December 2012  I buy First Aid Kit's The Lion's Roar.

In love with the artwork, I check the booklet for credits, introduced to photographer Neil Krug and begin following him on flickr religiously favouriting his uploads and think his vision matches Lana's style.

Begin commenting "Are you a fan of Lana Del Rey? You should totally work together", which he acknowledges himself

April 2014  Lana Del Rey and Neil Krug collaborate on the visuals for her album Ultraviolence. This is the beginning of a prolific creative partnership which would include further collaborations for 3 publications and further personal projects, also Honeymoon, the album she would release the next year.

March 2014  I predict The Other Woman will appear on Ultraviolence 2 months before the tracklist is announced in fanmade artwork

March 2012  I post a fake magazine cover featuring the title "The Mysterious Ways of Miss Lana Del Rey"

October 2015  Lana Del Rey covers Billboard magazine with the same title

    King!

I don't know exactly either, but it seems to me that Lana's art is a sign of a wider phenomenon - of an emerging spiritual awareness in our society.

Not every Israeli wants war, just like not every Palestinian wants war. A lot of these people are victims of their government and circumstances. Don't lump the pacifists in with the extremists.

Live your lifes as you see fit but most of you will have to start to have some experiences before you are giving others lessons about life or sex.

Well I wanted to adjust some last things about my account and I saw some of your replies:

I don't want to evaluate my looks but financially I'm ok so I could pay for sex daily If this is what you mean

I appreciate your wit but you're off base: I'm married, I have a daughter and I didn't fantasized about a pop singer in a long time. Lana is a beautiful woman but I never thought sexually about her. I always had a protective attitude towards her that's the reason why I was drawn psychologically in the insane bullying online against her (BTW my wife don't likes Lana)

For me the artist persona is important (Wagner it's the only exception). What she said rubbed me in a wrong way. Right now I'm unable to listen to her. I was interested in the articles written online about her but now I don't want to click on any of them titled "Lana Del Rey used sex to get head", "Lana Del Rey claims she's 'slept with a lot of guys", "Lana Del Rey admits sleeping with many in the industry" and so on, it's sickening. I don't leave this forum because of the "attacks, I dragged Lana haters to the ground on other forums, I leave because I don't have anything else to say. Lana is a closed chapter for me."

What about Video Games, Blue Jeans, Dark Paradise and so on, you were really attracted to an cynical artist that promotes casual, emotionless sex? I don't think so, you were drawn to Lana's romanticism, any Lana song is about investing emotions in a relationship. I'm quite baffled that some of you tried to counter argue that Lana is a promoter of casual sex in 75% of her songs, it's quite the opposite

I hope that you (@LifeisBeautiful) will found someone who will love you for what you are, sex will be part of that relationship.

I'm really deploring some of your views on sexuality. I can understand it to a point because most of you are teenagers and the sex urges are just too strong at that age. Your position on sexuality isn't a surprise to me given that your generation has grown up on internet porn. Some of you think that what women and men want from sex is what you see in those inept productions. Be real, having casual sex (paid for) it's not hard to get in these days, it's not always fun (the myth of casual sex) but if you'll live your life that way you'll become an lonely empty shell. It's much harder to have a meaningful relationship with someone. Lana sung that her "Pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola", well from my experience every pussy taste the same, it's just a moist hole (and I think that women can say something similar about men). If that you're after, be my guest.

In my view, casual sex will always be morally inferior to serial monogamy which is the norm in any society and I think that Lana will be judged by the majority of people negatively. She always was a mess of powerful contradictory statements and the slightest emotional signal can tip anyone over to like or dislike her. Now I dislike her, profoundly. I don't trust any of her messages and I just don't care about her anymore. You cannot do or say anything you want unless you're ready to bear the consequences. I don't think Lana understands the consequences. Barrie's gone, Carozzini is nowhere and I have a feeling that James Franco would not be around for her...Who wants to be romantically involved with a self admitted whore?! I bet that people from her former and current label are offended by her statements and some of the fans will reevaluate her, I'm certain of that even if they aren't say it loudly.

I don't want to offend anyone these were my opinions. Wish you the best

From IMDB: The Source Family was a radical experiment in '70s utopian living. Their outlandish style, popular health food restaurant, rock band, and beautiful women made them the darlings of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip; but their outsider ideals and the unconventional behavior of their spiritual leader, Father Yod, caused controversy with local authorities.

Before we journey down the rabbit hole that is the Source Family, their leader Father Yod and the influence all of this may have had on Lana Del Rey and her album Ultraviolence, here is some background information of who they were and what they did:

There are also many excellent articles on Jim Baker, Father Yod and the Family available online. While I will be linking some of them here as references, I will mostly be focusing on the Family and their own personal interpretations of what was going on during the time they were active as I believe this is where Lana gathered most of her inspiration from. There are a lot of negative articles written about what actually was going on behind closed doors at the Family homes and while I'm sure some may be accurate, and will lend support to some theories, the writers of the articles were not a part of the Family and did not experience first hand what went on. While most former Family members do have criticism toward Jim Baker, the man, they speak very highly of Father Yod as their Earthly Spiritual Father, enough so that I don't doubt they would embellish. I recommend reading all evidence and articles with a grain of salt as all of it is personal anecdotes and there is no solid facts to back up any claims made.
I encourage every member of Lana Boards to dig in and discover any other pieces of evidence you may find regarding this topic. I will add to this post as new evidence is found with credit to the finder!

Here is the original post that I made in the Ultraviolence lyrics thread so please have a look at that for an idea of what started all of this:

    http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/4684-ultraviolence/?p=198053

So hopefully now you have an idea of the Family, we'll jump into the evidence we have. Some of it will be stuff that I and other users have already posted on the UV thread, some will be new. Please note, this section will be updated as more info is discovered.

The Source Family and their Influence on Ultraviolence

    General Evidence

    Lyrical Evidence
While I believe some songs on UV are inspired by the Source Family, I don't think that all songs were inspired by them. So you won't see Old Money on this list for example, as it is clearly written for the Great Gatsby, inspired by the character of Daisy and written as an epilogue to Lana's Young and Beautiful.

I also believe Lana is inspired from many different things and she weaves them into her own story, either by becoming who she is writing about or imagining herself in a similar situation. She has said before that is in the habit of writing about several things in a song and tying them all together. For example, Video Games being about two different men, etc. So while some lyrics fit the Source theory, others will not as they are probably influenced either by her life or something else.

    Cruel World

    Ultraviolence

    Shades of Cool

    Brooklyn Baby

    Aesthetic Evidence
This section is about the pictures used for Ultraviolence vs pictures from The Source Family Archives as well as the soundscape Dan Auerbach and Lana came up with. Lana had stated that her new take on the UV album was "Unlistenable" with many different sounds, tempo changes, etc. Some of the Ya Ho Wha recordings sound very similar to how Lana re-did UV with the layered sounds, experimental vocals and tempo changes.

    Sound

    Visuals

As I stated above I will continue updating this post with more evidence as I find it. Please feel free to post any similarities you might find and I will happily add it with credit to you!

Wow! This is great findings everyone! Very interesting!

another tidbit that stuck out to me like a sore thumb: I also read that Yod like to record his music in one take, never practicing or rerecording as it was more pure and a channel 'direct' from God then. Sounds like someone we know with her practice of recording everything in one take eh?

Ah all of this is fitting way too perfectly, have we found the mysterious truth behind Ultraviolence? Lol

I think I should make a Source Family mega post because I'm finding more and more connections to other songs and Lana in general as well not just with Ultraviolence. Would you all be interested in that?
