  1. Excellent article http://empirexl.wordpress.com/2014/06/27/everyone-hates-lana-del-rey/ "The lack of fulfillment both artists have experienced in their sexual relationships is the subtext of almost all of their music" (LDR and The Weekend).
  2. Unfortunately the last series of interviews gave me a picture about Lana of a confused, immature and (yes!) selfish person! She always poses like she is the provider for the family (and the money is hers). But what family may I ask? Wife Barry? Weirdo sister Chuck or frozen in project Charly?! Lana is manipulative because she's insecure and she needs this people around her but when her mood changes she goes on with her projects and forgets about them. They seem like accessories to her fucked up movie life! Barry is forgotten, without money, without a career, he basically wasted 3 years from his life on a manipulative and selfish person.
  3. Well I know little about Barry but this guy made his biggest mistake by getting together with Lana and especially moving with her in LA. He left his band and career behind for becoming practically Lana's wife? I don't think that he has an income, I don't know what is he doing with his music. From little that I heard from him he is quite talented. He needs to forget Lana quickly and get on his feet because that TMZ video wasn't a pretty sight. Go back Barry to Glasgow, let her fuck around with any cute boy that she meets and forget her messy ass.

  5. You have to listen to the review NPRmusic http://www.npr.org/2014/06/26/325808716/lana-del-reys-ultraviolence-has-a-firm-grasp-on-pop-history?ft=1&f=13
  6. Lana in a recent interview http://www.aftonbladet.se/nojesbladet/musik/rockbjornen/article19123254.ab "Your life is always turned into headlines Like the recent rumours about your recent relationship. It was said you had broken up, but now I heard that your boyfriend Barrien-James O'Neill told TMZ that it's complete bullshit. – I mean… I… I didn't use to talk publicly about my relationships. Because things change all the time. But after not seeing him for several months and people still asking me about him I just said no we're not together right now. And when he got to Los Angeles today and he ran into TMZ I don't think he knew what to say. Sometimes it's not real until you're faced with a camera and somebody asking you." (Ouch)
  7. Now that would be something Sources say Lana Del Rey left Barrie-James O'Neill for Italian photographer Francesco Carrrozzini http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/confidential/lany-del-rey-clicking-photographer-article-1.1844247
  8. This is the only explanation for the uncontrolled and incoherent messages that she utters constantly through her interviews that muddies her image forever. I don't know if she was like that before fame but certainly the constant bullying in the past two years aggravated whatever problems she had mentally. I believe she's smart and spiritual but she's unbalanced emotionally and that will not change with Lana Del Rey but I hope that Lizzy Grant will find some peace in the future
  9. Well deserved . I feared Sam Smith because he clearly went with his label for that US no.1 spot. Ed Sheeran it's coming next week so this will be a only 1 week reign at the top, but this was really important for her perception in the US, more than the MC score. I think that the first week sales reflects her strong fan base (where is that fanbase in the UK (48k) and Germany (no.3) tho?), but it's premature to make overall prediction about the success of UV because she has practically no promo, I expect a slow but constant sale towards platinum as BTD did. btw BTD is back in top 30
  10. This is an idiotic review, he is just confused, contradicting himself. 5/10 - unfortunately will count to MC. http://www.undertheradarmag.com/reviews/ultraviolence/
  11. No, this would fared better as an Paradise criticism, 70% of UV doesn't fit the presumption of the article that she just recycles some done before imagery. For example in BB is more important the personal narrative, which was understood by a few critics, than the 70's imagery which are a sort of coating for the song.
  12. At least they gave a better score for an obviously better album not like the lame british reviewers
  13. I usually don't respond to other people's personal opinions but to call Ultraviolence a "guilty pleasure" is just lame. Between "masterpiece" and "guilty pleasure" it's a big space where you can find great albums and good albums etc. Ultraviolence it's a great album and Lana's voice and her power to convey emotion makes her one of the best. You don't have to hide your love for her music anymore because that is more an unwarranted snobbery after Ultraviolence I cannot get over her interpretation of The other women >>>> than anything
  14. Lazy bitch. She's starting to lose to that Sam Smith guy in the US. The boy is promoting like hell and he is no.1 on US itunes. Her no.1 debut on BB200 is in serious doubt now.
  15. Interesting, especially given the source GAWKER http://gawker.com/lana-del-rey-thats-no-way-for-a-pop-star-to-behave-1592795627
  16. I don't know if it counts anywhere but it's a fairly good promo http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/victoria-sadler/lana-del-reys-ultraviolen_b_5509458.html?utm_hp_ref=uk-entertainment&ir=UK+Entertainment
  17. Well seeing her strolling in NY yesterday, I don't know, I'm just less inclined to believe the sickness story. She's either in an depression roller coaster or she's just apprehensive to do live appearances again. I hope that she takes seriously Glastonbury because she lost some adoration in the UK and bombing a major festival is even worse than SNL. I'm anxious a little bit about Glastonbury because I have a feeling that in that huge crowd just 50% (or less) will be die hard Lana fans.
  18. Her interpretation of "The other woman" it's magical, so emotional
  19. This is a mediocre article twisting facts with some inaccuracies, revels nothing worth the reading. It's a negatively biased article regurgitating most of the authenticity BS written about her. She was born in a millionaire family? I'm not even sure that papa Grant has today millions of $ in his account. He has a portfolio of domain names (that maybe worth million of $) but this business was a financial burden for the family for most of the time. Why was a bad thing that she bought back the rights for an album that was shelved for three years? Why are people thinking that she tried to hide anything? She "appropriated latino culture" LEL! that is some "deep" Jezebel level of criticism (I don't care about Tropico it was a misguided and poorly executed project btw). She's controversial because she has commercial success and she doesn't sing the same BS as the Top 40 pop stars and she has more appeal with her music and her looks than most of the indie wannabes. She's envied from everywhere and that's the real source of her controversy. And suggesting that the (unprepared and lazy = bad) SNL performance was what fueled her sales because "there is no bad publicity" it just lacks logic. BTD has sold well because it's a good album, and has sold well in places where nobody gave a shit about SNL or the authenticity debate (Europe). Nobody would buy an album just for the sake of controversy in the Spotify era
  20. The problem is that she's not berated for her lyrics that are sometimes clumsy (fckin Chevy Malibu) and repetitive, the problem is that her lyrics are not analyzed by the critics who are dismissing her work. They are prejudiced about her and they don't open themselves towards her "message". I read a few reviews that analyses her lyrics in depth. But that said I wouldn't qualify Lana as a great lyricist, but she can convey emotion and that is the most important thing in music
  21. No, the lyrics aren't incredible by any measure, but they are better than BTD in my opinion. The lyrics fits well with the music in UV (with some obvious missteps) and that's the only important thing in pop/rock music. I don't expect philosophical depths from non-classical musicians. It always bores me when some indie "connoisseur" derides other (pop) artists lyrics because their faves are probably just incrementally better or not at all (or maybe worse). Without the music, Jim Morrison's poetry it's mostly incoherent imagery and a collage of emotional cuts. So it's no need to invest to much energy in over-analyzing the lyrics in my view, music is more emotion than rationalization. What is the point of some very good political discourse if it not elicits any emotion through the music. There are some artists that can merge a real message with emotion like J. Cash but most of the musicians with an "real message" are boring. Lana induces emotions and that is enough for me
  22. My God...Lana elicits some writing...I'm dizzy http://www.tinymixtapes.com/features/mimicking-me-is-a-fucking-bore "She sings from a Twilight Zone of political irresponsibility, in which the singer’s self-obsession forces our gaze toward the possibility of our complicity in this broken present we pretend to know we can’t escape." I mean, I love Lana, but I would not waste my time writing this pretentious BS about her songs. I love her voice, her melodies, sometimes I retain some of her lyrics I like. But come on, these people are more crazier than Lana! Get a fckin grip
  23. It doesn't count on MC but is bad-ass http://www.esquire.com/blogs/culture/lana-del-rey-feminist??src=rss
