always liked coachella, liked it when it got released while yall were still bitching about it but the production...
when it was said that the song wouldn't be on the album i was like ''yea ok just a cute song about current events which she just wanted to be out there or whatever'' but while listening to it on the album i always feel like it could have been so much better and not so... cheap

i'm familiar with men, i know a lot of them

same, i was going to post some shade at playboy and i have no interest in them, but it's nice to know trans women are starting to become more prominent in mainstream culture and this is perhaps one of the first steps for that to happen. But I can understand someone with more of a radical ideology who believes playboy shouldn't nowhere to be near this kind of inclusive movement and that perhaps these people's motives are tainted, people fetishize black people too, and still to this day, because there's a "default" in their mind and that's white, cis, and skinny or what not ... I don't regard this as a beacon of transgender rights but is it going to help trans women access more of these tricky jobs if they want that? (calendars, magazines de charme, i don't know about it but there must be a fetish industry??) maybe. i think that something is happening and that's nice to know

2017 has some good releases but as a whole I think 2016 is stronger. While some of my favorite artists dropped stuff this year (LfL, CTRL, Kelela's album was great, I like Melodrama n i dont dislike all of hfk)- in addition to albums like DAMN. Rainbow and Reputation which are all going to be iconic releases for their respective artists just think back on 2016 for a second

i know a few users aren't into to more RnB or hiphop style music or jus non-white non-alt music in general  but 2016 imo was 10x stronger in releases

I wasn't slandering Adele. I can understand that some (dull) people enjoy her music. I was just saying that it's not fair to give 15 Grammys to a single artist when there are so many other hard-working musicians who deserve some recognision and respect.

  6. HollywoodHills liked a post in a topic by LaMartine in Lana and the Harvey Weinstein Controversy
I feel very weird about this because Lana of course can do whatever she wants in her life and I don't want to preach @@her, especially since it's just now that i've heard about weinstein's doings but i know she has a knack for getting herself into dangerous situations, especially with men. So imagining her and harvey makes my blood freeze, even tho it shouldn't be my business.

He was clearly a huge admirer of her in 2012, I can only hope he kept his lecherousness for himself. At least we know she went off making an album with a much different sound (so we know she wasn't trying to surf on the craze around btd/pe/ss remix vibes) and didn't consider going for a career in acting or movies. So maybe that suggests she took some distance from all that?

I don't want this to have happened, who knows....

    absolutely

this is all trivial but the first time i listened to the digital album after buying it was outside (i still stream it), i was sitting at this bench with a lovely soft wind in the air and heroin started i was in love, it was perfect

the whole album sounds better when outside, especially next to water

tbh when i try to sing along to some of these songs i want to tear up a bit, not really from sadness but from being emotional

especially 13 beaches (and those strings literally pull my heart and when the drums come after, well that's magical) and heroin (the"oh my god" and "oh oh oh oh" really really get me, they remind me of some folcloric moroccan music one of my friends listens to)

    tea !

i think divide as an actual album is extremely mediocre..but knowing their obsession with Ed it's a guaranteed

honestly Lana could probably win AOTY-Alt if they submitted to that section, Lorde is too big and commercial to not place Pop rather than Alt and Lana has factually been the biggest Alt release all year. honestly dont fucking know why she didnt give to Alt it's genuinely confuses me

mostly because there's like a good 6/16 tracks that even resemble 'pop'

    LfL
    Cherry
    WM
    Summer Bummer
    Groupie Love
    and In My Feelings

Grammys will snub Lana again and spoil mediocre artists like Ed Sheeran

But she should've been submitted for best alt. album smh

over Melodrama ? DAMN. ? 4:44 ? Divide ? CTRL ? I want LfL for AOTY as much as any stan does but with how Ed is loved and Lorde is pushed I wouldn't be surprised if they came out on top. DAMN. deserves recognition because lbr at this point Kendrick deserves a win for AOTY after producing 3 incredible and significant albums in a row.

And with Reputation coming out I wouldn't be surprised if Taylor grabbed any last minute nominations- especially if she's eligible for AOTY

and lets not forget Bodak Yellow which will be a predicted front runner for SOTY along with Shape of You and Despacito; all 3 horrible tracks, I'd be surprised if she's even nominated with how many bigger songs there are to compete with

let me break down some reasons as to why I love it personally

in terms of the placement, it makes all the difference- it starts off the final three tracks, all revolving around the idea of change. i see it as Heroin being the admission to the problem, she recognizes she needs to change; Change being the motivation, the desire to go- and Get Free taking the torch of desire and carrying it to a promise and commitment to herself & her surroundings.  i love how cold and hollow it sounds, it reminds me of the aftereffects of a heavy emotional scenario in which you or the person that just got off the episode is dying down, cooling off, fairly numb to their senses.  the lyrics are great, not saying LfL is bad lyrically but i personally didn't see many similar stanzas throughout LfL with previous work until Heroin (Love fits too just not sonically). the verses are written so, so nice. the 'Topanga's hot tonight, the city- by the bay. has movie stars and liquor stores in soft decay' the melody works great. plus the amount of one liners that are incredible that hit hard not only in the way its written- but sung.  "I want to leave I'll probably stay another year" to me is a perfect representation of depression, i dont want to be depressed- i want to be happy, but it doesnt seem plausible nor realistic so ill just stay in my current situation no matter how low it'll take me. "The Rumblin of distant shores sends me to sleep-but, the facts of life can sometimes make it hard to dream" same with above, it reminds me so heavily of my anxieties that can keep me up in the night, no matter how serene and perfect the place you're in physically- your mental state will forever force priority over your emotions. both Heroin and Cruel World play with her usual aesthetic- but i find Heroin to be more mature, purely in the sense that it uses her natural imagery without sounding like her previous work or relying on her buzzwords- 'party dress' is the easiest comparison. Heroin stays with her vintage starlets and alcohol and drugs whereas CW sounds a little more juvenile in her work, but thats purely because she was coming off of BtD- but extremely depressed, not having fully rinsed her stereotypical lyrics. with how cold and icy the song sounds and feels, it makes the explosive bridge that much more powerful- having her sing quietly and softly and then yelling loudly is a huge wake up- it's emotional, the notes are shifty- she swears, it's the perfect emotional breakdown. she's leaving what she knows is holding her back-
those are just a few reasons why i love Heroin- def not all but it's a big representation as to why i personally love and relate to it, much more so than Cruel World. Cruel World is a good song, i have general distaste for it mostly due to the countless live performances, but I can guarantee people love it a LOT more just because its on Ultraviolence. Most songs on there that would normally go for mediocre are boosted, just because it has UV instrumentals and was a part of the era.
