The eligibility period was something like October 2013-September 2014.

This video is supposed to be disturbing in the way that a film about a character being raped gets under your skin. Neither is advocating for rape, but rather portraying a story. Lana's lyrics about women who are in emotionally and physically volatile relationships exist as sonic portrayals of this kind of documentation, which is why I'm surprised at these reactions. True anti-feminism exists in the inability for a woman to tell a story, no matter how excruciating, without being labeled as an advocate for the mistreatment for women.

I'm almost inclined to agree with you guys. I just think the Paradise nom was a clear indication that they favor her, so I would be a little surprised if she was snubbed entirely.

Nominations are announced in a couple of weeks on December 5th, so I thought it might be fun for us to give our own predictions. Lana was submitted for: Album of the Year, Record of the Year (West Coast), Song of the Year (West Coast), Pop Vocal Album, Music Video (Shades of Cool), Music Film (Tropico). I'll say: Best Pop Vocal Album (Ultraviolence) Best Music Film (Tropico) I think she could still be an outside contender for AOTY since they seem to favor her, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Even pop album could be in jeopardy considering the large number of contenders this year. Sia, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, etc. Tropico feels like a token nom due to the lack of contenders in that category.

Ride, Born to Die, National Anthem, Video Games, Shades of Cool, West Coast, Blue Jeans, Gods and Monsters, Carmen, Chelsea Hotel, Summertime Sadness are all fairly equal for me. Blue Velvet is great in its Lynchian qualities as well.

I don't think the label would consider the album to be a flop, though. It's much less conventional in sound and had zero promotion and still sold 1.3 millionish WW and 400K in the US (on par with BTD at this stage). She did pretty well for an alternative artist in this sales climate, actually. Most Interscope artists sell much less. She also has longevity and I expect UV to be a sleeper success a la BTD.
