honestly, when Lana said that NFR was gonna be a lil Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, surf rock, etc etc - I thought she was gonna dive into like a Californication stoner rock persona, which i would have lived for.   But no, it's nothing but church, matcha, and Easter egg hunts with her mom friends.

But some people, the world over, do not like gay men and women solely on the basis of their sexuality. Just as some straight and gay people do not like heterosexual individuals who are into S&M or partner-swapping. Or just as some gay men and women dislike heterosexuals and call them 'breeders' or become 'separatists,' and try to live the separatist lifestyle as fully as possible--away from everything they deem 'heterosexual.'

 

Some gay individuals don't like polyamorist trios or foursomes, or, to turn to another sort of issue, think first cousins marrying and having children should be unlawful and disgusting. 

 

So my point is there are people who think, believe and feel differently from all of us on a million points, small and large, and the more one realizes that, and stops reacting with pure emotion, the more mature and reasonably tolerant one becomes. 

 

So if someone--anyone--is actually violating the civil, legal and human rights of another individual, that's wrong and should be stopped.

 

But a mosque saying, "Christians are free to enter and observe, but not actively worship and participate in our rites, and that includes gay men and women," is not violating anyone's rights. It's a private religious organization with centuries-old rules that define it. A Christian cannot enter and demand to be treated equally in every way like a Muslim adherent, just as a Christian cannot expect to turn up at a synagogue and be married there. If they do and they are denied marriage by the rabbi, are their civil, legal and human rights being violated? No.

 

If Hillsong is saying, "No gay or lesbian person may enter any of our walls at any time under any circumstances, we believe they are an abomination in God's eyes and if they are discovered within our walls, we will forcibly throw them out. And in the meanwhile we will fight to overturn every law that supports LGBTQ rights the nation over," then that's wrong and should be contested and brought to the media's attention.

 

But are they saying that?   

Hillsong promotes a conversion therapy program while conversion therapy is not backed by any scientific premise and statistically, leads to higher rates of suicide for gay kids and young adults.  They do not allow LGBT folk in leadership positions, as a rule.  Meanwhile, the Bible says that gays should be put to death.  The actual history is that the Church invaded indigenous land, stripping property and power from independent women and what are now known as LGBTs, and started colonizing, infiltrating government, and operating tax free on a moral code that explicitly promotes genocide, slavery, misogyny, death to gays/witches/indigenous people, the inherent evil nature of everyone and you, blood sacrifice, torture, cannibalism, and the fucking apocalypse where most people will die horribly.  LGBT folk are more likely to experience poverty, homelessness, unemployment, incarceration, violent attack, or murder than the general population.  LGBT people have been deemed crazy and told that God condemns them BY the church.  LGBT spaces have been invaded and people have been arrested for centuries, and that's just now changing.  Putting that on the same level as some people not being into BDSM is reductive, stupid, and dismissive of reality.  You're ignorant and prejudiced trying to act wise.

My entire point above was this exactly.  She, LDR, queen of the gayz, is going to a church commonly known to be homophobic (supports conversion therapy and explicitly doesnt allow gays in leadership positions) - and has provided no context or info for her opinion on the whole thing.  Does she have to? absolutely not, she can do whatever she wants.  Is silence about gay issues a historically very common and easy way to ignore LGBTs and perpetuate homophobia?  Yes.  The silence is what enables the violence.  Lana doesnt have to be outspoken or make any sort of statement (she cant even comment on if NFR exists, apparently), but until she does, in my eyes, she doesn't give a fuck about gay people or gay lives who have incidentally made her famous.

and i know some people on here wish she jsut wouldnt say anything, and i half agree, because i think i already know intuitively where she actually stands.  i'm not declaring Lana to be this or that as a fact.  but i'm saying, i thought she was something that she doesn't appear to be.  does it matter? no. this is a LDR fan site.  is it okay for people to have varying perspectives and share them?  yes.  is it okay for people to comment on others' perspectives?  yes.  this is not about hate or whatever.  it's a discussion.  ultimately, for me, i was only here in hopes that NFR would leak and yall would be the first to know.  then i got dragged into the drama and discussion about these topics bc i think it's interesting.

Few, if any, would ever make such a claim if the genders were reversed, or if both the critic and reviewer were both male or both female, or otherwise self-identified in the same way.  

 

Not liking or supporting something doesn't, generally speaking, equate to hate. If I don't like a film or song, and say so, it doesn't mean I am demanding all copies of it be burned. If I've had a bad experience with a short person and foolishly decide that, in my personal life, I no longer like people I deem to be "short," that's my right, as long as I do not violate their civil and legal rights by denying them housing, a job, attendance to a school or college, or whatever. If someone here isn't attracted to people with red hair or blond hair and decides never to date such a person, they are not violating the rights of people with red or blond hair. 

 

Many here express all kinds of hate on a variety of subjects and topics on a weekly basis, but don't seem to see the irony in that. 

 

For better or worse, the federal and state systems define, over the course of time, what is and what is not discrimination. We see cases concerning that going to the Supreme Court a lot lately. Not every 'dislike' is a matter of human rights being violated, and it cheapens all the cases were human rights are violated to constantly, continually accuse others of violating others' rights. If you don't like me, even on the limited basis in which you know me, you are not violating my human rights by doing so or saying so. If I am banned here because I have broken the rules again and again, the administrators are not violating my human rights. 

 

Similarly, not every dislike or indifference amounts to a 'phobia.' If I decide I or anyone else doesn't want to date people with red hair, it doesn't make me or them 'gingerphobic.' The genuine meaning of 'phobic,' as opposed to the new slang version, is a very serious, uncontrollable, deep-seated fear and revulsion for something, whether it's insects, heights, whales or tall men with small feet. That's a big difference from casually disliking something. 

 

Because people think differently from you on any topic doesn't not make them 'haters.' 

 

We get no where as a society or as individuals if everything comes down to--if you and I come down to--"I hate you because you think MAC is better than VB and 'Hope.'

I agree with all these points made, just adding in my two cents. I can understand why some of you are upset at Lana attending these churches, but I do think as we don't know exactly why she is attending, we can't jump to conclusions. Lana may not know the anti-LGBTQ views of the churches she attends (which is no excuse as she should look into it more) but if this is the case, it would show Lana is unlikely to be homophobic. It also makes sense to me that she is attending another event in these churches, which may not necessarily be religious (again, she should do some research into what venue she is attending and how this may affect her fanbase). She could be lost in life at the moment, and is simply following her friends to be part of a group - this is still naive and no excuse, but again it shows that she is not necessarily homophobic and may be unaware of the anti-LBGTQ views of these churches. If Lana was truly homophobic, I don't think she would spend so much time meeting fans during concerts and outside concerts (I am not trying to go down the route or 'she associates with LGBTQ groups so therefore she can't be homophobic', instead I am just saying I don't think she would put as much effort in to meet fans if she was homophobic, and I don't think she would have dedicated 'Love' to her fans, knowing we are largely LGBTQ, either).

 

The main point I am trying to make here, is that loads of things could be going on, which does not mean Lana is homophobic. Yeah, it could definitely mean she is naive, but not homophobic.  

if the Love was really dedicated to her fans (including LGBTQs), maybe there'd be the tiniest ounce of gay shit in the video, but there's not.  Just a massive dose of basic straight white couples smiling vaguely at each other and taking cues from Lana like they all know that really people are supposed to be straight, and that straight love is genuinely the only kind that matters or is significant, and they'll all be going to the church barbeque once they get off the moon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

She's minding her own business though, she's never spoke about the church or said people should go or how great it is(we wouldn't even know unless people werent there taking photos).
