It's a fault on both sides:
What Lana said was very much exaggerated to make her look suicidal.
However, that we can't dismiss the fact Lana did say she wished she was dead. But as others have said, people say "kill me now" and no one questions if they're suicidal.

But in general, people just need to give Lana a break. I don't know why there is such a fascination with giving Lana especially a hard time, but there really is no reason as to why she should be picked on. And I think that's what she's sick of. To be honest, I would be too. That's probably why she hasn't wanted to be interviewed recently.

All in all this is what I think she's trying to say: Let the music speak for itself. Lana is here to make music and pursue her dream; Her personal life is another story. The fact that this interview exploited and was exaggerated is something she's been trying to get away from for so long, and I think that's why seeing this interview was so hard for her.

    Off to the races:
    swimming pool glimmering darling
white bikini off in my red nail polish
Watch me in the swimming pool
    Bright blue ripples you
Sitting sipping on your black crystal aw yeah

Then the swimming pool scene from the SOC music video. Similar concept.

I think that's a large part of the problem here. Lana didn't explicitly state she was feeling suicidal, yet the Guardian journalist didn't refrain from implying this. The journalist clearly made it seem that Lana felt suicidal from the title of 'I wish I was dead already' - which, really, suggests right from the start that Lana feels suicidal. He implied a view that Lana didn't make completely clear, which is completely unfair.

YESS! The other woman reminded me a lot of Amy Winehouse and I think she could really do an Amy song well

I've noticed with Ultraviolence that if you don't understand Lana as a person, then it's difficult to enjoy this album. And I think that's why the reviews differentiate so much; this album is much more in depth, and requires more of a comprehensiveness towards Lana's persona and past in order to make sense, in comparison to BtD.

:omfg2: this actually makes perfect sense, like someone who needs to drive somewhere to get to the toilet but their driving super fast because they are busting.

Gramma said that somewhere out there there's a good man on the toilet.

I could see that. I feel like when you're surrounded by darker, more depressed people, and you also suffer with depression, it makes it harder to see the bright side in things...

She's been writing since December 2012. And of course she has been recording, it's just really directional issues tbh. This is her make or break album because she is straddling actual 'fame' and people are finding out about her more quickly now and she has to have an album that solidifies her image.
The tentative release is September 2014, her darker image probably reflects the next era but we aren't sure.
