I even get the sense that the Daddy/little girl dynamic is exaggerated to a large degree. Her relationship with Barrie seemed to be equal (I think she was giving him a great deal of emotional support too) as does the one with Francesco. The dominance of her relationship with the record executive probably stemmed from the fact that he had a great deal of music, business, and life experience, whereas Lana was still young and had a lot to learn. Lana has said that she felt mature beyond her years and was seeking people she felt were equals at the time, which is in strong opposition to women who seek relationships with older men because they feel themselves to be undeveloped or are seeking guidance.

I also think a lot of the submissiveness people attribute to Lana comes from the fact that she is a hopeless romantic who obsesses over love (both current and lost) and is willing to sacrifice a great deal for the men she loves. A lot of columnists and the like have also referred to this behavior as 'masochistic', particularly when discussing Video Games, which is rather ridiculous, given that the song's lyrics reflect Lana's satisfaction with the harmony of her relationship, something an emotional masochist would not be able to experience. I think this mentality stems from the idea that modern, enlightened women are not supposed to enjoy 'oppressive' things like submission and devotion, therefore it must be pathological masochism leading to such tendencies. Also, there is a modern tendency to treat art as a kind of inspiration board where people focus on the things that drive them and make them happy, rather than an outlet of mostly afflictive feelings that they struggle with, which is why many assume that Lana is drawn to, and idealizes the scenarios she sings about.
Of course in bed It's obvious Lana is a total freak though

Honestly, she just has go-to words and phrases that include talking about how beautiful something/someone is, and also how blue something/someone is.
I pray for the day she writes something about " You're so dark dark blue boy but I'm red like fire, like my red party dress on fire baby we're on fiiiiire"
because then maybe that dress will actually be metaphorically burned and unusable.

Where are everyone getting these Kill Kill teas? I think it might be like Oh Say Can You See at best, if we're making AKA comparisons. Video Games or Ultraviolence if we're actually talking about realistic comparisons.

I really think a lot of it is from that one teacher (and maybe the record exec guy? who knows about that story anyway) + Lolita. Especially with the "younger other woman" persona that comes up so often. Like you said, she probably likes the dynamic, but it can play out in a lot of ways beyond age, like submissive role playing, "care taking", etc.

It's one of those things that, like many others, her fans take way too literally.

"JK, it's about our friend Lizzy who is a friend of Carly's. She's been looking for an apartment for about three years and her parents are starting to get worried. So we wrote a song for her parents."

Barrie made her miserable. Co-dependent and mentally unhealthy, so no. Beyond that, why should I care? She says she keeps writing songs about the same guy (or 2) so the music probably wouldn't change either way

I assume Black Beauty is about Barrie though. I love that song, and it parallels with my own miseries, so thanks Barrie. I like her songs about Whiskey too. I like whiskey. Probably not as much as she liked whiskey.

Diet Mountain Dew should have just kept the lyrics of the demo version

BTD is her most lyrically ambitious work, as much as people retroactively shit on it. AKA worked because it had the charm of being simple and honest, both in terms of lyrics and production. UV's biggest problem imo was that the lyrics didn't mesh well with the sound in a lot of places. Sad Girl had great verses, and it sounded really great and jazzy during them. Then that chorus. What? PWYC had the same problem, but with a better bridge than Sad Girl. I love Ultraviolence (the song) but it was kind of sloppy altogether, lyrically.

I would really prefer a studio version of that Why Don't You Do Right cover from the tour. I've worshiped that song since forever   (and Lana preforming it in Jessica Rabbit attire would excuse all red dress related cringing  )

I feel so bad for Barrie after that interview and then he posted a video on fb and he was sorry for leaving the band and he was a mess. That was embarrassing and sad

not too much though - i will probably cry if honeymoon's lyrical content is basically life being beautiful when her occasionally abusive sugar daddy takes her body downtown in the pale moonlight on Château Marmont while shes in her red party dress and high heels and feeling fucking crazy

You mean the chorus might actually consist of more then just her moaning the name of the song 4 times?
