One thing is for sure in my mind: this album is dense and intense, and I’m pretty sure I won’t love every part of it at first. My définitive ranking / thoughts on it will take a couple of weeks.

SubPop does that, a month prior to release when you buy any physical copy through their official store. I wish Lana would do the same, but after having seen what happened to Weyes’s album (someone recorded their early-access stream and shared it with everyone), I understand why Interscope doesn’t want to do that

I think that if you do leave out CN, leave out the interludes as well

I heard some of the album through short snippets and that’s it. Most of them were lq, so I didn’t really get the full picture / atmosphere of the songs. But @hotshot2am pointed out that the duration of the leaks were off by a couple of seconds, which means that maybe many heard some unmastered tracks… I was super anxious yesterday and almost caved in, until I learned that (i remember when Dealer leaked, it was a fan mix that got me like when I heard the real version). I hate anything that is tagged or super lq for a full song or remastered, but I guess that’s the price to pay if you want to listen to leaks (among others). Anyways, we’ve got this! This album feels too much like a journey to compromise it after we’ve gone this far.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of MV for this era… but when she followed Rich Lee on her Insta, now I want one…

I’m honestly so grateful that @BlackoutZone came here to talk to us about her past projects to clarify things. He did say that the bombastic songs kinda don’t exist, maybe only in demo / adlib / early stage form, but nothing got recorded (so those bombastic songs aren’t another Loved You Then and Now type of situation). Maybe they Lana and Jack did reuse some ideas they might have considered over the years for some of the tracks for Ocean Blvd, but since BoZ said there were no outtakes, and since Norman is almost five years old, I’d be surprised if they went back to those OG ideas for this album.

I think he was replying to people thinking - like I did- that she’d pull out a deluxe edition of Ocean Blvd like Taylor pulled out the 3am tracks to Midnights on release day. the streaming party is disappointing to me, but objectively, it is honestly massive, to have the new record being played in so many cities on Wednesday. Even HM’s UO listening parties weren’t as ambitious. but hey guys, she confirmed that the coke necklace would be sold again It’s the coke necklace that she hides up her sleeve

It’s a tradition, at this point, to talk about some crumbs for months and it doesn’t mean anything or ends up being on the tracklist i now see this as being half of the fun, the speculation game that gets the conversation going but ends up going nowhere. Besides, ever since LFL, isn’t there always at least one track per album that gets teased or that we learn about but gets the chop? See? Tradition.

I still haven’t decided what I’m gonna do on the 24th because this album is so long… It’s fortunately not a LFL situation, where I had overplayed the two first singles way too much, but I don’t know if I’m going to skip to track 3 directly… (or maybe jump to Fishtail trough Taco Truck?!) Candy Necklace sounds so interesting, and Let the Light In… I’ll hardly get any sleep the night before the 24th…

I’m glad I came back listening to you when March came around: you truly hit hard on your release month You were not in an ideal position, following Norman, but you are subtlety complex and beautiful. With your sister BB, this fan base will need to revisit you, in the years to come, to appreciate you more. ❤️

Maybe… but she kinda had to include it on BB, after having cut it out from COCC. Dealer brings an interesting fresh breath to the middle of the album, although another dark song like it would have been better after (Dealer kinda feels glued there, alone, on BB)

Didn’t Target put the Midnights CD in advance too? Interscope doesn’t seem to be having as much control as Taylor’s. And well, Taylor did have the two other albums before that released through streaming platforms first, which would explain why she is relatively « new » to the whole album leaking before time. but yeah, you’re right that Lana gets screwed over and over each era. But, to the retailer’s defence, the two-week delay might not have helped…

Yeah it’s a possibility. I honestly don’t care much for critics and never really believed she could « top » Norman on that matter. but…
