  1. The Hard To Love snippet sounds so cute
  2. I just woke up and for some reason the first verses of sticky "cause I be freaky freaky, walks on the beaches pussy platinum squeaky squeaky ohh" are stuck in my head... so random
  3. banned, no negativity in this thread thanks Mess @ the superiority complex in this comment. I don't mean to be contentious but this just isn't true. The "GP" aren't told what to listen to. Trends are trends and trendy songs from hype artists get promoted. Some people like trap, and to say they're pretty much stupid for doing so is kinda cunty and uncalled for. This sounds like such a sophie-stan thing to say. This reminds me of how stan twitter (which has grown and spilled over into basically the whole internet now so it's nothing special) likes to pretend that they're in on something and everyone else (the locals) are inferior. It's like cult mentality I don't know about that. Ariana was on Broadway in 2008, Nickelodeon from 2010 to 2014, and then signed to UMG/Republic in 2015. She was clearly a label priority from the start, and her career has been full of Max Martin singles as a result. All the cards were stacked in her favor for pop stardom, not to mention her vocal skills are way beyond Charli's. Ariana's promoted the way she is because she's probably like the crown jewel at Republic. This is just my assessment. I'm by no means knowledgeable enough to act like I know things for sure, but I don't think Charli and Ariana can be compared. They're very different. Charli definitely deserves more success though.
  4. When you guys were talking about XCX3 and the music industry it kinda depressed me so here are my thoughts/emotions/summarizations: Charli can't do it all on her own and it definitely doesn't look like she's on a major record label with the scant amount of promo she's been getting. She's working so hard (to the point of nearly crying in an interview) and she's getting paid dust. The whole XCX3 situation still stings, especially because the songs feel so nostalgic now, and I daydream that they're a part of her proper discography. She even did the 3-months-sober/green juice diet which, to me, means that she really had her head in the game. It also creepily reminds me of how, before Kesha's career went into limbo, and before we knew she battled an eating disorder, her team was tried to coax her into losing weight for the next album. Like, okay, let's go with the idea that Atlantic saw big things for XCX3 (which is complimentary to Charli I guess) and the leaked version of XCX3 wasn't what they had in mind... couldn't they just let it do it's thing with mild promo in late 2016/early 2017 when pop still had a foot in the door?? It feels like Atlantic played her and she's the one who ended up paying the price by watching her music (which is her livelihood) go to waste, when the messy album rollout wasn't even her fault. Nor was the fact that she couldn't be totally transparent. She let some frustration slip but it felt like she had to be tightlipped, which is out of character. I don't meant sound haughty or music critic-y in this bit, but it feels like she fell behind while being SO ahead of everyone else in pop, maybe even the whole music industry. Charli has it all: the voice, the melodies, the hooks, the lyrics, and the looks. Seriously, who tf else can do what she does the way she does it?? She's a great recording artist AND a great songwriter. She has such a great ear for pop. She should be thriving, not scraping by. I'm not talking about main pop girl worldwide superstar status, but I just hate feeling like she's already had her time with Sucker, especially because she wasn't even happy in that era and has SO much more to offer. In an alternate reality, XCX3 would've been a total knockout with critics and the GP, and it would've been a polished, fully realized version of Charli's vision. It would've been everything she wanted, but instead it all went up in flames, the ruins are scattered all over the internet, and it feels like we're talking about the lost city of Atlantis or something. Maybe I'm way in over my head, but I'm rooting for her to get the chance to put out a fully fleshed out, immaculate, authentic, uncompromised album. If the final montly drop is CTMP with a music video, I really do hope everything pans out.
  5. Azealia sacrificed a bunch of chickens to get Charli to follow her again
  6. So you're gonna mention the un-autotuned Delicious, tell us the full version of White Mercedes is trash, mention album booklet pics, and not share anything? Stop playing games
  7. "studio snippets" + why did the HGHB remake sound like a 2008 Nokia Ringtone that annoys tf out of anyone within 20 feet when it goes off?
  8. I think we can all agree that Taxi and TKO are sisters. Taxi is the heartbreaker in heels and TKO is the polished yet scrappy sister who's always down for a fight
  9. the ghetto That's not an angel, that's a spy that was planted by Atlantic to sabotage Charli and make her not want to keep a Max Martin song for herself...
  10. Charlilist: Missed Connections
  11. Does anyone have the fan rework of Hot N' Cold? The official version just came on shuffle and then I remembered that someone on SoundCloud (I think) had uploaded it with their own mixing. It was SO good but apparently I forgot to download it
  12. ok but it's not ugly pop 2 era autotune
  13. Decent? Boys has a range of like 4 notes for the majority of the song, so it'd be hard to not sound decent, especially when the mic is autotuned (it sounded like it was). I think Camila uses a tuned mic as well (from the couple TV performances I've seen), but Camila actually keeps a consistent tone, which Charli doesn't. It's super obvious when you listen to the background vocals compared to her dull husky tone live. I saw a vocal coach video where the coach said that it's common for people with vocal damage to pull their larynx down because it's hard for them to keep their voice stable otherwise. I feel like that might be what's going on with the dull tone. And then when she goes higher her voice starts to sound really hoarse and dry. Just listen to what her voice does when she screams at the audience in concerts: it has a gravel-y crackled quality to it. But I feel like the sound engineers also need to make the mic more sensitive in some cases, so she doesn't have to sacrifice tonal quality in order to project. The other day, I think I figured out why Boom Clap sounds bad live (save for a couple performances). In the studio, she's singing breathy and soft in the verses, but everything sounds rather level because that's how studio mics work. But when she performs it on a tv show or in a stadium or whatever, it's hard for the mic to account for the change in volume from the verses to the chorus; the mic isn't on a sensitive enough setting to pick up low levels of sound, so she has to sing in a different part of her voice to not be drowned out by the instrumental. Just my theories
  14. I'm in the process of organizing all my Charli files and PHEW!! Summer Love is a BOP! I wish it was made into a fully fleshed out song I love when she flips the subject from herself to the person she's singing about from the 1st verse to the 2nd verse: ''open me up until I come undone / open you up until you come undone". It seems like those are some of her best songs! Need Ur Luv and 3AM do the same thing but instead of flipping subjects she flips the narrative in the bridges!
  15. can you link the non autotune version? NO OMG she said something like "sorry I'm not saying much but I don't know what to say", I don't know the exact words and I don't wanna go back but yeah no that's not what she said TEAAA her voice is so emotive and has such a beautiful tone in some of her songs, the heavy autotune makes me feel so disconnected from the song and I can't get in the zone. It's just too distracting for me. It's like I'm hearing the google translate bot try to imitate charli xcx Do you have a link to crashing cars? + there's also Secret, and she said (in the "and the writer is" podcast) that there are a few songs she didn't write much of on Sucker. @@Rose Garden Dreams because 90% of his posts are about that damn song omg bless his heart ok so I know I'm late on this but you also didn't mention me so I forgot about it... anyways, I'm not sure what your point was with Taxi? Yes it's a little tired - the skinny sis has been replayed thousands of times on every gays' phone, so that's expected - but Taxi still reigns as the H.B.I.C. of the Exchange tracks. The nonstop frenzy over Taxi was completely deserved. Like I said, HBHG isn't a bad song, but it's just strange that all of a sudden everyone's like OMG HGHBHGHBHGHB... she never was that girl. The only reason y'all even hyped her up in the first place is because she was the only exchange girl left that the gays haven't overplayed into oblivion. It's like if lanaboards only became besties with HGHB because Taxi, TKO, and No Angel moved schools. Why does Linda scare you? pm me, I have it on my phone
  16. can you post the version with that bridge?
  17. Well that was painful to listen to. Especially 2:36, that's not even a high note for her voice. She used to be able to hit notes like that with no problem. I wish she'd stop screaming at parties. It doesn't help that she's had laryngitis and other throat/sickness problems in the past year or so. Does anyone else remember when she had to go on vocal rest (I think it was around the time of the nylon japan set), and that clip of her gargling water before going on stage?
  18. what did you mean by this? she's been waiting forever to release GNO
  19. Whenever I see someone mention the 2016/2017 incarnation of XCX3, it feels like I'm reading about an urban legend/myth in such a weird way that's hard to describe. It's like... I yearn for something that never really existed, and it only properly exists in Charli's mind. It's trippy and sad.
  20. I'm not a HBHG hater, but let's be real for a minute: HBHG was never that girl. Not bad, but not great. The fact that you guys are suddenly collectively nutting over it from one day to the next is just weird! Stop herd mentality challenge
  21. I ALWAYS thought Taxi said "you're drunk, get in" instead of "don't talk, get in", this is a life altering moment
  22. For me, VV didn't feel genuine on first listen, so I felt very conflicted, but it grew on me more and more as time went on. And then she dropped ATAP and it felt totally neutered and uninspired. So I could never really get into it because I saw it as a sell-out song. It was never bad, but I just looked so lifeless compared to VV. I think it would've taken off if pop was in a better position. I feel like pop had a big comeback on the charts when the tropical/dance wave came in 2017, so it's just unfortunate that the cards weren't set up for ATAP to smash.
