I relate to VFR so much. The line “Ever since I fell out of love with you, I fell back in love with the city/the streets“ speaks to me as much as the title track does. I went through a breakup in February and started hating the city I live in, I was so uncomfortable walking down the streets knowing my ex was never going to walk them with me anymore, and step by step, as I was moving on, I rediscovered the city, and how beautiful it is. And sometimes it feels like the neon lights are sparkling for me, just like Lana thinks the Paramount sign sparkles for her -

How was I not a fan of NOTG before?? it’s literally been playing in my head all morning long… I think I still need more time to fully appreciate the chorus, but the verses touch me so much, they’re gorgeous. Crazy how much the song makes sense within the context of the album -

I agree with you!! My interpretation of the album is that it starts with her breakup with Sean (TB, BB) which leads her to do a deep introspection. She starts with an introspection on her image, how others see her (Arcadia, BBS, Beautiful). On IYLDWM, she’s not over the breakup yet, but then the introspection continues as she realises that Sean wanted to change her for someone she is not (Beautiful, VFR). That leads her to the angry stage of her breakup on Dealer. She then regains her calm but still holds a grudge against Sean for not being a good enough man for her, for not caring as much as she wanted him to. She’d rather cut him off (Thunder). On WFWF, she meets a new man and warns him of her past, and the issues she’s had. The introspection continues as she tells her new man (possibly Clayton at the time?) that she’ll do her best to not turn into a wildfire despite her past. She then goes deeper into her past by remembering an old lover on NOTG and realises how hard life still is for her, but she starts thinking about an old friend of hers on LL and how life could be with a kid on CB, and realises that no matter how hard things are, she’ll always be full of love for the people she holds very close to her heart. She knows she’s not alone and has so much love to give. She’s now over the breakup, and makes an attempt at leaving behind the pain of her past to focus on the present. Her sister is having a baby, and Lana knows that that’s what matters the most. The album closes with SC, a love letter for Chuck to remind her she’s always here for her. -

I don’t really like the close up on her face on the alternative cover, but I would’ve loved it if we could see more of her. Crazy how an angle can change everything -

Doesn’t the album hold one of the highest user scores on Metacritic? Lana’s stans are doing wonders haha -

The chords for Violets are insanely beautiful, I think the song is in my top 3 now -

I just watched her Instagram live and I must say that it makes me so happy to see how proud she is of this record! Last time she felt so close to an album was with NFR, she seemed to love some of the tracks to death, and I get the same impression with BB <3 -

It’s gonna be hard to find, I’m pretty sure there are quite a few words on this album she never used before… -

CB, LL and NOTG were recorded in 2013. Thunder and Dealer in 2017. If You Lie Down With Me was recorded in 2020/2021, probably during a recent session she had with Barrie. -

NFR and BB are on their thrones as my favourite LDR records, and HM and COTCC are fighting for the third spot… I think it’s impossible for me to like an album more than NFR, because it’s literally my favourite album of all time, but BB is insanely good, I knew from the title track that the album was going to wreak me emotionally and I was right -

I think the title track, Cherry Blossom and If You Lie Down With Me are my top 3, but I adore Thunder as well… and Living Legend… urgh I really cannot decide yet -

Cannot wait to listen to the album with my mom. We have this tradition of listening to every LDR record together at least once, and I’m sure she’s going to like this one because she loves Lana’s lower register, and she uses it in quite a few songs -

Regarding the previously unreleased tracks on the album: - Thunder is what it should’ve always been. The build up is so good!! Definitely one of my favourite tracks on the album, the production is gold. - I never really liked NOTG before, but within the context of the album, I like it much more! I’m glad I never played it too much, it was a surprisingly beautiful experience. - Living Legend and Cherry Blossom have always been some of my favourite unreleased songs, they’re so painful to listen to in the context of the album, but in a good day. Cannot wait to send LL to a certain someone and tell them how much of an impact they’ve had on me… they really are my living legend. CB made me sob so much, the bridge destroys me. It fits BB perfectly and I’m eternally grateful to Lana for choosing to include take 3 on the album. - I might be the only one but I really don’t get the hyper around Dealer. I hate the guy’s voice, I really cannot see myself listening to that song, he’s like 70% of it… Lana’s part is so f-ing good, and the instrumental is cool af, but it doesn’t really go anywhere so I’ll pass on this song. -

4.2/5 Yeah that’s surprising, but we’ll take it edit: wait is that the users’ score? -

I knew this album was going to be good, but it’s better than I could’ve ever imagined Got me crying so much, hadn’t had that experience since NFR But I just wanna take a second to talk about the mixing on Spotify, it’s awful, it ruined Beautiful for me, such a delicate song deserves better. I hope it’ll be fixed soon with the rest of the album too. Every time Lana raises her voice, it’s like the sound saturates -
What amuses and triggers me at the same time is people using the word "whisper" for singing, it makes no sense. You can sing with a soft voice, you can sing quietly, you can sing with a very breathy tone, but you cannot whisper and sing at the same time. Whispers are whispers, and I wish people would stop making the confusing between whispering and using a very delicate way of singing. Like it or not, but singing like Lana does in White Dress or at the end of BB is insanely difficult, it requires so much control and this way of singing should be praised if anything. It’s understandable why some people don’t like it, but it’s probably one of the most difficult ways of singing and it’s a stylistic choice that should never be criticised.

Ngl, I didn’t really find the music video interesting, although I loved the beginning. BB is a song that means a lot to me, so maybe I was hoping for a video that would’ve been more interesting than what we got, or one that would’ve followed the narrative of the song more. However, Lana is as stunning as always, and I think she’d make a good actress. She has a sort of natural pain in her eyes that gives me the chills everytime she stares straight at the camera… That’s when you know she feels the music -
I’m pretty sure the vocals from the Pawn Shop Blues’ music video were re-recorded, probably in 2017, and there’s still the same emotion in Lana’s voice as there is in the AKA version. That’s why I’m hoping the vocals from the oldest unreleased on BB were re-recorded. I have no doubt that even new vocals could be super emotive, and they’d sound much better for sure. It was never a matter of “the first take was the best and I’ll never do better” in Lana’s case. We know Lana used to record a lot it takes in the early days, so I don’t think it’d ever be an issue to re-record old unreleased to make them fit the album better. If Lana chose to include 2013 unreleased on a 2021, that’s obviously because she still loves these songs very deeply, she’d totally be able to deliver vocals as emotional as the original recordings.

I never really read the thank you note so I didn’t know Cherry was one of Lana’s favourite songs! No wonder why she kept the tradition of bass-driven bops going with Cinnamon and TJF. Wonder if BBS is gonna be that type of song for BB. If the interlude transitions into the song, I’d say the chances of getting a bass-driven song are pretty high!
