  3. Happy Birthday Lizzy Woolridge!!! (...wherever you are *looks out window thoughtfully*) Kidding, I hope Lana has a great birthday and the very best day possible!!
  4. .... you guys are really annoying me and twisting words. no one here is like OMG IM DONE WITH LANA DEL REY IM LEAVING THE FORUM. we're allowed to have our opinions, just as you have yours. if you want to think everything she shits out is 100% gold, that's super cool but we're allowed to think otherwise, and that doesn't mean we aren't fans or that we don't support her. if we weren't fans, we wouldn't be on this forum. being a fan doesn't mean you're always LANA DEL REY IS MY QUEEEEEN etc. at the end of the day, I think it was a discussion ~ not any sort of uprising against Lana as some of you are making it out to be
  5. oh goodness this has become one of those divisive interviews~ this thread is a mess. I get what some of you are saying about overt patriotism~ But I just find it confusing for the girl that was waving around her American flags, has referenced America in at LEAST 10 songs (not counting American landmarks, specific cities, etc.), and said she "believes in the country America used to be" (still don't know what this means, maybe something to do with the American dream?), etc. has completely thrown Americana out of her lyrical inspirations and says she's not patriotic "anymore" .. If she had substantiated reasoning, that'd be one thing~but you guys saying she felt alienated or that she didn't have a fan base here is completely untrue. Look at her album sales, look at her sold out shows in LA + NY following the release of BTD. Did you see how packed Amoeba records was? I felt like this interview was a fuck you, America and fuck you American fans who have supported you since you came on the scene I think it's important to not be unduly critical- she is human, we contradict ourselves and sometimes we paint ourselves in the way we want to look/seem to others, and not necessarily the way we are ~ however, I feel like some will just excuse anything she says. She's just like me! She's misunderstood! Faults are a part of being human and she's not perfect. She is a public figure and once you put these things out there, you have to be held accountable. Yes, it is mostly about the music but you can't deny that at least some of the reason why you are such a fan~ and why you've joined a forum revolving around her~ is because of Lana Del Rey the person. I'm just saying you can still be a fan and not even like her most of the time. (does that even make sense? idk, i have a lot of feelingz) I still find her completely intriguing, even if she's not necessarily my cup of tea, and I think the conversation regarding her personality is interesting~ perhaps we should make a separate thread for that to discuss
  6. I think it's just one of the many facets of Lana Del Rey. You see the cutesy, fun side when she's on stage/ with her fans~ and I think that's genuine, I don't think you can really fake that. And then sometimes, with the press, she comes off as cold and aloof. I think she was a girl who is so used to being liked or accepted and wasn't prepared for criticism. She's sweet to the people that she knows love her already, and wary or perhaps even snotty to interviewers. (You may recall the Oyster mag interview where she continuously asks the interviewer if they like her music or not and then Fearne interviews- she is always kind because she knows Fearne is a fan) I mean, when you think back to her Lizzy Grant interviews, I believe all of them garnered praise, none of them were really negative. It's like someone needs to tell her that not everyone is going to like you, and that's okay. I also think she tries to give the appearance that she doesn't care what people think but that couldn't be further from the truth. (After all, we all do to some extent) I wanna be the whole world's girl may be her most narrative lyric in LDR existence, imo. She wants everyone to like her, and because she got so much criticism after SNL from her home country, she's kind of turned her nose up at America.. as if it is impossible for us to comprehend her deeply philosophical lyrics,~pepsi cola pussy- that's ayn rand, right?? Criticism is a part of life, I agree it was in excess following SNL, but as I've said before, the press has moved on and so should she. I mean, Y&B even charted higher in the US!
  7. i swear she has multiple personalities. wasn't it just her last interview where she stated she dropped out of fordham to pursue music?? "Actually, I’ve never read anything written about me that was true." not dramatic at all "I don’t give a fuck about what I look like." "Do you consider yourself patriotic? Not anymore." "But other than that, I don’t feel like, “Rah, rah, America!” Fuck that shit [laughing]" oh aren't you cool get to fuck lana.. what a grating interview. she comes off like an uppity idiot with an attitude fitting an angst riddled teen.
  8. the four seasons- december, 1963 (oh what a night) literally one of my fave songs
  9. G-d Margot is so hot~~ she's like a pretty and talented Blake Lively. crying 4ever about Pan Am's cancellation but I'm ready 4 her 2 blow up. This looks so good, ready 4 fun Leo I'm excited for the Salinger doc, he's one of my favorites and I think it will be interesting. And my baby Ed Norton has commentary in it so <3 <3 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1596753/?ref_=sr_1
  10. IDK maybe its a real person, but I kind of think its a made up name, like one of those generic, classic 60s sitcom sort of names. Kind of like in Boarding School live- Come on, Billy, let's support our Boarding School. Or in Puppy Love- Promise I'll never see Arthur or Bobby A man named Jonatan Johansson died from a skiing accident in Lake Placid in 2006 ~ Lake Placid is fairly small, I'm sure this was heavily talked about, possibly inspired by him? Or Leonardo David who died in 1985, after being in a coma for 5 years following a ski fall in Lake Placid~ he died in Lana's birth year. I remember seeing a FB post by Lana saying they used to ski/ go atving in Lake Placid. Possible that she googled her town and birth year for inspiration? Reaching?
  11. Interesting interview~ http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/radar-band-of-the-week-no62-lana-del-rey Some excerpts: Blinking under heavy lashes and auburn curls, she laughs when NME asks about the rumours. “I’m not a trapeze artist! Though I was born on the day of the worldly rapture, June 21.” (TPD note- referring to her old Myspace about me) “I would move people, paint houses, wear sports jackets for pictures in truck magazines. It felt like fighting for survival for such a long time. No money, no place to live – I’ve been in more dangerous situations than other people,” she says, cagily. (referring to her Craigslist jobs- God, we gotta find those truck mags!!!! I look for you in magazines) Believe It Or Not: Lizzy’s good pals with Marina, who she met over Twitter and bonded with over a love of American culture.
