  1. I feel the same way. I do love the fake beauty queen feel (which to me is very 2010/2011 Lana/makes sense these where taken in 2011 lol) that Nicole's photos have. I'd much rather have outtakes from neil or chuck.

I personally think Nicole was perfect for 2010-2013 Lana, what with the whole gangsta persona, but Chuck and Neil truly capture the mature Lana we currently know, and I feel like it’s going to be that way for awhile, but I really think that Nicole was perfect for those earlier years in Lana’s career

  2. I listened to the entirety of Honeymoon last night with surround sound, noise cancelling ear-muff style headphones and I actually heard so many things that I forgot about when I would normally listen to it on vinyl or standard earbuds.

The production is so articulate and truly her best, there are some hidden details that you will miss if you're listening with earbuds. Her vocals are absolutely phenomenal.

I just love Honeymoon so much, it truly is, in my opinion, her best work.

  3. The LFL era has felt entirely wayyyyy too long; I'm getting bored of it...

the dumb leakers had to make it start in February with Love...

    so much potential

and the vintage 60s vibes from Woodstock and Daisy's from the cover & Lana wears addidas and tshirts at shows... ugh I'm falling asleep. Honestly disappointed; I hope the tour serves some looks and actual excitement in her performance

I hope she serves looks similar to the album cover aesthetic/2016 festival tour. I feel like other than Love, that 60's Woodstock vintage hippie look got snubbed for this era lol

  4. Can we all agree that Heroin, Change and Get Free SHOULD belong at the end of the record?

I see some people saying that Heroin should be in the first half of the album, and I personally think the tracklist works really well, sonically and thematically.

We have Love, LFL, and 13 Beaches at the start, which are quite different but wouldn't really belong anywhere else.

Then we have the "fiery bops" which start with Cherry and end at IMF. Sonically, they're very contemporary and fun, upbeat songs.

Coachella is the bridge from bops to political songs, while having boppy production and somewhat political related lyrics.

Then we have political songs from GBA - BPBP

TNC is another fun love song, but sonically, it wouldn't work before Coachella, nor would it fit anywhere within Cherry - IMF, so it's placement is perfect, esp after BPBP with Stevie.

Then the last 3 tracks document Lana's growth and journey as a human being, so those are perfect.

Heroin is Lana hoping to change and describing what went wrong with her life.

Change is Lana anticipating this change.

Get Free is Lana manifesting her hopeful words into an actual change.

  5. the blackest day is undoubtedly a song that was leftover from UV,

also its not just the whole song as is, its also when the songs were written and what they were originally intended for.

as were most of the songs with UV before it gained its sound

That’s true. TBD really sounds like a pre-Auerbach version

I personally think that the songs on HM weren't meant for UV, but she probably started writing a lot of them while she was mixing UV with Dan.

Maybe she intended to use the songs for that re-release for UV, and she even mentioned MWTBT as a potential album title, but thematically, a lot of the songs on HM (other than the title track and The Blackest Day maybe) don't sound like something that would go on UV, or even a re-release.

That's just my opinion, though :)

  6. Love - 10/10In my opinion, this is the perfect way to start the record, and I love the message and global feeling it has.

Lust for Life (feat. The Weeknd) - 8/10 - the sentiment is very cute, and I like how Shangri-La's inspired it is. It sounds a lot like young, starry love, which I think is a reflection of the themes discussed in the track before it.

13 Beaches - 9/10 - This song has so much imagery within it, as well as cool satellite effects and an overall pensive/classic Lana vibe. Reminds me of TLY with more drums.

Cherry - 10/10 - This song is classic Lana - it's a bop and sonically, the chaotic atmosphere of it conveys the lyrics.

White Mustang - 7/10 - I like this song, it's very short however, but still ultimately sweet, despite it's repetitiveness.

Summer Bummer (feat. A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti) - 8/10 - I like this song.

Groupie Love - 10/10 - This track feels so right, it's so hazy and dreamy, and Lana's vocals sound absolutely pristine on it.

In My Feelings - 8/10 - Very "current" and "trendy" in sound, but still feels like Lana.

Coachella - Woodstock in My Mind - 9/10 - A very important song within the record, in my opinion. It bridges the gap between classic Lana bops and the new, socially aware, politically charged, self-aware, pensive Lana tracks that sound folky and smoky. I love the lyrics and the sentiment, and the bridge is amazing.

God Bless America - And All the Beautiful Women in It - 7/10 - I like the song, especially the bridge and pre-choruses.

When the World Was at War We Kept Dancing - 8/10 -a masterpiece. I think the song could sound a lot more moving without the use of trap beats but I like the cool effect they give. Lyrically, it's very reminiscent of WWII, and I like how the main message is centred around how hope is not all lost.

Beautiful People Beautiful Problems (feat. Stevie Nicks) - 9/10 Great track, love the vibe and the reference to blue-collared workers. It's a more subtly political track, but Lana + Stevie = bliss.

Tomorrow Never Came (feat. Sean Ono Lennon) - 10/10 - I love how folky it is, I think that's one of the genres Lana knows how to do best. The lyrics represent a cute love story, and the Beatles vibe is done quite well, while retaining Lana's aesthetic.

Heroin - 10/10 - My favourite song on the whole record. No words can be said to describe how much this song really resonates with a listener, it's definitely one of Lana's most personal/introspective songs.

Change - 10/10Another song that has a similar role within the album and impact as Heroin. It's very chilling and barebones, and it's both somewhere Lana has gone before, and something new.

Get Free - 10/10-  One of the most important songs on the record - it's basically a summary of what Lust for Life as an album symbolizes for Lana, and ties the whole record together.

    Album average score: 89.375/100

  8. @lanadelrey “I feel like Honeymoon was the record that really allowed Lana to be herself and was a platform through which she could communicate her internal struggle of the whole persona of Lana Del Rey versus Elizabeth Woolridge Grant. The lyrical parallels in some songs (HBTB and PMIAM from AKA) and themes from songs like GKIT and Swan Song really show this struggle I feel.“

Do you mind elaborating the “Lana Del Rey versus Lizzy“ part?

I recall @graham4anything mentioning at least a similar theory.

I recall Lana talking about how time was a central theme throughout the record. That feeling of timelessness and what one's interpretation of timelessness reveals about their own self is what I personally view as an overarching theme throughout the record.

The whole record contains this feeling of time, both moving backwards and forwards. Both melodically and sonically. Burnt Norton in particular illustrates this lyrical idea of certain events and mindsets of different times coexisting in the past, present, and future. I feel like this was included as the interlude of the record because it almost serves as a metaphor for that gap between who Lizzy was/is and who Lana Del Rey is calculated to be. There are parts of Lizzy that exist within Lana and there are parts of Lana that were part of Lizzy even before Lana was calculated. What also leads me to believe this is something Lana said from the Billboard 2015 interview: Lana referred to herself as "her" rather than "I," saying that she's "protective of her - Lana..." Lana also stated this year that she did view "Lana Del Rey" as more of a persona than herself.  Also, in early 2015, Lana changed her Instagram icon to a picture of Lizzy. In terms of the sonic aspect, there is a lot of recycling of various sounds and the inverting of various instrumental sequences throughout songs. For example, the drums at the end of Religion slow down into nothingness, which almost sounds like time stopping. In HBTB, the last "high" sequences are later used for the Swan Song intro. Salvatore features a laugh that sounds both played forward and in reverse (it is more prominent in the instrumental rather than the actual album track). I feel like time is a metaphor for Lana versus Lizzy, and timelessness refers to parts of Elizabeth Woolridge Grant that exist in all versions of herself.

Of course, there are also some songs that deal with Lana versus Lizzy, like Swan Song, where she asks both her man and herself if everything they're doing is really worth it, perhaps the theme of freedom in the song is letting go of who Lana Del Rey is ("I will never sing again" is quite open to interpretation but definitely fits this). God Knows I Tried also deals with escaping fame and feeling free. In fact, the whole record is called Honeymoon. A honeymoon is something that is to be enjoyed without any stress, and it is meant to be done in a fashion that ensures the privacy and relaxation of one. The privacy aspect is key to Lana versus Lizzy, because Lana is probably not the coolly detached, stiletto-nailed, false-eyelash batting Lana Del Rey when she's on her own time, at least not at the time of the journeys chronicled in Honeymoon. Honeymoon is the bridge between that persona of Lana from Born to Die, Paradise, and Ultraviolence, to the more grounded, aware of the real world Lana that is present in Lust for Life.

I could go on, but I would take forever. Honeymoon is an album that has a lot beyond it's surface and I have so much to say about it. I don't know if what I wrote was what you were looking for, but I hope it was! :)

  9. Swan Song really speaks to me, especially these particular lines:

"The world can change in a day if you go away"

"Why work so hard when you can just be free?"

"Do you like where you've been and where you're going to?"

She really said it clear for me.

  10. I feel like Honeymoon was the record that really allowed Lana to be herself and was a platform through which she could communicate her internal struggle of the whole persona of Lana Del Rey versus Elizabeth Woolridge Grant. The lyrical parallels in some songs (HBTB and PMIAM from AKA) and themes from songs like GKIT and Swan Song really show this struggle I feel.

The whole record deals with themes of escapism and voyeurism, feeling like you're being watched, and living out fantasies of your own downtime and freedom. The visuals for this era also convey this, what with the whole Starline tours bus - showing Lana, a star herself, literally surrounded in a world of stars, but the obvious factor is that these kinds of Hollywood tours are for the average person, which I think subtly but brilliantly shows the way in which Lana both objectively and personally views herself.

I think out of all her discography, Honeymoon is THE record that she probably let the most go with; she really seemed like she was having a lot of fun with the whole process of creating it and the lyrics are more a tool for imagery rather than narrative, which paints a beautiful picture for the listener. It truly is a shame that it is so under-appreciated by her fanbase.

I think the main encompassing feeling and vibe throughout the record is Lana's interpretation of jazz and timelessness, and what the definition of timelessness is, sonically speaking.

It's so soft and lush too. Someone else said it in another thread, and I completely agree with them - there are so many layers to it, you're definitely going to continue to discover different sounds and instruments the more you listen to the songs and even the instrumentals.

I just love Honeymoon so much - it's my favourite Lana album.

  11. Also Cherry is a short song (like Blue Velvet) AND (although this is a reach) Gucci have shoes with Cherries on them:

Could this have possibly been a clue?

Yes! And cherries have been a prominent part of this era's aesthetic - back in July on the Honeymoon account, there was a video of the tracklist with a cherry on it, as well as the Cherry earrings at Liverpool, the new Cherry merch, and of course the song!

Ikr? It's very much so possible.

Yesterday, on Chuck's instagram story, she was with a kitten and a camera in Lana's house, presumably filming scenes, and today, she's in fancy 2012 classic Lana makeup and bejewelled clothes! A Cherry video within a Gucci campaign could be well on it's way, I hope!

Chuck also previously did a Gucci campaign with BØRNS and we all know much Lana has been wearing Gucci this year at events etc., so that makes it even more likely!
