This topic needs to be updated with this :
I havent decided yet but my top would look something like this :
1 - COCC - HMV cover
... all her other albums
99 - COCC - Main cover
-
-
It's absoloutly stunning, mesmerizing.
Lana had us believe it was her worst visual era with the album's cover and drops this (plus the HMW album cover).
Werewolf Lana is even better than the canceled witch era. Even with the teaser spoiling it I was still surprised of how it was treated.

I did it for love
I did it for fun

I did it for fame
and my mind went straighttt to what we've heard of Yosemite's lyrics hahah
The perfect sister track to both BAR and Yosemite. Maybe those songs are about a secret relationship with Kevin Parker, not Barrie
I hope we can soon move this song to the COCC lyrics folder.

I've got a new theory about the rewriting of the song.
I never really understood how BAR and Yosemite could be sister tracks with the BAR demo and the few lyrics we have from Yosemite. But now that I compare the new BAR lyrics with Yosemite it makes much more sense. They both talk about doing things together and enjoying it. Maybe Lana rewrote BAR for LFL not for NFR! She wrote Yosemite almost as a fantasy of how she wanted to see things. Maybe it helped her view her relationship differently and decided to rewrite BAR as a sister track.
After all, she said she rewrote BAR for the album. Maybe she ment LFL not NFR!. I mean she rewrote Beautiful People for the more positive theme of LFL, why not do the same for BAR ?
SpoilerPossible timeline :
- She writes the first version of BAR
- She shoots the BAR video (the shots she reused for White mustang seem to fit those original lyrics)
- She writes Yosemite and Rewrite BAR making the video unusable because it doesn't fit the lyrics anymore
- She scrap both songs because it doesn't work for her anymore
- She uses the second version of BAR for NFR! Because it fits the themeSpoilerWe were so obsessed with writing the next best American record
'Cause we were just that goodWe did it for fun, we did it for free, I did it for you, you did it for me, we did it for the right reasons
Or maybe I'm just wrong and they were supposed to be perfect opposites. BAR being how she thought things actually were, and Yosemite was the fantasy of how she wanted things to be. -
Thanks a lot for those infos. It's the kind of things I like to read about. As a producer myself I would have been interested to see those videos but that was too expensive honestly.

So cold you're hurting my feelings is so fun. I hope she will keep the key change for future performances of the original song.
Have you guys heard this cover ? :
I think it works even better than Breathless. It slays the original witch was great.
Some small hope is great too.
She should have released a cover album for Xmas with all the reinvention she did for her shows
Oh and those piano versions are so beautiful :
It really shows that the songs a really good. It works even without the superb production. The songwriting and Caroline's vocals are enough.

Thanks a lot for this great idea. I participated but after reading Mer's post I realized it was only to win a vinyl. Although I would enjoy the big size visual, I wouldn't be able to play it, so I prefer to cancel my participation and let it be won by someone who would make the best benefit of it.
My guess is 14, btw.

Those were originally the covers that she was gonna release the album with but her friends didn't like them because they were not done by her so she felt pressured to do the ones that ended up being released or something like that.
Yes, here is the post

Actually, I think it works a lot when the orchestral version from the same soundtrack is played as an intro (I just have them back to back on a playlist).
It feels like there's a momentum when the piano starts just before Lana starts singing and it makes perfect sense to have only the vocals before the orchestra comes back. It works a lot better than with Lana's version alone.

Has anyone seen the show ? Did she only perform or did she have a chance to talk ?
No mention of COCC by Lana or Fallon himself ?

What a surprise. From the first notes with the background singers I knew I would love it. It immediately gave me Thunder vibes. I think they are so complementary with her voice. Maybe part of the cover album is some of the covers she did with the Last Shadow Puppets during that period.
The higher register of her voice fits the Jazz aesthetics so much better than the her more somber one (wich I absolutely love on her songs, but I love the change for that projet). She seems to be willing to explore her range more on her recent covers. I wonder if this will show on COCC or if she only allows to get outside of her aesthetics because it's covers.
The musiciens, the production, everything is on point. I would love to see more of that on COCC.I also love how this video is really carefree and she doesn't seem to take herself seriously (I mean with Chuck playing a fake instrument). She really seems happy. More than she've ever been. She looks great.
I love how she's covering the original song that inspired the other cover she did (that's probably the reason why she calls it the Gershing version). It's suits Lana's self referential lyrics habits. Maybe she could do a mashup on next tour.

Sounds great !
It would have been perfect for the album. The blade runner sound distilled with the pop one make it still fit for the album yet being a bit more original.

I guess not. Let me love you like a woman is a piano ballad but still the guitar arrangements sound a bit country. Plus I remember her saying the album become country without her and Jack planning it. I migh be wrong tough.
I hope she'll includes Hey Baby Blue if so. I'm not a fan of country but what I hear so far doesn't worry me. Plus it's always nice that Lana experiment with a new sound.
Plus this song sounds really nice. I love how they harmonise. They sound great together. Zella's recent music is great so I love it. I like Lana duets when it's not with the Weeknd and she has enough lines.
About her "thanks for letting me have it" :
Maybe they wrote the song together for Zella's album and it's either going to be on both or going to be on COCC only.

Never thought I could say that one day
How the leakers feed us better for cocctober than Lana.
It's the first time I listen to a new Lana single only once before listening to 2 dozen other tracks (I discovered it just at the same time as 14 new demos and the 18 paradise tour reworks).
From first listen I think it's a great song but definitely not one that gets me more exited for the album. It doesn't have an interesting song structure and lyrics or surprising new sound, or single-worth catchyness like respectly Mariner Appartment Complex, West Coast and Love did.
I need more listen tough because I think the harmonies and the way that it isn't as linear as it seems shows great potential.

I think she's very talented.
I absolutely adore Wounded Rhymes and the Mark Roson collab. I think most of her other work has some great strength and as well as weaknesses.
My ranking :
1. Wounded Rhymes
I think it's an album that sounds really unique yet cohesive and accessible. I think she found her best balance here between Youth Novels' very pop and very experimental sound and breathy vocals, and I Never Learn's overdramatic sound and vocals.
2. I Never Learn
I think that album is really emotional. I love it but I've got to be in the mood for it (sometimes the overdramatic sound, lyrics and vocals are too much for me. And that's coming from a Lana Del Rey fan.). My favorite track is Gunshot, it really strikes a chord. And I love how the music video was like a fuck you to the Peugeot commercial it was used for.
3. Liv
I don't know what happened to that super band she formed with Andrew Wyatt and friends. I liked the indie sound and seemingly more careless creating process. They released no album and they didn't even bother collecting the 4 singles as an EP but in my mind it is some kind of Likke Li EP and Era.
4. So Sad Sexy
I think that the sound worked a lot for some songs like the sophisticated Hard Rain that was really surprising and the emotional So Sad So Sexy . It gets tiring for more uninteresting songs like Jaguar in the air.
I think the tracklist and the album title sounds very Lana-ish. I mean So Sad So Sexy. It reminds me of seing the tracklist for Ultraviolence for the first time and thinking it was fake. Did anyone else get that feeling ?
5. Youth Novels
This album was a real surprise when it got released. I think she struck me as a very unique pop artist. I think it gets complicated to listen to the whole album at once. Dance, Dance Dance is one of my favorite songs to sing along to and to dance to. It's so simple yet effective. And I love the fragility and childlike quality of her vocals here.
I need more listen to that new song to have a proper opinion.

The Sad Say video is amazing. As a lot of you said, we actually hear more of Mirrored heart but it's OK, it's a real peace of art.
I hardly imagine it being played on TV to promote the album tough, as we don't hear much of the song.
She definitely has the skills to act on some sci-fi/action movie. Would love to have her on some of the Wachowski sisters movies. What about Matrix 4 ?
As for the Mixtape turned into a Beast of an the album... CAN'T WAIT.

Her facebook post : Lana promoting honeymoon while we're waiting for a confirmation for COCC.
Please give us cocc Lana !

Tesla Jesus?
I don't know which I'd hate more, a song about Elon Musk or a song about Seany
Oops Tusla Jesus Freak.
-
Telsa Jesus gives me Cinamon vibes. Maybe the album will have use more of these modern jack productions (or not!).

I love Violet. I need to listen to it more to give a real review.
I love how some of the song sound more Jazzy than most Lana song that she self proclaim as jazz songs.

Too bad Annie didn't repeat her question about the sound of the album and went with the polical question instead.
