Lana to release new song "Henry, Come On" with Luke Laird
Future Jazz replied to Elle's topic in New Releases
it takes 6 months for an album to come out from the moment it’s finished and it’s far from being finished as of now so 2026 wouldn’t surprise me at all very late 2025 at the very least, which kind of is 2 years from january 2024 love her though -
imo there’s no way we’re getting the album in spring. it takes 6 months to release an album from the moment it’s done because of mastering and pressing vinyls. if the album came out next spring, it would have to have already been finished by now, which is definitely not the case she said pretty much the same thing late october as she did mid-august (about not being sure where the album was going). before she even masters the album, she’s going to have to figure out where it’s going, then write and produce the songs, then she might rework them as she always does… not to mention she’s pretty busy with her private life. i would be surprised if the album was completed within 6 months from now. and then it takes another 6 months to master/press it. i’m sorry guys there is literally no way it’s coming before late 2025, it’s impossible given the state of the album atm and how long it takes to master it and press vinyls. and we’ve never gotten anything in advance with lana, it’s usually the other way around expecting the album before late 2025 is setting oneself up for disappointment but i feel you and i wish she would’ve just released the album she announced a year ago

Lana to release new song "Henry, Come On" with Luke Laird

the fact that we might get it literally two years after she posted the snippet -
i don’t think that’s possible because she mentioned being in a bit of an energetic break last week, when she was at that event. she also said the same thing as in that interview from mid-august (that she didn’t really know where the album was going but didn’t recognize herself in the country element anymore and needed a bit of a break). so it doesn’t feel like she “made progress” (and i’m not saying that she needs to!) in the last couple of months, which is not surprising because she got married lmao. but i think the album is very far from being done; it’s not just that she knows where she’s going and wants to put it into practice, it’s that she doesn’t even really know where she’s going (and she might want to rework stuff again once it’s done) the other day someone compared her interview that was made in august with the one for V Magazine in early 2022, saying that it sounded like she was at the same point in the creative process as she was back then. we ended up getting ocean blvd one year after that interview (and that was the smoothest rollout since honeymoon) but at least now we know where her head’s at after months of silence i think we’ve spent enough time waiting for lasso this year and we might as well expect nothing until late 2025
-
it took 6 months between the moment the last song on ocean blvd was recorded and the moment the album came out, because it’s so long to master the whole thing and to press vinyls and stuff. she literally said a few days ago she didn’t know where it was going… we’re not getting this album until late 2025 at the very least. given her uncertainty + the fact that she’s quite busy with her private life (as she should), i’d actually be surprised if the recording process and production were finished in the next few months. and then there’s the usual 6 months for mastering and pressing vinyls. so if she does drop a single soonish, it’ll be a long wait till the album

if i remember correctly, black out zone has said she scrapped many piano ballads that were intended for the record in like may-june 2021
-
yes, as i had every right to. songs are getting scrapped, i’m not happy about it because i was interested in them and they were done and announced. i don’t know how that can be controversial. just because lana makes a choice doesn’t mean everybody has to be 100% happy about it, especially when such choices have led to disappointment in the past. i’m not forcing anyone to be unhappy about her choice, as i said, i’m happy for the vast majority who’s happy she’s scrapping the country stuff. i’m not getting confrontational, you’re twisting it. you’re telling me things like “source?”, “sheesh.”, “let’s chill.”, and it should be nice and okay because you blew me a kiss? i don’t need to be “set straight” either. i don’t care to be spoken to like that, so if you have a problem with me addressing it, you should simply stop using those phrases which are just condescending.

if she had what was almost a full album in February (which i'm guessing is true, since she announced it which means it was nearing completion, and since she said it had been in the making for 4 years), and if she doesn't like it anymore, it seems to me she's going to get rid of most of what she had. she's definitely going to keep some songs but scrap some others to replace them with others. i agree it's not exactly clear to what extent she's just going to rework the songs she already has, but the way she worded stuff the other day makes me think that she doesn't even know in which direction she wants to go yet, so i think she has the intention to write completely new stuff, which means that part or most of what was intended for release originally is indeed getting scrapped. it's also what happened with lust for life and blue banisters whose final versions aren't technically adored by the fandom. i'd say there's a lot of discussion about the original lust for life and the original rock candy sweet, which she ended up mostly scrapping in favor of something that isn't deemed her greatest work. so i'm excited for southern gothic but i don't think we should take it for granted that any reworking she does is necessarily for the better. i'm happy for the majority of people who are happy we're not getting a country album though and i know you might not mean it like that but imo it's already quite unpleasant to say stuff like "source?"
-
i'm not saying she owes us anything. there's a difference between wanting to force her to release stuff or whatever and saying i think it would've been a good idea to put out what she had and what she and her collaborators were confident in, instead of mostly scrapping it. i don't really mind the delay, although i think we must be realistic about it not coming in the next 12 months, but i'm quite sad stuff like henry come on is getting scrapped, that's it. and once more, that's just my opinion, so this tone you have is very much unasked for
-
i'm definitely not suggesting quitting or giving up, rather putting out the stuff that's been in the making for 4 years and that was said to be brilliant by Jack. i'm not indifferent to this stuff being scrapped forever. as i said, i know the final result will be great, i just think the stuff that's getting shelved was likely to be great too and that "half-baked" or "half-cooked" isn't quite the right word to describe something that had been in the making for 4 years if she's not sure where it's going and wants to change the direction, which is what she said a couple of days ago, i think it's unrealistic to think it's coming within the next 12 months. she made it clear she isn't sure where it's going, which means most of the songs aren't written yet, then they're going to get reworked, they'll have to master the whole thing, and then there's the usual 4-5 months of pressing vinyls. take ocean blvd, it took six months between the time the last song on it was recorded and the time it came out given what she said the other day (not knowing where it was even going), i don't think it can come out before at least september 2025, so yeah to be honest i kind of wish she had just put out whatever was already ready a couple of months ago. that's only my opinion though, and i'm sure the album will be great in any case !

this might be an unpopular opinion, but i'm a believer in just putting out the songs you have, maybe as an EP if there are not enough songs that are good enough. I personally thought Henry Come On sounded magnificent and i can definitely see her version of country having this folksy, delicate sound that i think is extremely moving. her cover of take me home, country roads also had it, it was never going to be yeehaw country, it was going to be melodic as she said. and regardless of how people were going to like it, it was going to be interesting to see her attempt at yet another genre. so while i do agree that it is exciting to see her go down the southern gothic road, i can't say i'm not disappointed that stuff that not only exists and was said to be brilliant by Lana and Jack but was also announced, and that i cared about, is definitely getting shelved and we have to wait like 2 years between her announcement and the album. there's nothing preventing her from putting out those songs that have been in the making since 2021 (!) and moving on to southern gothic for her next project. ocean blvd was already finalized 2 years ago now, and part of lasso apparently was even made before that, so i'm just not a huge fan of the idea of all of that existing work being scrapped. like, those songs exist, they are probably great, we were going to get them and now we're not. so just because she's heading towards southern gothic, which i agree is an interesting direction, doesn't mean there wasn't something great we're losing anyway, she's the one in charge and of course she has every right to do anything she's doing (and to always delay stuff) but i'm not indifferent to the stuff that's getting scrapped and i don't think you can chalk it up to "the final project that's gonna come in 2 years will be good so it's all fine"

in Paris and Barcelona people were still sort of fixing the details of the stage 10 mins before the show was supposed to start, yet she was 25 mins late at both and no one was to be seen on the stage for that whole time! she definitely has a problem with being on time. that being said, i think the performances this year have been very good. there has been a major improvement from 2018/2019 and even 2023 when it comes to backing vocals, and vocals overall… she has been so beautiful, she has been speaking to the audience a lot, i truly think shows like the ones in Barcelona or Paris, which i was lucky enough to attend, were among her best performances ever! there’s a problem with being on time but other than that, this has been a great tour - then again, experiencing it live makes everything better and mostly makes the tracklist work a whole lot better, because each song comes with so many emotions you don’t get watching a video -

i do agree she looks a bit annoyed or tired tonight, she gave warmer vibes in barcelona/porto and even in paris the other day, also her not singing part of cherry's verses felt so weird for some reason, like a glitch lmao ride is beautiful though! -

without you live is insanely better than the studio version, there's so much energy in it, i love the variations she does on the original melody omg it's just such a good opener -

i was there and she was literally perfect. saw her live twice this year and her vocals really are her best ever. her aura is truly indescribable. before i saw her live i’d also complain about the setlist but it is really great as it is, the experience is so good when you live it that you don’t really think about the fact that the setlist is tired. other than that, it was a tough day: on top of her being 25 mins late, we got almost zero water from security although they made us empty our bottles before coming in. in Barcelona they would give thousands of water bottles for front row people to pass the others. security couldn’t spot people who were fainting so lana and the other singers before had to do it for them. also so many people in the crowd were pushing others and sneaking their way into the rows that were near the stage, as if there were a reason why they and not others would have the right to do so part of the crowd was really, really irritating. kinda sad for the barricade people as she didn’t come down at the end, but her show was perfect, there were so many emotions in each note -

i think it’s a shame we had too much time to overplay the snippets and the live performance but it’s such a good song, so unheard of for her, a million times warmer, more surprising and more personal than summer bummer and doin time in my opinion. so glad we got this!! -
