Blue Banisters - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
sjatib replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
It's its confessional, pretention-deprived nature what does it for me I think. Not that I dislike her more ominous sounding albums (all the opposite), yet this one record is just Lana talking from the deepest place and music being just a channel. I mean, there's definitely a beautiful, defined aesthethic behind it, but it doesnt overshadow the strong narrative but strengthens it. And both the sound and the stories are fully developed and work on their own and as a whole, something that was heavily missing from the praised NFR, IMO. About OB, I find it to be maybe her most relevant album as it showcases in one way or another her whole artistic proposal. I mean, it works somehow as a Lana retrospective exposition while adding some interesting new features as well. I definitely find it to be a bit overbloated though, with too many songs and some of them that don't happen to add a lot. It was my most listened to album last year though, so I think the balance is positive in the end. -

Still my personal favourite record from Lana. And that's a lot to say. Maybe the most authentic portrayal of what life's about for her and for everyone in some way: being courageous enough to live wholly; confronting the trauma that comes as well with it; being honest enough to search the ways to heal afterwards. Happy birthday, Blue Banisters. You are such an artistic treasure. -
This is incredible. I actually think that I would be so intimidated I wouldn't even talk in that situation, haha. Would just eat as as fast as possible to be able to leave quickly and not make her feel uncomfortable. Please, do exactly the opposite and enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity to its fullest <3

Glad she loves it, but, ye... Zero celebration for any of her other (far better, IMO) records.

Reading, ENG @ Reading & Leeds Festival - August 24th, 2024

Its literally one of her best. Painfully beautiful, melancholic and genuine as it gets. Nikki's rough voice against Lana's softness makes it just unique as well.
-
If it makes you feel better, I dont think that an hologram+the album voice track counts as it being there either :/

I was thinking about the times when she did full, energic performance of songs like West Coast, Music to Watch Boys To, Off to the races and so on. Not risky choices, yet fully performed, within a varied setlist. I truly can't with the shortened songs, which happen to be half the setlist. Like, I'm a huge fan of Lana, but I don't think I'd pay to see rushed versions of songs (not by any artist).
-
Absolutely agree. I dont know which are the reasons for the lack if dynamism on her setlist, but it's a huge letdown that, having an absolutely brilliant, wide catalogue to perform, she's stuck in such a worn off setlist for already so long.

Not Lasso related, but: has this been discussed yet? https://www.instagram.com/p/C-UABEYuxEJ/?igsh=eTUxaWQxZ2hvbjc4

Grammy Awards 2024 - Lana Del Rey Nominated for 5 Awards
sjatib replied to Elle's topic in Awards & Nominations
"There is no place for such bias" like, ye, for sure, Mr CEO. Every damn year the same commercial faces leave that gala with their hands full of awards no matter how artistically mediocre their output may be, but, ye, come and have the courage to say there's no place for bias there. -

Maybe its because they're renting them. I've seen that at festivals, not the prohibition of bringing your own though.
