  1. This is probably me being a more forgiving fan than I should be, but I want to say a word in defence of DLMBM. I get how it's a very divisive version, but there's something about her delivery of it that continues one of my favourite things about the way she sings particular songs. In a lot of the better live versions of songs like Blue Jeans, she doesn't sound like she's singing or performing a song, she sounds like something has just come to her that moment, and she's struggling to put it into words and to keep to a melody. I can't think of any other singer I've heard who does this, and it's the polar opposite to the review of HM which talks about her being 'too cool', but there are lines in this version which are so raw and jolting, it goes beyond being a song performance (which we can expect from a singer like Adele) to something completely raw and passionate.
  2. This is authentic frontier gibberish.
  3. I'm finally listening to the CD - I was the first person to buy it where I went (they were just being taken from the back room and weren't on the shelves yet). I'm freaking out at how good the first two songs sound, when I've gotten used to them in LQ. The organ and flute in MTWBT Edit: Salvatore in HQ
  4. Yep. He's the living embodiment of the 'opinions are like assholes' cliche. Except in his case, it's more like 'faces can be like assholes'.
  5. Which would be an issue if he had any credibility whatsoever
  6. Drums on a lot of 128 encodes sound terrible - there might as well just be a guy shouting out 'crash cymbal' for all the fidelity.
  7. Well, three days out from release, and there has been absolutely zero promo of any sort - including in store - of the record in Melbourne. I know that Australia's not the biggest market in the world, but at least Ultraviolence had advertisements in music magazines, and there were displays in stores. If it wasn't for these boards, and overseas online sources (twitter, etc), I wouldn't even know there was a new record coming out. ETA: Not trying to be a downer - I'm super excited by the record. I just wonder wtf is up with the Australian label, coming off a #1 album 15 months ago.
  8. Congratulations, I hope it's a great experience Unsolicited advice:
  9. This is how I feel pretty much as well Most telling, in the original interview where she was asked about Feminism, you could tell that the interviewer wasn't treating her answer with any respect by thinking of an interesting follow up question about technology or whatever, but must have just had running through their mind "I've got the headline!"
  10. Thanks for pointing this out - I made a new thread for this article, because it deserves more attention than what it will get here. http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/6826-salon-piece-the-existential-genius-of-lana-del-rey/
  11. Salon have just posted a rare, worthwhile 'think piece' on LDR - "The existential genius of Lana Del Rey: Performing yearning self-destruction as meaningful as Don Draper’s — and just as uniquely American" Nobody here's going to learn anything from it, but it's nice that somebody's actually putting some thought into their writing about Lana. (Hat tip to @@MonsterGod for posting this in the Honeymoon thread, where a lot of people might have missed it.)
  12. Thanks - It's been a while since I re-read the OP The link's broken, unfortunately, can you remember when/where the interview is from?
  13. This is a slight change of subject, but was it ever discovered where that interview snippet where she first announced the MTWBT title came from, now that it's a genuine part of LDR history?
