*BROKEN* ORIGINAL Random Lana Discussion
Thunder Revenant replied to COLACNT's topic in New Releases
There is always less fighting than indignation about "fights" -
I doubt that there was much thought put into that one, it just flew smoothly that way and was not intentionally crafted to leave anyone out. it's just another way of her phrasing her worries about "the now" and the future
-
Well, imo the new lyrics are meaningless and feel extremely forced, as if she wanted to change them for the sake of it. The original, bitter break-up version was much more authentic cause you felt that she really meant what she sings. And that would have fit the narrative of NFR much better than this weird "yaaay topangaaaa letz get naked" chorus that is not connected to the rest of the lyrics at all.

I really want to hear another song from this project to decide whether it wil be a return to former quality or just another L+F
-
I don't even really get why she insisted on changing the lyrics. The song would have fit NFRs much better with the "bitter" version aka her leaving the narcissist musician. The worst thing was how absolutely random the new chorus was, as if it was written by a LDR-lyrics-generator-KI. I mean ... "Topangas haaawt tonite, I just wanna partay with uuuuu, I'm taking off mah bathing suit" is really just bad. I think that she tends to fuck up when trying to change a song becuase of reasons ot actually relate to the music but because of overthinking ("I'm not in this place anymore"). Same thing happened when she desperately tried to merge BP into a duet with Spongebob Nicks.

Ok but now that's just actively trying to find something to be upset about.

I mean, I'm just as much a fan of Lanas music as everyone here, but "her personal stories" boil down to a lot of bad-romance-klischees, which - while enjoyable - are not really that unique or "autobiographic" as she's always made them out to be (at least up until NFR) -

Kat Edmonsons debut album was essentially a cover allbum but if you don't know you would not notice. Y'all are so stuck within your "bUt cOvErS aRe NoT hEr OwN sOnGs"-neurosis it hurts. -
She literally posted a pic of Summertime with the caption "Standard crew". Don't make things more complicated than they are

God, sometimes I have nothing but contempt for her, but the truth is that I'm only mad because I love her art so much. I was so excited for this project, would have fit the christmassy vibe so well. But yeah, we all know that she can't be trusted. -

Out of all songs to criticize you chose FORGET? It has pretty "OG Marina" lyrics and is definitly one of the least bland songs on Froot but ... go off I guess

Ok, but it's not "their" culture. I mean, most of these classic songs are covered around all sorts of countries again and again so it's not like knowing them is something Musica-exclusive. I'm from Germany, I dont have an above-average interest for Americana-culture, but I know these songs and their legacy anyway. Not knowing about the book is one thing, but assuming that she'll do Britney Spears and Black Eyed Peas is just ... not it, and it's not connected to any (US-)American-specific knowledge.
