The opening line of All Smiles was used in Carmen, but the song itself is really different. Completely different story. Definitely one of my favourites x Aside from that one, other “rough” demos that I’d love to see get the full classic Lana Del Rey production treatment are Your Band is All the Rage, You’re Gonna Love Me, Disco, Money Hunny, Noir, Baby Blue Love, C U L8r Alligator, Hangin’ Around, Valley of the Dolls, Run Motorcycle, “The Man I Love” segment from the Trash Magic demo, & the opening parts of Heartshaped Chevrolet, as of course the latter half of the song essentially became On Our Way & Every Man Gets His Wish. I’m tempted to add Pin-Up Galore to the list, but I feel like the versions we have already are perfect for the song because they really capture the vibe of it. Same w Wayamaya. Would also love to see Lana versions of some May Jailer tracks such as Pretty Baby, Out with a Bang, and Bad Disease. Also Ben, but apparently a studio version does already exist. (though I’m paging @butterflies to please make a remix using the acapella we have of it & Run Motorcycle. I’m surprised no one has tried to make fitting full versions of those with the acapellas we have) Another great one. I really like this remix Kristopher Prophet did. It’s not perfect since the acapella we have isn’t great quality, but I do enjoy listening to it. It has sort of a dark, creepy, grunge feel to it. Also, Kristijan Majic / butterflies did a great remix for C U L8r that I really love -

Some things Rick Nowels posted on IG lately regarding the track - "Lana, Stevie Nicks, Justin Parker, and I wrote 'Beautiful People Beautiful Problems' together. The record was a pairing of two of the greats. I flew to NYC and recorded Stevie's vocal at Electric Lady Studios. Then Stevie came to my studio in LA and she and Lana sang together. Ethan Hawke has recently used it for the trailer of his Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward documentary, 'The Last Movie Stars.' I think it works beautifully."

Last night, Lana Del Rey celebrated Duke Nicholson's birthday with friends and family at Casa Vega Restaurant in Sherman Oaks, California. Lana recently celebrated her own birthday there in June. The correct line is: "you're so alive back in the countryside" I like both interpretations too though x The kicker is, in the live version you can see and hear more clearly that the word starts with a "P" which also negates the "Comfort Inn" theory. Aside from asking her herself, I really wish one of the other live performance videos would surface such as the one from The National Underground, because we know it exists. That would be incredibly helpful x

I agree it would make more context in the song, but I really don’t think she’s saying it all 4 times despite that. Lana’s “r”s and “s”s are a bit sharper when she says them, and for the first three “cool”s the word is more rounded. Plus if you look at her mouth, she changes shape for “cruel” vs the three previous “cools.” Her mouth bounces more while saying “cool” as she doesn’t need to scrunch her lips together as much as she does when she says “cruel” anyway I need to sleep now bc this has been a good reminder that I’ll actually need to be doing this for several hours tomorrow for my real non-Lana job

I agree it’s likely not Bonnie especially since that word uses a short o vowel sound (BAW-nee) where the word she’s using has a long o vowel sound like pony (POE-nee) Again, likely not peony since that word doesn’t utilise a short nor long o vowel sound and begins with a long e vowel sound which isn’t heard in the word Lana sings (PEE-uh-nee) Also in that live as many others, she only says “cruel” before aptitude but “cool” for the rest. I like analysing stuff like this bc my actual job is to transcribe audio, so sometimes I have to do a lot of playing back the clips and breaking down the words phonetically to figure out what people are saying, especially when the recordings aren’t clear. So this is good practice for my job I get paid for skkk it’s like a little puzzle x I would also note that those lyric booklets aren’t always the most reliable. For example, in Florida Kilos it lists the lyric as “sun in my mouth and gold hoops” where in live versions she’s said gum, gold, or just simply moaned. In the studio version, I don’t think it’s clear enough either to be determined as “sun.” I think sometimes even Lana doesn’t know what she’s saying skkk x (also I think the booklet you linked may just be a fanmade one rather than the official digital booklet?) Edit: yes, the booklet linked is fanmade. The official booklet didn’t contain full lyrics but only excerpts, which even then still weren’t reliable.
