I agree; it isn't surprising at all but she does seem to have ramped it up. As I said on another thread - Lana has been friends with Courtney Love for years, and Courtney is a fame whore and always has been. Courtney would absolutely be an Instagram baddie if she was 20 years younger. Years ago, when I first saw Lana out with Courtney, I remember thinking, "oh no ...". You can tell a lot about a person by the company that they keep. Musically, I love them both, but yeah. Lana's baddie friends just seem like they're trying so fucking hard ... everything is over-filtered, they post trite quotes to try and give themselves an element of depth, etc. Yawn. Honestly, I wouldn't care if I thought it wouldn't affect her music, but I do not see how hanging around superficial people is conducive to making good music.

Again, I think it's because from Lana's perspective, it's different. I'm honestly not up on all the Instagram baddie criteria; I just went by Lana's NY post. However, to me: those friends of hers epitomised Instagram baddie-ness, even before Lana announced she was going to be one. So I kinda read her NY post and went, "isn't this already happening?" But maybe Lana thinks she's only being an Instagram baddie when she dresses in lycra and sips matcha drinks, and that if she and her friends are not actively trying to be baddies at any one time, that it's just normal behaviour. She doesn't realise that to other, normal people, they look like Instagram baddies all of the time. I don't even know if that makes sense. Maybe I am on crack. She just, you know, came up to me and started talking to me about crack.

Re: the IG baddies part of your post: for that to be true, it would have to mean that Lana is either using those Mean Girls for that purpose, and/or ALL of them are pretending and none of them are actually like that. Between one of them being tight with the Kartrashians, and another pretentiously unboxing a framed print of a box of matches on IG, I don't buy that they're not actually like that. And I don't think Lana would go so far as to befriend people as part of some experimental scheme. That'd be downright horrible, and while sis obviously has some issues I don't think she's a sociopath.

But "basic" is the image she's trying to promote, clearly, with all this Instagram baddie shit. It's superficial by its very nature, and she consciously chose it. It's impossible to tell how much of it is real/feigned, but it's definitely tired af. And as I've said before, she can befriend whoever she wants but clearly that is not a down-to-earth group. I mean, that one on IG unboxing a framed print ... of matches ... I suppose I'm just not high brow enough to get it but if my friend had a framed print of a box of matches I'd roast them to no end. They actively promote themselves as pretentious af, at least on social media, and they deserve to be dragged imo.

If a non-album-releasing male artist that I liked posted "Real Househusbands of West Hollywood" I'd be just as bitter, tyvm.

I think the music video for WM makes the song seem worse. I actually rarely watch music videos, at least until I've listened to the song 1000 times and cemented the mental imagery for it in my mind because otherwise it ruins that imagery. I literally just watched the WM video for the first time ever and OH MY FUCKING GOD WHAT THE FUCK? Also there's no way WM is worse than BPBP. Stevie is a magical goddess but that track sucks worse than a hooker with a hare lip.

Seriously, what the fuck is she doing? Did she used to go to church (as in, another one) or is this a whole new thing? Like I'm just wondering if someone convinced her to change to this one from another, or if she just started going to church and picked the worst one possible. Yeah this is a good point. Her new friends don't really fit with the theory. Then again, they seem elitist to us - but maybe fame has blinded Lana so much that, to her, they are normal. Like, maybe Lana considers them "normal" because they're not actors/musicians. Lana always seems dressed down in comparison to them, though. It's strange.

I didn't take much notice of the Kim Gordon comments. She made a couple of valid points (like, I agree about what she said about feminism, but I also think Lana's reluctance to engage in feminist discussion in any meangingful way has to do with a relationship with Weinstein - separate topic). Musicians tend to say some really stupid shit as they get older ... maybe because they lose touch with the younger generation, maybe because they want to stay relevant, maybe because they want to do the "our generation of music was so much better" thing. Like, I love Shirley Manson but she posted the other day about how it was creepy for adults to like Billie Eilish which was WTF. I don't think Lana has changed up her image because of Kim Gordon or anyone else. I think she just went, "fuck it" ... as I said, putting on a facade - and one which takes a lot of effort/maintenance, at that - for 8 + years must've been exhausting.
