Blue Banisters - Pre-Pre-Release Thread

Same. I usually don’t particularly enjoy long albums but this time, we’ve heard a lot of the songs already (and it’s not even really our fault, we could’ve never guessed when Thunder and CB leaked that they were going to be on a future album. Otherwise we could’ve avoided listening) And about the re-recordings, it’d be very weird if she kept the 2013 vocals for CB on a 2021 album. Her voice has changed a lot… Something would sound off, and her current voice is much better anyway. But for Thunder, I think she’s going to keep the original recording, unless she rewrites parts of it. Kinda like she kept the original Yosemite on COTCC. Her voice has changed a tiny bit since 2017 when Thunder was recorded, but it’s not that noticeable unless you pay attention to it. Yosemite was recorded in 2016 and it still fits perfectly on COTCC. The biggest change in her voice happened between 2013 and 2016, hence why I hope she re-recorded CB. -

Hadn’t really thought about that!! Now I’m less worried about her changing the cover. It’d be such a loss, the current one is gorgeous -

If she changes the album title, she’ll also most likely change the album cover too since it’s related to the song with the banisters and Tex and Mex :/ -

(for one of your last facts) I might be wrong but if I remember well, I think BOZ said the new song might be considered to be the new title track! But he didn’t say it’s officially the new one, I believe he said it was still undecided if she was going to keep Blue Banisters as the title track or not -

It’s not only about singing high, it’s also about the power and the tone of her voice. You’re right, her voice is stronger than ever. Her technique has improved drastically over the past few years. The shift in her voice started during the LA to the moon tour. Idk if she took singing lessons but she had more control over her voice, and her technique was already better. That’s also when she started projecting her belts with more power and clarity, and less tension. The quality of her voice was also improving, I know everyone has different tastes but objectively speaking, her voice is richer, fuller and jazzier now, and Lana’s playing with different textures with way more ease than before. Since NFR came out, she’s been singing mostly in her middle and high range, but she still has some incredibly good low moments. She just doesn’t force herself to sing too low anymore like she was doing on BTD. In conclusion, her voice has aged like fine wine, she can still sing low while maintaining a gorgeous tone but she doesn’t force herself into that register, and she takes advantage of her improved technique to sing high notes and belt more. The only thing that seems harder for her now is to sing with a breathy and quiet voice, but that’s one of the downsides of gaining power and being able to belt fuller notes. The fuller and more powerful your voice is, the harder it is to sing with a breathy tone (unless you’re Mariah Carey and you can maintain a more or less good balance between the two). It’s not good for the voice to use too much falsetto and sing breathy anyway, because it’s a disconnected register. -

WW also sounds like an opener to me! Or a track 2, like MAC (MAC really sounded like an opener when we didn’t know NFR was track 1). WW would be the perfect song to transition to after the opening track -

Blue Banisters really sounds like a closer to me. I can’t picture it as anything else than the final track on the album. She had moved out of the black and into the blue in Get Free, and she’ll be moving out of the blue and into the green and gray at the end of this new record -

In LMLYLAW, she sings about wanting to leave LA with her man. She said she could’ve managed if he stayed, but if he did, she’d have no fun. Which to me, could imply she’d rather stay than leave on her own. She recorded the song early in the making of COTCC, probably around September or October, when she started dating Sean. I read what people said about the new snippet and if she talks about her body being the map of LA, that means she’s definitely staying. Now that her and Sean aren’t together anymore, she has no interest in leaving LA anymore. She had imagined a different life with him outside of LA, but now they’re apart, she’s decided she’s not going anywhere else. -

Neil reposted the photo so I’d say it’s almost sure we now have the official cover and title. To me, it seems that TBD is for the date only ; instead of announcing a third false date, she’s playing it smart by informing us it still hasn’t been decided. -

Love these songs but please no. We already have Thunder and Cherry Blossom, we don’t need more unreleased tracks on this album. If she wants to release previously scrapped songs, she should just put out the unreleased collection -

If Cherry Blossom and Thunder really are on the album, that means we’ll know at least 6 songs before it’s out, the three "lead" singles, the two unreleased songs and the new single that’s dropping soon… I’m not the biggest fan of long albums but for this one, I hope there are at least 16 tracks, so we can have a reasonable amount of tracks to discover. And instead of putting out a completely new single soon, she should just officially release Thunder or Cherry Blossom. We already know them, but I’m sure a lot of fans would love to be able to stream the remastered (and most likely re-recorded, for CB) versions now, and listen to the entirely new songs when the album’s out. Thunder seems to be a fan favourite, it’d be a great buzz single. -

Late to the party but I have to say I love the album cover, it’s absolutely stunning, she looks gorgeous !! And I’m so glad the album is still called Blue Banisters, this title evokes so much to me (might even be my favourite title of hers but it’s just a really personal preference). Won’t listen to the new snippet but very excited for a new single P.S. : I know the photo is recent, but it looks like it could’ve been taken during the LFL era, there’s something about the hair and the makeup that’s very reminiscent of 2017. And her shoot with Neil for that era was one of their best ! That guy is so talented, he really know how to encapsulate a feeling. I get the same mystical vibe I got with the 2017 shoot. -

How do we know Jack isn’t on the album at all? Did BOZ say anything about it? I’m sorry I probably miss a lot of things, I haven’t kept track of everything lately -

If WW is the only track produced by Mike Dean on the album, that probably means it’s either mainly produced by Jack (which I personally would be very happy about but not everyone here thinks the same ), or by Zack. But I find it weird there’s only one song produced by Mike. Either she’s keeping the songs they made together for a future project, or she scrapped everything she did with him. -

Yeah I agree with you, I really don’t get why people like Noir, it’s awful and her vocals are terrible About Dealer, if by screaming she meant belting because she didn’t know the proper term, I’m here for it, but if she really meant screaming, I don’t see how it could sound good -

14h ago, “I know this ain’t 2010-2014 ldr anymore and that’s the whole problem”. It doesn’t take a genius to understand what it means... Now yes, I agree, she should give us clarifications for the dates, but that’s it. You should stop having high expectations with her, back in the day she didn’t have as much control as she has now, she’s basically free to do whatever she wants and yes, it’s so freaking annoying that she gives us dates and then never comment on them again. But can we just stop complaining every day about it?? There aren’t even discussions anymore about it, just the same complaints over and over. It’s not gonna change a damn thing. I’m not saying I’m fine with it. But bashing her almost on a daily basis on every single thing she does or doesn’t do won’t make you sleep better at night, I promise. -

She literally doesn’t have any “obligations” towards anyone, even as a global superstar. If you think that it’s a problem she’s not the 2010-2014 Lana anymore, then you are the problem, with all the respect I have for you. It’s her right to move on and change, to become a laid back artist and do what she’s comfortable in doing, as much as it’s your right to dislike her artistic evolution. It’s toxic to expect her to do the same things she was doing with BTD. Even when she did big music videos like FIILY/TG and COTCC, some of y’all weren’t satisfied and called her lazy... -

Yesss I want her to belt too!! Her belting voice has improved so much over the years and it’s 1000 times better and clearer now, I love it so much. Would’ve been amazing if she kept belting towards the end and didn’t just belt one "learn" and switched to falsetto -

True. She made LFL for the fans, and although there are some gems in this record, it appears to be her least personal one, and it’s a bit all over the place (still an amazing album though, and it was an essential step in her career). Stans should stop having high expectations. Everyone has expectations at some point and it’s totally normal, but stans are just toxic. No, Lana will never do another BTD or UV. No, Lana will never go back being as glamorous as she was during the BTD era. It’s time to let go of the past. No matter what pressed stans may say, she’s been serving only quality for a decade and she’s only been working with amazing producers. She’s just evolving, we are all evolving too, and as fans (or stans) it’s really toxic to want something that’s dead back. And it’s toxic for us too! Because it only makes the love we have for Lana crumble. Some of you guys are stuck with a version of Lana that she isn’t anymore and will never be again, and you should really consider letting go and welcoming the change and her evolution as a person and an artist. And remember that it’s okay to not like her anymore, not everyone is able to appreciate her evolution and not everyone wants to. However, everyone should at least try to understand why she’s not making BTD or UV 2.0 and why she’s evolving in a very specific direction instead. Then if you don’t like it, fine. But there’s just no point with complaining all the time about her current sound. The production on the three new tracks is immaculate. Only the mixing sucks, but that can be fixed for the album’s release. -

Mhhh it’s not true though. She never used to occasionally sing high. UV is full of high notes for example. There are way more high notes in the main vocals on that album than there are on LFL or NFR. The difference is that she didn’t use her lower register a lot on COTCC, so there was less contrast with her usual high notes. She used to sing very low notes on BTD, UV and HM, reaching the bottom of the third octave, but let’s not forget that she felt like she had to lower her voice or she wouldn’t be taken seriously. Her natural voice is much higher. To be completely honest, I don’t really understand why you think there are less dynamics in her music now. She delivered some pretty good lows in each of the three new songs, as well as some really good falsetto for WW and TB, and great belts in BB. She played with the different textures of her voice, with her projection too... the songs aren’t monotonous or boring imo. Even on COTCC, she made really good use of her projection and vocal textures. There are a lot of songs on her early albums that aren’t as dynamic (or songs in which the dynamics feel forced), probably because she was still figuring out how to properly use her instrument and how she could sound best -

I can kinda see TB being the opener, it’s very calm, kinda like Cruel World was. It wouldn’t have a grand opening with strings like BTD, HM or NFR, or any sort of instrumental build up before Lana starts to sing like in WD or Love, but it would still be a great opener imo. The way it’s very quiet in the beginning and then becomes louder and bigger in the chorus makes it a very good contestant. Also, « I guess you could call it text book, I was looking for the father I wanted back » is a pretty iconic line, very heartwrenching and would set the mood for the rest of the record edit: now that I think about it, Love starts very quietly too! So TB as the opener wouldn’t be shocking
