our monthly communal hate on critics seems to be back in session

if she made coachella acoustic and dropped WM, IMF, SB, and honestly prob even WAW she might've gotten a lot better reviews from critics a big complaint was that there was too many songs, they all praised the first few and the last 3-5 songs but around early middle is where it got hella fatty obv the more songs she makes the better for us, but from a critic standpoint lorde basically has 9, some kinda mediocre but she's up for AOTY. When you have like 5 great songs and four whatever it makes the album seem soooo much higher in quality and content and value than if you had 7-8 really good-great songs, 2-4 okay to good songs, and then however many which are either sub par, don't fit, should've been standalone singles, or simply didn't reach their potential? it makes the album look worse. but lbr none of that matters and lana could do a chris brown and drop a >2 1/2hr album and we'd treat it album of the century also lets not forget decent promo and transparency would've also hyped up lust for life, lana. remember when we all gagged at the idea of LfL being her radio come back (even her team thought it could've been...then never pushed it ) or how Cherry is easily the poster child for bops in her discog, and yet isn't a single yet

i like the vocals a lot better and the feature fits ngl i wasn't expecting anything new just by the name but still having it be an alt mix was weird at first, love both versions a lott. i like how spacy n echo-y the album one is and i love how bare bones and sharp this one is i jus dkkk

i remember listening to Swan Song for the first time, it was my favorite off of the entire record- it's still like #5/6 but i remember when i heard the bridge and the "do you like where you've been and where you're going to" i jus about broke like who the fuck gave her the RIGHT to make me question my life on such short notice n bitch i questioned it the entire time i was listening through it again

the strings are so dramatic and heavy and lush and loud it's like the antithesis to Honeymoon's strings also this just rekindled my desire for that summertime sadness alt version god fucking damnit i eased myself off of that SS is in my middle section for songs i love off of BtD but that version would easily be top 4 afaik think of it as one of the pieces to an instrumental, there's many stems so like for BtD theoretically you have her voice, the backing vocals, the strings, the drums, etc. all of those pieced together would be the full song- the stems are the individual pieces that make it up (iirc dont murder me but thts prob right)

im not sure abt the first line but i feel like she reeeaaallllyyyy kinda comitted to things that aren't gonna always be her strong suit or what she should be doing. By picking her smiling on the cover, every interviewer asked about that as a big note, to the positivity from Love, Lust For Life, Groupie Love, Change, Get Free etc. If she goes back to anything like BtD or UV she'll be seen as a fraud and rehashing her old material- and with her doing political songs, if she doesn't keep at least 1 or 2 shes gonna be called a shill and fake ally, only caring about politics when it could sell. it kinda backed her into a legit corner lmao
