you're being assaulted you can go into a state of shock and be unresponsive, and she stated that she just wanted it all to be over so she didn't try to fight Melanie off. Yes there's more she could have done to prevent Melanie from taking things a step further but when someone is being attacked there isn't a "correct" response. Sexual assault is a more nuanced topic than it appears. It's not always "I said no, fought the attacker off, tried to get away." Especially when it's between friends like this was.

For all the rape apologists in this thread: Melanie is not denying anything. So you sounded stupid. Melanie's statement is possibly the worst she could have made. It's bitter and condescending and just makes it easier to believe that Melanie was manipulative towards Timothy. I mean, "sending love and light her way?" Gorl she's accusing you of rape. It just seems like she got caught but won't take responsibility for poor actions

She also has a history of nasty behavior, the iconic "excuse me I'm talking" incident (which the way she handled it was not the best but it's debatable whether she was wrong), being rude to Christina on The Voice and disregarding/being rude to fans

I'm not sure that Melanie will comment...what will she say? "Yeah I performed sex acts on my very obviously unwilling friend?" Unless she's going to deny everything, then this will likely be messy and prolonged and Timothy may come out with additional statements.

Timothy has a band called Dresses which actually opened for Melanie, but it's not a very big band. Her career could be nipped in the bud by making a false allegation on purpose. There's literally no reason for her to be lying about this situation

Imagine how many women have had their lives ruined by being raped........ It's a lot more than the amount of false accusations. That's a misogynistic thing to say, maybe you should do some reevaluating, talk to some survivors. Rape apologism isn't a good look.

I'm not a PI. But I am a woman. And I have friends, family members, etc who have gone through sexual assault. When you're a woman, you're familiar with these things bc this is our reality. And the majority of rapes happen between people who knew each other. So yeah, I'm not a PI. But this is information we've learned to protect ourselves since we were young.

(Also guys, the incessant begging for proof and being met with shame and skepticism is why victims do not come forward. Keep that in mind.)

Please understand that in literally any case of rape whether its between a man and woman, woman and woman, etc. it is extremely hard to find proof. The only time there is real hard evidence is if a rape kit is done and there is DNA found on the victim, and even then it's not an immediate sentence. But when you think about people's attitudes towards this topic and how widespread the problem really is, it's more likely Timothy is telling the truth than she's lying. The statement by Timothy seemed honest to me. There's a time, place and description of what exactly was done. There's no reason to believe she has any motive to ruin Melanie's career It's hard to believe anyone would do this, but you just never know.
